I bet they will do what they did to Patton and screw it up. Hopefully Copolla prevented them from DNR'ing the whole thing. I will not be pre-ordering this. I'll stick with my grainy DVD box set's aged picture and rent this one to try it out first.

They just mean that unlike parts I and II, the third film will not have a mono track, since it was never mixed for mono to begin with.

Nope this one's coming out good as Robert A Harris has been working on it's restoration and he already spoke out against Patton and The Longest Day.

As the 'restored' transfers have already made their way to Europe on DVD recently, maybe someone can comment on how they look. Would let us know what to expect when the BDs arrive. Looking at the screenshots posted in this Spanish review and in this French review, it looks like grain/detail is intact. But, hard to judge from those screenshots.

Is Robert Harris involved in the Blu-ray mastering? Completely separate issue from the film restoration.

Considering that one of the most vocal anti-DNR transfer professionals (at least on the forum) is restoring the film, there's nothing to worry about. IIRC, the European DVDs that are already using this new transfer have no discernible DNR.

Studios typically don't dumb down/DNR releases for Europeans; it's usually for U.S.

Agreed on Sofia Coppola. She was bad to the point of distraction. I recall reading somewhere that Winona Ryder was originally cast as Michael Corleone's daughter, but she was injured in a horse riding accident or something and Coppola decided to put his daughter in. BIG mistake.

Hasn't Zoetrope Screwed the pooch with DNR on a couple of releases, Dracula comes to mind. Hope they don't do it with the Godfather Trilogy.

There is no DNR on Dracula....It has had things changed which a number of AVS members dislike but it has no DNR or EE applied to it.

I wish they gave us seamless branching like in Close Encounters and give us the extended editions which were recut for television as well as the original cinema versions of the first two movies.

Perhaps the extra footage hasn't een restored though and just the theatrical footage.

Actually, I'm sure that Coppola would prefer to simply remake the movie -- in his own time, with his own rewritten script and several cast changes. Sofia was unfairly treated as she was a quick substitute for a suddenly unavailable Winona Ryder (shopping, anyone?).
But let's wish that the amazing, still-working 92-year-old Eli Wallach would repeat his wonderful work.

I am very happy Paramount has decided to place the extras on a separate disc. At around three hours each, Paramount needs every bit of a BD-50 available. A DNR free transfer with heavy grain is harder to compress.
