Not sure if any of you that own this receiver and an iPhone have noticed, but I just thought I'd point out that with the latest iPhone OS software update, my iPhone 3GS now works with the 1018 (it never did previously for me).

Hello again,

I was wondering if anyone was successful in hooking up a digital cable box via dvi-hdmi cable to the receiver. When trying to do so I get a blue screen saying "the hd content protection has been compromised". If I use composite it works fine. Which is what im using now.

The reason I want to use dvi-hdmi, is I found when changing input to my mac mini from a hdmi source, I do not get the weird colors I was talking about in earlier posts. It seems to only happen when I change inputs from my cable (which is currently composite and using video conversion).

I have the VSX-01 Elite and plugged my iPhone in about a month ago and was pleasantly surprised too! I think the last time I tried was about a year ago. So good to get Pandora over my AVR!

I am having trouble finding which input to select when I have a device connected through component.

The receiver's hdmi out is going to my tv. I connected the component cables from the device to the various component inputs but could find out which input to select to get it to appear on the screen.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Also, how does the receiver know which sound input to use with the component connection?

For those of you with a Toshiba XA2 or A35 this could be useful. Also anyone who plans on buying titles with 2.0 DTS-HD audio. I just learned that Pioneer has a fix for the DD+ issue for thier new receivers. FW 1.041 is for the SC-25/27 and fixes the above issue and the inability of the receiver to properly decode 2 channel DTS-HD tracks. I am calling them Monday about possible firmware for our receivers. I am going to be needling Pioneer with all my might since I have waited close to 2 years for the update(DD+ fix). Pioneer needs to get off thier ass on this and they did for the newer receivers.

This is concerning the 05/07 series receivers and Pioneer customer service is extremely frustrating! Call them anyway. Your receivers have the same issues and they need to fix it. The 05 and 25 are getting the newer firmware to fix the above issues though.

Okay, concerning the fix for the DD+ hddvd audio dropouts and the low volume on DTS- HD 2.0 tracks, there is a new firmware coming out next week that fixes the above issues!

After getting extremely frustrated talking to Pioneer customer service as they are saying these are not issues with the 05/07 receivers, yet they obviously were an issue with the 25/27 due to the newer firmware that fixes them. We all know there is very little difference between the 05 and 25 and these DD+ audio dropout issue have been prevelent since the 90 series receivers. Don't tell me I don't have a problem when I can hear it with my own ears! If the Toshiba was causing the problem as Pioneer customer service claims why are the only receiver's affected from Pioneer. Not one receiver besides the Pioneer has any dropout issues. Yet the new firmware from Pioneer for the 25 fixes the Toshiba problem LOL! Their customer service reps are such jackasses that love to pull the wool over your eyes! Don't tell me the SC-25 is an entirely different receiver than the 05 like I am an idiot! There is very little difference between the chips or processing! Also when other Pioneer comsumers are claiming the same issues don't tell me it is not an issue and I am the only one experiencing the problem. Best part he told me to buy a non Pioneer bluray player to bypass the DTS-HD problem LOL?

All I asked was the problem be duplicated using the Grumpy Old Men combo disc with the BDP-05FD and SC-05. They flat out refused! Let me tell you 5 years ago this would have never been an issue! I would have gotten a call back within a few days concerning the issue replicated in California with the results. Don't expect SACD or DVD Audio, they are sticking with BD 3.0 or bluray audio as the next best thing. There should be alot of newer products at the Cedia show and finally the bluray players should be faster than the tortoise they currently are.

The device codes in the Pionner manual are alll 5 digit. My Sceptre TV/monitor (using in a home gym) is four digit. The remote won't register a 4 digit code for whatever reason. Anyone know the solution?

Consider yourselves lucky. I've had my 1018 for 18 months now and 2 weeks ago it stopped working. It would turn on, but none of the inputs would work. The click that was heard when you would change an input disappeared.

I took it to a authorized repair shop and they contacted Pioneer and Pioneer has no idea what the problem could be. They've had it for a week now and I'm pretty sure they won't be able to fix it or if they do, it will be too expensive. So, I will probably sell it on Ebay, as is. There is probably someone out there that has a good knowledge of electronics and could fix it themselves.

That being said, I will be buying the 1020 when it comes out next month.

I also agree that I would expect better customer service from Pioneer.
Does the arrival of the 1020 mean there will be a serious reduction of
pricing on the 1018?

An call me old school, but I want the phono option, and hate the fact that
D*non wants you to jump to a pretty high level for that. What level do you have to go for the Pioneers?

I took it for servicing and after 2 weeks finally got a call that they finally figured out the problem. It will only cost me $100 to fix the problem (minus the $35 to diagnose the problem). That was a lot less than I expected.

I will sell it after I pick up the 1020 in May or later.

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't know that someone had asked me a question.

Here's what they said they did.

Resoldered cracker solder on various boards. Cleaned ??? switches and complete check over.

I then brought it home and it worked for a week and then last Sunday the same problem happened again. So I took it back on Monday. I want them to keep it as long as it takes to get this problem fixed permanently.

I'm still going to buy the 1020 and sell this one.,

Chris, your perseverance amazes me.

If I had waited, and paid that amount, and it happened again. I would not stop raising their roof until Pioneer gave me a new replacement.

This reminds me of a bad experience with an Adcom amp years ago. Finally,
they replaced both the faulty amp boards in both channels. But it took more than half a year.

Good luck with your 1020!

Thankfully I bought a cheap Insignia amp a month ago as backup from Best Buy. It will do the job until the 1018 is fixed properly. The only hassle is having to take the banana plugs off the speaker wires when connecting to the Insignia.

mine the blue light only comes on once in a while it started up again the other day the light was not on and it took a while for the clicking noise to ingage.

I've had this AVR for around a year now, and there's been 2-3 Dolby based audio (Dolby stereo, Dolby Digital, and one TrueHD) audio tracks that when played with my 1018, it sounds heavily distorted/staticy. I have yet to experience this with any DTS-HD MA or LPCM track. Mind you, this is quite rare as I've played several Dolby tracks on my AVR.

Edit: Just noticed that when I switch to a stereo mode (ie: I hit the Stereo/ALC button) it sounds normal. It's when I switch to a surround mode (standard, auto, or adv surround) is when it gets distorted.

Only issues I've had are the blue light in the power button doing its own thing from time to time. I thought it was dying on me but that was just a dodgy Harold and Kumar mix AFAICT.

Well, I'm playing my BR rips on my HTPC (bitstreaming/streaming PCM with my Radeon HD 5450 via HDMI) so I have the ability to convert the audio to other formats. I converted the original problematic TrueHD audio track to lossless FLAC and muxed it back with the video and oddly enough, it plays fine. Fortunately this is rare or this would be a major PITA.

Still curious if anyone has has ran into this issue and has found a way to fix it.

I. Am. Aggravated! I just connected my iPod Touch after not updating the software for a while and was prompted top upgrade. Sure, I thought, lets see what new features Apple has to offer. I update, Sync, select my playlists, connect to my VXS-1018 and Nothing. The only playlist that shows is Ipod touch which is EMPTY. No update on Pioneer's web site.

Can anyone help?

Same here, my power light on the unit is possessed. Thankfully my cabinet hides most of it depending on where you sit, but at times it strobes so much I don't think i can invite any epileptics into my home. Honestly, I'm a bit peeved at this since I've had the unit a year or so. Pretty sure I'm out of warranty and I have no desire to pay Pioneer to fix it. I did try and contact them and they gave me an idiotic "try and reset the unit" answer like any poorly trained support center. Since that did nothing they said I have to take it to a shop for service.

I had zone 2 set up last year to power the speakers on the porch and it worked fine, this year I'm not getting any sound out of the speakers. I've checked the connections, searched the manual and these threads but can't figure out whats wrong. Any suggestions on the receiver settings?

Hello all,

So I have my Pioneer 1018 hooked to a Bose AM 16 ...5 speakers plus Sub.
I have had this setup for a couple of years now.
The other day we had a lightning strike that fried the transformer on my pole..
Noticed the other night that my Sub would not produce any bass/sound. All speakers worked fine as my Son and I watched a movie, just no bass from Sub. So today with no changes made, my speakers no longer seem to work either.
Weird thing is if I do a manual MCACC I get sound from all speakers, but still no Sub. When I try Tuner, Bluray, DVR..etc, I get no sound at all.
Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this? Just trying to figure out if its the Bose speaker system, or the receiver.
