Scaler or New Projector

I have a Sony VW 50 projector and would like to get some feedback. Should I get an external scaler/processor like the VP50Pro or should I sell the projector and get the VW 60 which has the built in scaling for the anamorphic lens? The cost would be similar assuming I don't get a discount on the VW 60 which is possible.

I would do the scaler it can go with you with any projector you buy. And you will not gain all that much as far as projector and can not do all stretches for all lenses. But an external scaler is very versatile. I did just that I added a Lumagen HDQ to my VW50.

We have posted several technical tips on our website that show how to setup a Lumagen video processor for a video system with an anamorphic lens.

Thanks for the feedback. My lens came in today. Now I need to order my scaler.

VP's are the only way to go with a scope setup. Too many little things a projector with it built in can't do.

I would get the projector. I went from the VW50 to the VW60, it is a significant upgrade. I also have a Lumagen scaler, and I find the vertical stretch built in to the VW60 to be of high quality. A scaler will do more than vertical stretch and can improve the image in other areas, but it can't get around the base performance of the PJ. A scaler has many advantages - switching, automation, etc... but from a pure price/performance standpoint with projected image quality being the determining factor, to me it is no contest - the VW60 wins by a significant margin vs the VW50 + scaler.

Usualsuspects, what differences did you notice between the two projectors?

My thoughts are here:

Still feel the same way as I did when I posted that.
