Custom mode:

Backlight: 4( or user preference )
Picture: 88
Brightness: 52
Color: 51
Hue: 0
Color Temp: Warm 2
Sharpness: Min
Noise reduction: Off
MPEG noise reduction: Off
Advanced settings: All Off
Color Space: Standard

White Balance:
R-Gain: -3
G-Bias: -1
B-Bias: 8

All others at 0.

Grey scale looks gray in light areas, and as gray as I can get them without discoloration.

Sounds interesting altough I find Warm 2 to be way too warm. I'm using Ibre34's settings for standard color and against a gray scale test screen, they look pretty good to my unprofessional eye as they do on program content.

i find Warm 1 the most natural to my eyes.

for both my Comcast feed and very similar for Panny S77 DVD player (still haven't gotten BR) using test pattern on former and full DVE calibration on latter,

BL: min-3 depending on conditions although i find 1-2 is usually where i like it.

Picture: 83
Brightness: 41
Color: 40
Hue: G3
Color Temp: Warm 1
Noise reduction: Auto for TV and off for DVD
Color space: wide
live color: low

everything else is off or zero.

my room is dimly lit during all times of the day (no window directly in it although sunlight comes in from adjacent rooms), so BL might need to be higher for others...

I need help. I downloaded the firmware 2.02r from the Sony website when I updated my tv it said updating to firmware 1.94c previous firmware was N/A. Is this correct or should it say firmware 2.02r?

That is correct the name of the file is actually different from the actual firmware version.

I used the Video Essetntials Blu-ray to calbirate my 46z. I then copied the settings to all the other inputs. You can pick up a copy of Video Essentials at BB for around $20. I am running OTA.

I have a 46z4100 with all the firmware updates installed in the correct order, 194, 200r, and 202r. The pic has a slight grainy look to it, even with blue ray played through a PS3 with a monoprice 1.3 hdmi cable. Any suggestions on what to try to fix the GRAINY pic? Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. FYI I also have a 52w4100 with all current updates that looks perfect. Thank you

not sure if this is the correct thread to ask this but the others seem very cluttered- i updated to latest firmware and now see slight sparkles when using direct tv- has there been anyway around it? i haven't seen it when using ps3 but i may not have spent enough time with the ps3 yet

not sure there is much you can do for audio lol just turn it out and use the virtual surround thing if it doesn't sound hollow.

I went back to Warm 1 now. After a while the colors starting looking green, or greenish hue. Switching back to Warm 1 and raising the brightness from 52 to 55 seem to offer a better viewing experience. I raised the brightness to get better shadow detail in dark scenes, now I can actually watch AvP 2 because that movie is dark.

Have you tried any calibrations or are you using the default picture settings? You may want to decrease the "sharpness" and see how that works for you.

For PC input, I have the following tuned via Pearl Harbor DVD's THX Optimizer.
Input is through PC, using 2 ATI 4850s on Catalyst 8.12 with stock/default application settings.

Not much to adjust:
Picture Mode - Video
Backlight - 4
Picture - Max
Brightness - 29
Color Temperature - Neutral
Rest are grayed out.
Power Saver - Low

I'll play with the THX Optimizer on XBox 360's component and post again.
Component I have the following settings:
Picture Mode - Custom
Backlight - 5
Picture - 83
Brightness - 28
Color - 68
Hue - R4
Color Temp - Neutral
Sharpness - 7
Noise Reduction - Off
MPEG Noise Reduction - Off
Everything else is default

Game and Photo Mode though, since this is for the XBox 360 (tuned via Pearl Harbor's THX Optimizer).

Edit: Watching the DVD movie on XBox 360 with the above settings was fine, but when it goes back to Dashboard the TV loads up another profile @.@. Using the above settings in Dashboard made it look too dark, esp when viewing Halo 3's trailer. Adjusting the Brightness to 48 made it look fine, but using Brightness 48 back in the DVD made it too bright... Confused why the DVD and Dashboard/Video uses/needs different settings but at least they seem to use and save 2 profiles.

Has anyone attempted to display jpeg images on this LCD from a digital camera and/or camcorder? I plugged my Canon Powershot digital camera into the usb port on the side of the set and got no response. I then plugged my Sony HD camcorder (usb) into the T.V. to see if it would display still images stored on the SD card in the camcorder and still nothing. I read in the manual that only certain Sony digital cameras will work with this set. This seems very limiting. This is a dissapointment.

Any decent flash drive, with the pics copied onto it and plugged directly into the set's USB port, should work. Camera's plugged the USB port may not.

ibre34 how do I get the 203R update.
Like most people here I didn't like the autodimming the Z does, but after reading a review somewhere( I forget which) turning on the A.C.E. eliminated the autodimming. I have set mine to low and wouldn't you know no autodimming.

Sweet new update. Also thanks for the new settings ibr34 I'll give them a try once I update since I'm currently using your settings now.
Great forum, I'm learning a lot and can't wait to try some of these settings.

Right now my 46Z is sitting in the box in my den. My question is should I run the 203r update right out of the box for improved performance or wait and see if I have any issues? Should I look for a certain build date to determine if I should install the update. One more, if I should install the update can I go from whatever is on the set to 203r?

I'm at work and have to wait until tomorrow to check out my new 46z4100 also, interested in what DMullen said. Or do I need to even do this firmware update? Havn't seen it yet, so I don't know when it was made. (probably matters?)
Thanks in advance.

My build date in Jaunary 2009.

Help! I just got a 46" 4100Z...When I turn it on a message appears stating that the disc is powering up---it then seems to take a minute or so before the full brightness & color appears on the screen....Is this normal?
I have my PC hooked up to HDMI and ran this test, http://www.tireal.com/. This is an awesome calibration tool if someone wants to eyeball it. Everything from Grayscale to RGB range. Very nice.

The disc is powering up? Hmm.. Check to see if HDMI Control is turned on. That may have something to do with it. If it is turn it off. if that's not it, I can't say. I've never seen anything like this.

After running some LCD test it appears the Z series does not support the full range RGB. Anyone else confirm this? PS3 users, if this is the case with your set, and it should be, you would want to set your Display to RGB Limited in the XMB because games default to RGB, and in movies (when playing a movie hit Triangle and go to Video Settings) choose Automatic.
