I just discovered the fix for those using HD-SDI modified devices with Onkyo and Integra receivers and pre-amps

those that have this combo of gear were not able to get HDMI audio flowing from their HD-SDI players, the fix is rather simple

under the flip down panel on the front of the units, there is a button labeled HDMI out, just hit this until the front display says HDMI Monitor: no, it scrolls thru Main, Sub and No

now HDMI audio flows perfectly from Panasonic BD30 while using HD-SDI and any other player device that is having problems

this means the receiver/pre-amp has HDMI audio input capability but no HDMI output active so systems will have to be setup accordingly, but everything works perfect now with viewing HD-SDI on your scaler and sending HDMI audio to your Onkyo/Integra HDMI 1.3 receiver/pre-amp

thanks

IT WORKS!!!

Thanks Gary - I have tried everything to get the lossless codecs but was unsuccessful. I even hooked up some Moome boxes and an HD Fury to the Onkyos output and it wouldn't work. This has made my purchase of the Onkyo worth the price I paid!

Thanks,
Bob

I went for an HD sdi mod. Onkyo hd dvd player.
I have to thank Gary Murrell for that job he have done with this mod.
I am very happy now, because of the good picture this player gives with hd sdi..

And the best of all, there are allmost no noise in the picture enymore. No blinks at all from hdmi as I got before from my hd dvd/blu ray players to my Crystalio 2 with hdmi in to my projector and tv. Those blinks or break up`s in the picture are now history with this HD SDI Onkyo player!

And now I am waiting for an Panasonic BD50 with sone and HD SDI mod!

The next thing I hope for now are an HD SDI mod. for JVC HM-DH5U DVHS/D-Theater player...
Thanks a lot!!!

glad to hear you like HD-SDI Espen most that see it do

the BD50 is a awesome player for sure, probably my favorite blu-ray player yet, with region free and HD-SDI it is unbeatable

why expect anything less from Panasonic

Gary,
the BD50 sure sounds good with the HD SDI mod.
I had some questions:
- Is the player naturally region-free or is it modded to achieve that
- In your knowledge, can this (or any other Blu/DVD player) be modded for UOP bit
- Would I really need a processor for BluRay. I could just connect the HD SDI out to a SDI->HDMI converter and have the advantage of a cleaner signal, correct?

Thanks much,
SP

Thanks a lot Gary!!!
I have got the Panasonic BD50 sdi/sone mod. player now, and I am very pleased with it.
The sone mod. you have moded in to the player works perfect!
And the picture quality are awsome, nothing more to say about that!
Now I am looking forward to an Sdi mod for JVC DVHS/D-theater player!
What do you think about that Gary?

anybody else get a HD-SDI player?

Gary,

Are you able to mod a samsung Up5000 and a Vp30 to HD-SDI?

Got my BD50 with HD-SDI mod !

Pity this player is hard to get now, it is a very good choice for HD-SDI mods (I guess BD35 and BD55 are too but they look less sexy).
The player itself is quite cheap, which is one important criteria for HD-SDI mod (likewise DVD players), it is fast loading and fast with navigation + audio Q is very good with bitstreamed audio over HDMI.

Settings are a little tricky though, HDMI out must be set on 1080i and 1080p24 out option ON + HDMI out plugged in a compatible devise that must be ON. With that settings we get 1080i and 1080p24 out of the HD-SDI automatically which is important with 1080i contents.

I use a VPS3800 scaler, so far PQ is wonderful and is unmachted ! Video is noise free, colors seems more accurate, using sharpness filters on both the player and the scaler generates a very crips and detailed picture but not CGI look alike.
I had a Pioneer 09 (LX91 European version to be precise), that player has a native video mode that looked very close from what the BD50 HD-SDIzed looked, but the HD-SDI solution was still a little better.

Been a fan of SDI since my first video processor (CS2-SDI), galde I am back with HD-SDI !

Not planning to get my HD-DVD player HD-SDI moded nore my D-Theater as my scaler's HD-SDI inputs are both used, but if I had two extra inputs I might think about it.

My conclusion is I won't upgrade my scaler if the new units does not have HD-SDI inputs.

I will be interested in a HD-SDI mod to the new Oppo player when it comes out. It might be a good solution to the HDMI audio problem with using the Sim2 HOST box.

HD-SDI switchers are easy to come by and being we are talking 1's and 0's here the switch is 100% transparent, no BS, I have actually made them for folks before

if you need more than 2 HD-SDI inputs I am officially jealous

Yep !
Well 3 HD-SDI (BD, HD-DVD and D-Theater) and 1 SDI for DVD.
I will only get more than what I currently have only if a new scaler actually have 4 inputs and can do a proper 1080i (and 480i) to 1080p24 convertion and propose something like Crystalio's DynamicVP (which includes 480i video and 480i film condition event).

Gary, I have the Service manual and schematics for the BH 100, it has all the info you may need along with clock speeds and wave form patterns and the test points, if you want to mull over them i can send them to you.
they are in a djvu format but i can convert them to pdf if you want.

HD-SDI for D-Theater?!? How did I miss that. Gary?
Is there a approximate cost for these mods?

not at this time, something that will be looked into, Glimmie did a HD-SDI mod on his JVC 5u, which would probably be the deck that is done if it happens, but he is far from DIY, he works with HD-SDI as a engineer and as far as I know doesn't sell

Yeah, I thought so, but why are people asking you about"how is it going with the vp50pro output mod"?.
vp50pro and a hd-sdi card is nothing new, you have had it in your system for quite some time now.

Gary,

please have a look at this media player.
