Monoprice Wallplates and Such..... just a question

They all screw into a standard wall box. If you dont have one you will have a problem attaching it to anything

If you are not familiar with OLD WORK drywall boxes it is time to get acquainted.



Basically you cut a rectangular hole in a section of drywall not backed by a stud, pop in the box, twist a couple of screws and wings flare out gripping the back side of the drywall. Those Monoprice wall plates will then fit to those boxes.

actually, if all you are running are HDMI and speaker connections, you only need a low voltage box. It's like an old work box but the back is open. Home Depot and Lowes has them. They're orange, IIRC. I used the Monoprice recessed AC outlet and all the variations of Banana Plug plates and couldn't be happier.

I chose to homerun the HDMI from the receiver and DVD directly to the TV. I wanted to avoid as many HDMI connections as possible. They're pretty shaky as it is. The more connections, the more chance for a problem

it's has the power on one side and the low voltage on the other.

running two seperate boxes will not work well for the monoprice thing you're looking at.

Also, if for some reason you didn't want a box but wanted to put a wall plate up... small drywall screws will hold the wall plate in, not the nicest install but it will work...

Or get a mud ring.

is there any difference in functionality or usage between a mud ring and an old work box besides the back being open?

Basically in a preexisting wall, would there be any benefit to installing an old work box as opposed to a mud ring?

Old work box is required for electrical work, aka 110 volt wiring. The mud ring is used for Data, telephone, and speaker wiring.
