More than three decades after they won the Academy Award(R) for Best Picture, director Francis Ford Coppola's classic films The Godfather and The Godfather, Part II will once again be enjoyed by audiences as they originally were meant to be seen, thanks to a meticulous restoration by Paramount Pictures, overseen by Coppola himself. On September 23, 2008, both fully restored films will debut on DVD and Blu-ray, along with a newly remastered version of The Godfather Part III, to be included as part of The Godfather, The Coppola Restoration Collection. All three films will be available individually or in a five-DVD collection or four-disc Blu-ray collection, which are loaded with a host of all-new special features.

Wow, can't wait for this. If done right [no DNR], this could be the most treasured set in any film lover's Blu-ray collection. The first two films are my #1 and 2 favorite films of all time.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All 3 films and HD featurettes?

I'm so there!
Not sure if I like the Blu-ray set being more than 1 1/2 times the cost of the DVD version, but this is Godfather I & II we're talking about here, so I know I'll buy it regardless.

And as geeked as I am about the Dolby TrueHD tracks, I think I'm more excited about the mono tracks being included this time around. Very nice, Paramount and Coppola!

Finally a Blu-ray title that is worth getting excited about (besides CE3K and Blade Runner). I'm hoping the street price will be under $100.

Well it should be just over $80 from Amazon.

I hope the PQ is on the money and that there is no controversy regarding Coppola's intentions as far as how the movies look.

From the press release the MSRP is $119.99 U.S. Amazon's standard discount is 30-33% so that puts it at just over $80.

BRING IT ON!

This is likely the landmark release for 2008. I'm drooling to see this restored, and they picked the right guys to do it right!

I know it was you, Franin. You broke my heart ....
When I first saw they announced they were selling individually, I was thinking of getting one-at-a-time, however after seeing the contents of Disc Four, i'll have to purchase the box set. Dang... that's alot of money all at one time!! I might have to make that an investment project...lol!!
Looks good, kudos for including the original mono soundtracks for us purists...

According to the announcement and Bill Hunt, there will be no individual releases for Blu-ray.
Now all we need is Robert Duvall spliced back into The Godfather 3 and the set is complete.
...and Sofia Copolla taken out and replaced by someone else. I'm fond of her as a director now, but she wasn't right in the film. Come to think of it, the script could be improved as well with a little better dialogue and some of Pacino's hammy acting/dialogue excised.

On its own, part III rates about a B/B+ for me, but parts I and II are A+ gold.
If this istrue, then I guess I'll finally be seeing this movies come Sept-Oct. Why isn't the third one going to have the same audio?
