You know, I plan to give Oppo a shot...

Gene's interview with Jeff Talmadge was interesting. There is a lot of potential in this player. The recommendations people made here, such as a "source direct" mode and fast responsiveness, are important.

But, the most important thing for Denon to do is make their optical drives more reliable this time around. While my 2930 has worked flawlessly for well over a year, I've seen countless reports of people experiencing early optical drive failures with the 2930, 3930 and older Denon universal players. Having a "swiss army knife" of a player that handles all formats competently is great, but issues in reliability can put a serious damper on people's perception of the product.

What are our current options if we want MA and True HD? I need to believe that there are othres in the following months thta want to help us fix these issues and can offer good quality. Do you think Oppo might try and come up with such a player?

So if there is a new interface to replace Denon Link 3 (for jitter free multi-channel LPCM), then this implies the recent AV Amps/receivers are already going to need a hardware upgrade next year!!

Something tells me that there is a little profit in there for Denon on items like this! Wow, selling items like that for $400 is insane.

The 2 channel balanced inputs has attracted many AVP owners as myself and others on the AVP/POA forum.The Denon link on the player will be compatible with the AVP so will be looking forward to hear the new audio formats coming through.

Well I guess Denon wants a peice of the cable market also I mean there is a few companies out there that charge outrageous prices for cables also not just Denon.I guess it's up to the consumer wether they want to buy it or not.

For the balanced 'audiophile '2ch output, they ought to consider a state-of the-art high performance analog output stage, which really means discrete components (no op-amps) and no coupling caps in the signal path.

Does HDMI 1.3 really keep jitter to the low levels that audiophile critics claim is required for top quality sound?

Smiley included for good reason. The problem with DL3 or any other proprietary interface is its proprietary nature. Too restrictive.

If this new Player decodes all audio codecs up to 7.1 over analog and have an even better DAC section than the DVD-3800BDCI I think I will go for it and replace my DVD-3800BDCI.

My only wish would be to have a BD player than can do all audio processing like an audio processor : Per speaker crossover, lossless and lossy codecs decoding (no core codecs) and bringing 5.1 audio tracks up to 7.1.
That would be a nirvana for me, then I would not have to change my current audio processor !

(I must say that I am very happy with my DVD-3800BDCI, even if it is not that a fast loading unit, even DTS-HD HR and DD+ are only "core decoded")

Another idea re: specifications for this player. My understanding of current high-end CD players is that they are going to a hard-drive based solution, where the cd is read and its contents somehow digitized onto the internal drive of the CD player, and then output like normal, reducing jitter, etc. Since this Denon is supposedly going to be a 2.0 player, it will have 1GB of memory anyway, so maybe this sort of CD playback method could be implemented on this player as well, using the 1GB (or more) of memory to store the contents of the CD prior to playback. Any ideas if this would work?

My Request:
ILink - It can handle 5.1 24/96 PCM, Reduced Jitter, Native DSD and DVD-A and I wont need to replace my preamp. It is very similar to Denonlink anyway so would not require much extra hardware.

If no Ilink then:
Excellent 7.1 Analogue Section
Much more flexible BM than 3800BD
RS232 signalling of audio channels present (3800BD has this)

Its a real shame they cant add HDDVD, cant they buy a last batch of spares from Tosh? They wont be making millions of these players.

Don't hold your breath on firewire/i.link audio support. Everyone and their mothers have dropped it in favor of HDMI 1.3a (and DenonLink for Denon). I guess everyone wants to save a few bucks on licensing fees? I'd like to see this included too as I'm still using my Elite VSX-59TXi.

And, too bad Toshiba can't provide the HD-DVD laser + lens anymore *sigh* I will have to keep my A1 and A30.

I wonder if this new flagship is upgradable later? It sounds like there will be an audio only Blu-ray profile released some time in the future... this sounds like the perfect player for it with what sounds like a serious 2 channels analog stage + output.

Don't know how much better 7.1 analog section you can get than the 3800, unless you go to dual differential DACs per channel, etc.

more flexible BM? not sure I follow what else you are missing on the 3800....it has Distance, level, size, crossover freq, +10dB LFE boost, etc.

Yep, was after dual diff or 1792s in the dac section. The additional cost should allow for a Denon 5XXX standard analogue section.

What I like about my current prepro is I can set a crossover per speaker pair, for my setup 70hz for the fronts and center and 100hz for the rears works best, AFAIK you cannot do this with the 3800BD (Please correct me if I'm wrong).

ah, ok. yes, that's correct, you have a universal XO point for the speakers vs Sub.

I'll be taking a strong look at this unit to add BR to what my 5910 does for me now--a true all in one player solution.

I assume it will play standard CDs through the regular outputs--analog or digital, without using the balanced 2ch outputs?

Only interesting bit of info is it sounds like this player is going be announced at CES (Janurary) and will definitely be Profile 2.0.
