The Godfather Trilogy - Page 3

Damn...tons of extras! NICE!
Excellent. Can't wait for this one.

I once saw them in chronicle order. It started with Don Corleone when he was a child and then older played by the magnificent Robert De Niro which then led to Godfather 1.if they did that I will just get the first.Wasn't big on number 3.

Mine!

God I love these (first two) movies. I personally am unable to separate them, and always group them together. I have no problem having to buy the whole set (part 3 is far behind the first two in quality, but isn't a horrible movie in its own right).

I am very interested in seeing what these will look like, and what the reaction will be. I saw I and II at the Samuel Goldwyn theater a few years ago, so I have some reference to go by, but that was obviously pre-restoration. The print I saw wasn't bad, but it was obvious that there were issues that needed to be resolved.

I can't wait for these, as they are in my top 3 favorite movies of all time.

Same here Rob. Godfather II may be my favorite movie of all time. I'm as excited for this release as any since the format's inception.

Absolutely agree!

I was actually thinking, after I made my post above, that it's actually a bit sad that this thread isn't 3 times bigger than it is. I mean I know that this thread was only started today, but for movies of this caliber to be coming to Blu-ray, I would expect (hope) that the excitement would be much more widespread than it apparently is.

Then again, I have read posts on other forums by members saying that they have never seen these movies, so now would be as good a time as any.

Am I an Elitist? Or am I just getting old?

I grew up with these films and just simply love them. To answer the question Rob, where getting old.

if this is DNR'd to death someone will have to answer to alot of angry people

I hate to say it but how things are lately and most troublesome Paramount being involved I would put a good wager on this being a total mess, especially the first film

This comment by Robert Harris was referred to earlier in this thread. It suffices to say that we should be safe with this one.

I remember seeing Warriors on HD/DVD from Paramount and they did a fantastic job.If they apply the same ethic in what they did with Warriors then we shall be very happy people.
true. The Warriors looked excellent.
A no-brainer.

SOLD.
Yeah, this is definitely a pre-order item for me. Partly because I want to see how Harris/Coppola/Willis (re)treated this slice of film Americana, and partly because I'm really curious as to how a severed horse's head looks in 1080p...

Yep, I still have that on VHS. Three tapes in a nice presentation case.
It was originally done for TV, and titled "The Godfather-The Complete Epic For Television" and was, of course, edited. The VHS release was complete.
My favorite way of watching the first two films.

Can't wait. Count me in the anticipation club as well.

When i saw them in that order I felt it was the best way to watch them also.BTW your very lucky to have them, not much of them around I was told. I highly doubt they would do that in BD but if they did it I would be a very happy man.

I am really looking forward to this release and, like all the others, hope that this release does the material justice.

With the exception of 3 (I refer to them simply by their number, as they do in the Sopranos), I have never seen them in the theater so this will be exciting. 1 and 2 are up there in my top ten list.

I like 3 very much as well. It was a much more personal movie than the first two and I liked the idea of the prospect of redemption for someone like Michael, who knowingly did such terrible things, even if he convinced himself that they were done for good reasons. We know what the road to hell is paved with. . .

Unfortunately, 3 did not live up to expectations, in my mind, because of several bad performances. Sophia Coppola was horrible. Eli Wallach was a stereotype. Most unfortunately, Al Pacino was, at times, way too over the top as well. It was almost like everyone forgot that the power of Pacino's performance in 1 and 2 was in the unspoken. Still, there were some very good and powerful moments that I look forward to seeing again.

I really look forward to watching these again in September.

I remember that there were a few added scenes. I seem to recall a scene where a young Tom was discovered and taken in by Vito. Do I remember that correctly?

The problem with viewing it in a linear way is that you lose all the contrast that was developed showing how what Michael did was so different than what Vito did.

Absolutely!! Already ordered I cannot believe more people are not freaking out for these. This is, by far, the biggest release yet.
Sorry, not without firm confirmation on the quality as my preorder days are over! I'm sure there are many who feel the same way.
$99.99 MSRP would've been more reasonable, but Paramount probably figured those of us who would pay that would surely pay $124.99. They were right [in this case]. Hate to say it, but I would've paid more as this set is a must-have. Signs point to this release being done right for hi-def.

Both, but we still love you.

As far as interest ,I'm wondering if it isn't that pesky demographic thing creeping in again .

I can't help but believe that may be the case. Remember when The Matrix was announced for HD-DVD? Good lord, that thread took off like wildfire, probably 50 pages long in one day. The Godfather trilogy gets announced, and there is a much smaller response.

Plenty of views. As the time gets closer to release date, there will be plenty of posts.

Well, that's a good point. Lots of those types of posts, as well as a lot of format war discussion (Matrix was going to make HD-DVD win etc).

Yes, I guess there are quite a few views. This thread will be more active in September I'm sure.

I agree. It almost reinforces certain stereotypes about the format and movie preferences.

However, I will say at least we aren't reading some of the responses I've seen on other forums. Some claiming these movies *might* be good for a rental at best.
I want to watch it on big screens.
