How much clearance to allow for swivel?

I'm buying a Panisonic 50PZ800u, and it has a swivel base. I've never got to play with one because all my local stores have them hung on the wall.

How much clearance do I need at a minimum (I'm creating a custom nook in the drywall) to allow for full use of the swivel? The TV is 49.9 inches wide.

Thank you,
-Joe

go to pannys web, and see the online manual- the swivel requirements are given on page 8

Joe, here's a link to the manual, see page 8:

http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPER...TH42PZ800U.PDF

Note that this manual is for the 42-46-50 sizes, so you'll want the second set of measurements (valid for 46-50). The manual says rotation is 10 degrees forward (from midpoint) and 10 degrees back.... For the 50PZ800U I think this is about 6 inches forward and 6 inches back, at the outer edge of the screen, but someone else can probably give you a more accurate measurement....

Edit: I just did some quick math, and 10 degrees for that size screen is about 4.35 inches forward and 4.35 inches back (at the outer edge of the screen).

Also note that the base is pretty big, and it rotates with the screen (on top of a fixed lazy-susan-type sub-base that is hidden).

Thanks for the link and the advice. It looks like the nook will be deep enough, but does that mean I need 4.35 inches on either side (58.7 inch nook) to get full swivel? Based on the probably-not-to-scale drawing in the manual, it looks like it doesn't go too much further out, side to side, upon swivel. Thoughts on width?

No, the width of the TV (about 50") is the max width, maybe another 1-2" on each side would be good for air circulation and aesthetics and so you don't mash your fingers. The 4.35" is the max amount the side edge will move toward the front (ie toward your couch) from its neutral (square) midpoint.... sorry if my earlier post wasn't clear!

Perfect, thanks so much! That's what I needed. I think I'll go for an inch, more if I can get it. Cheers!
