Not really.
Rather big part of second 128 byte block should be also from your monitor.

Better to explain based on moninfo report http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

Thus you should make combined E-EDID
From reciever only:
CE audio data (formats supported)
CE speaker allocation data
CEC physical address
Rest should be from your TV

Hi,

I hope I dunno misunderstand you, but in my opinion the EDID is right. He only posted a shorten form. The complete form is in the attached:

@mik1984

I agree I spent alot of time trying to include the detailed timings for the HDTV in the extra block but found if you get it wrong it uses the "backup EDID" found in regedit under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Enum\\Display this is a problem the backup EDID is how it was orginaly read, in my case case this was always the the first block of EDID repeated causing the audio settings not to be found by the ATI card. I have been unable to correctly workout the checksum value using my calculator, if anyone knows how this is done let me know it would be great to include some more information in the second block of data.

for genro

I have tried to replicate what your are discribing and everything seems fine comming out of sleep is perfect. The computer screen flickers a couple of times when the reciever is first being set to the HDMI input or when turning the reciever off but my computer display has recoverd to normal state rather quickly without intervention.

Thank you very much RandomFoe. I went the lazy way and just renamed your attachment to .inf and had vista use that driver for the monitor. Even without changing your edid information everything works great on my rca tv and v863 receiver w/ the ati 3200 chipset graphics. haven't had an issue yet so until ati fixes their drivers i should be good.

Thanks again!

oh yeah, this also seemed to fix the hdcp issues i was having when watching blu ray/hd dvd's. not sure if it's related or not but...

Thanks! This solution worked for me but I had to keep the EDID the same as the way you posted it.

I tried using the MonInfo tool to get my EDID for my xbr4 and paste that into the first block, however it did not work upon reboot. I also checked the EDID on my rx-v663 and it was different from the one you posted. Is there a reason for this?

Long story short, when I pasted my own EDID according to MonInfo nothing worked. It would recognize the ATI device as plugged in but didn't transmit (receive?) sound. I used your file as is and copied / pasted into an .inf and it works great. My computer thinks it's connected to a Samsung TV but there doesn't seem to be any bad side effects.

Maybe I failed in pasting my own EDID data for the tv and/or receiver?

What I did was copy and paste the EDID data on the bottom of MonInfo and it would come out to 12,00,43,54,65, etc and I just created a macro for adding 0x in front of each to make them all 0x12,0x00,0x43,0x54 and so on. Then i just pasted the entire thing back in. Maybe I did something wrong...anyone enlighten me?

I have a Denon 1909 AVR with a Pioneer 435XDE. I tried creating my own but got same issue as blast8180 - the device says connected but nothing comes through.

I then did a cut and paste of the earlier post and it worked - all the formats showed up.

I feel like I'm very close to getting this working and being specific for my combination but looks like we're missing a final bit of info to get this working fully.

Hi All, so from what i'm reading is this DVI/HDMI issue close to an end? I have a Denon 1909 & ATI HD4670 and i couldn't get them work together no matter what (like all of you). From my understanding, what i have to do is just copy/paste/follow the steps and this is it? Thanks for this great post. Regards, Axell

Hi,

would you be so kind and tell me how you made vista use that .inf file as driver?

Thanks a lot!
Just a quick post from me, got it working just perfectly. I didn't manage to get my DVI Detective Plus working very well, couldn't get DTS or DD working via hdmi, but with this hack it's all working just as it should (and no DVI Detective needed!!!). Managed to get the info for my Panasonic plasma and Yamaha AX-763 using MonInfo and added them to the inf and it's all setup correcty now. Standard DTS/DD pass-through is fine via hdmi and lpcm also working great.

Hats off to RandomFoe. Much appreciated.

If you have a driver for any device lying around, just copy the "system information" file and paste Randomfoe's EDID info inside it. A System Information file should be a white blank page with a grey cog in the bottom left corner. Make sure you've copied it! Dont' overwrite the original.

You can't use the text file as a driver, you'll have to paste it into a blank (or in my case, a pre-existing driver setup file).
Thanks for your response!

But I can't completely follow your advice - sorry, it is my fault.
Is it possible that you upload the needed file?

Another question:
Where can I tell vista to use this driver? Because if I go to the Device Manager and press update driver, windows tells me that there is already the newest and best driver installed...

Thanks for your help and sorry my bad knowledge!
Ok, assuming you have it saved as an .inf file, this is what you do:

Open device manager, right click on the monitor (should be 'generic pnp monitor' or something like that) and chose 'update driver'

in the box that comes up, there's 2 options. the "search automatically" and "browse my computer". Click on "browse my computer"

In that window you'll get an address box and below an option to "let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer", choose the 'let me pick' option.

IN that window you'll click the 'have disk' option. Once that's opened you'll click 'browse' and then locate your inf file and hit open and then ok.

Once you have done that, in the box you should see something like MS EDID overide. choose that and click next. WIndows will install the new driver (make sure you click the 'install anyway' box when it comes up!) and you should get audio.

RandomFoe - great work, and thanks a million for posting!
I'm gald this is helping a few people, for those having problems with it post and I or someone will try to help you.

I might start a new thread where we can post edid data that we have made work with the different tv av combos to help others and make it alot easier for thers in the future.
Are EDIDs suppose to vary device from device or are they supposed to be the same for all models (given identical manufacturing components, firmware etc) ?

I had this question because the EDID for my rx-v663 was different from RandomFoe's.

As for that other person who still needed help,

I can't upload a .inf file because AVSforum doesn't allow that file type. I didn't really look as to how to create a blank .inf file in vista....

You can do this though. Start-> search bar on bottom -> type Setup Information ->search everywhere

You'll get a list of a bunch of driver .inf files, their icons will be white pages with a grey cog on the bottom left with the file type as Setup Information. Copy ANY one of them, paste it to any folder. Make sure you copied!! Then open it, it should open with a wordpad program. Delete everything, paste RandomFoe's EDID upload into it. Save and close.

Then follow the instructions on how to install it posted above.
I have started a new thread for EDID override it includes a zip of the .inf file that should make it easier.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1091403

I'm also confussed about not having the same edid for the same product.

Hi,

thanks for your help, but now i have a great problem...
I isntalled the driver and everything seemed to be ok till I turned on my Yamaha Receiver. Since this moment my Monitor always shows me an error that two frequneces are wrong...
Is it possible that in this inf file there was saved a solution? because my monitors only are able two show 1280x1024?
What can I do now? is it possible two replace the driver by the original one?

Thnaks a lot!

I've some problems to with my radeon 4550 and it's hdmi output connected to my yamaha Z7 : no sound. But when i connect it directly to my TV (sony KDS55), i get sound. I tried the EIDE override trick but doesn't work for me. I noticed that when i'am directly on TV, control center show HDMI connection but when on Z7 it shows DVI !
I duno what to do now
Is it a yamaha or ATI issue ?

I'am using windows XP SP3, i'll try with vista to see if it fix it.

Nice new receiver! Too bad you will probably need a DVI Detective to get it to work! This is ATI's fault. Complain to them! The EDID trick should work. If it doesn't you can probably find a DVI Detective for sale at a good price. I have a spare one right now.
The problem is that my radeon 4550 as 1 HDMI output and 1 DVI. I'am using the HDMI. Not sure if the sound output on DVI to. I read that some cards with 2 DVI output only output sound on 1.

And well i leave in france (wich explain my little bad english). A bit far from your DVI Detective

Maybe i did something wrong with the EDID trick. If someone can spare one wich work ? (moninfo return a to long EDID string btw so where to cut it ?)

- Attachment 125824 = TV directly on radeon 4550 HDMI out => sound OK (2 chanels) desktop resolution : 1920x1080
- Attachment 125825 = Z7 on radeon 4550 HDMI (TV off) => no sound, all grayed in control panel sound device manager. desktop resolution : 1920x1080
- Attachment 125826 = Z7 on radeon 4550 HDMI with TV on => same as Z7 alone and wrong desktop resolution : 720x576 (can't change it)

I'am using windows XP SP3

Hope you will find something

Thanks for report
It's Yamaha problem
Finally I understood that new Z7 has rather big problems as repeater.

The simplest way to force 1920x1080 resolution via driver or Powerstrip.
Please try 60i/p, 50 i/p
2 channel LPCM should be.

Or change XP to Vista and use override EDID trick
post #266 of 317
RandomFoe! This actually worked for me in Vista32. My friend's Onkyo 576 receiver is now able to fully utilize HDMI LPCM from the Radeon HD 4850 card. Nothing else we've done (or that ATI and Onkyo have suggested) has worked. Thanks for your hard work!

I do still have some strange issues:

The setup that I was using is the stated Onkyo 576 receiver, Asus Radeon 4850, Vista32 Ultimate w/SP1 and an Optoma EP719 projector. I tried just upgrading the generic monitor driver with your provided file. This resulted in a shock of actual full blown LPCM over HCMI after Windows rebooted! The bad news was that I had no video. I suspect that the driver was attempting to send a 1080p signal to the monitor right off the bat, but the EP719 is only capable of displaying a maximum of 1080i.

After a Windows Restore in safe mode and a reboot to get back into Windows with a working monitor, I then utilized the MonInfo utility to get the EDID information for my projector and added the "0x" prefix in front of each number before replacing the corresponding data in the text of your provided .inf file and saving it as a new one. I upgraded the generic monitor driver again with this new file and rebooted. This time, I was back to the drawing board with no HDMI audio at all and the Catalyst Control Center again stating that I had a connected DVI device...

Next step was to try your unmodified file again to upgrade the current setup. This time I modified only the statements that read 1920 or 1080 with the max resolution numbers for my projecor which are 1400 and 1050 respectively. This also resulted in no audio after reeboot. This is when a funny thing happened. I now had only low resolutions of 640x480, 800x600, 848x640 and 1024x768 as choices for my monitor--despite the fact that this projector can actually been proven to be able to display anything up to 1920x1080i from a variety of sources.

Out of frustration, I left the current driver intact and modified your original supplied file again back to the 1920, 1080 statements. Saved this as the same file name, updated the driver again and rebooted. This time I had HDMI audio again! Unfortunately, the best resolution I can display is 1024x768 again according the ATI's CCC. Strangely, however, when you pick any of these resolutions to display from the ATI controls, my projector is actually listing the detected resolutions as HDTV resolutions like 1280x720, 1366x768 and 1920x1080! Weirder and weirder... I don't know what will come of this, but it will be very interesting when I attempt to hook up my friend's new 1366x768, 32" 720p TV next week! Not to mention my 1280x720p Panasonic AX200U...

I'm pleased that we've finally fooled this video card into thinking that it recognizes the EDID of an actual HDMI audio enabled receiver or TV, but these other issues of display resolution are yet to be resolved--at least for me.

I can force the CCC to display 1080p 50i. Video isn't a problem. But can't have audio at all, even 2ch LPCM.
I'll try with vista. How should i modify the file for oveeride EDID then plz ?

first 128 byte block take from TV Report
second from receiver report
Should work under Vista with all possible audio standards
post #270 of 317
second part of receiver block ? (129->256) ?

Just to be sure

i'am about to finish to install Vista on my HTPC (not pleased to use vista for HTPC but well if it resolves my sound issue i'll go with it).
