I think Warner should go for DTS - HD Master Audio on all of their releases....At the moment i don't have a receiver with HDMI in so with DTS HD i get the core 1.5mbp/s audio....Much better for me and i'd rather have dts on all the releases.

Again, 640k DD > 1536 DTS (and stop comparing them to the 448kbps DD versions!)

TrueHD much better support in hardware (including PCs), no "bombs" or "pause pops". Dynamic control for late night/apartment listening.

I'm sorry but i find the 1.5mbp/s DTS core sounds better than the 640kbp/s Dolby core tracks....Just my opinion but that's what my ears tell me. I don't believe i made any comparisons to 448kbp/s so why are you saying that but since you mention it i will elaborate that there is also a problem with some films only having a 448kbp/s core track and NOT 640kbp/s.

It's actually 1.509 kbp/s as certain bits are not used even though you refer to it as 1536kbp/s. I simply type 1.5mbp/s because it's easier to do so.

As for the problems you talk about....All player dependent and none of those problems have been experienced by Playstation 3 owners and for other Blu Ray players a firmware fix would solve any audio issues. ( assuming they have any )

My receiver already has dynamic control as do most people's so why is that an issue ? Remember we are talking the core tracks not the lossless tracks here.

You need to tell me which direct comparisons you made, what titles, and if level matching was done. It's useless to compare different discs.

Of course it is useless to compare different discs but apart from Top Gun there is no Blu Ray discs that have both Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio on them so it's hard to run comparison checks of the core and compare on the same film.....My receiver and speakers and projector are calibrated using AVIA and i find dts at 1.5mbp/s a more rewarding audio experience. Since everything is calibrated i shouldn't need to level match each codec unless one is running hotter than the other.....To me 640kbp/s Dolby sounds very good but dts at 1.5mbp/s sounds superb.

Are you saying dts cook their audio to enhance it for Blu Ray....If so that's another reason i prefer it. Or are you simply saying there are volume differences...If so please run your own tests and open a thread on the matter and i'll pop in and read the views on the subject matter.

No need to get too serious on me though...This is strictly my own personal opinion that i prefer the dts core.

Close Encounters has TrueHD and DTS-HD MA as well.

Seriously? There are those who prefer the Super35 format opened up to eliminate the black bars...or what DNR and edge enhancement is to video.

Needless to say, it's NOT what the original sound mixers intended for you to hear. I want original sound the same way I want OAR.

and...they sound identical. Yet the DTS-MA track takes another megabit.

Regarding the core tracks obtained from the lossless one.

According to Filmmixer on another thread there is only one mix done for these films ( although i can't understand why Top Gun is 5.1 for Dolby yet 6.1 for the dts track but Filmmixer seemed to know exactly what he was talking about and does it for a living ).....So it is the same mix but to me dts sounds richer and more fuller....Don't ask me why because i can't explain it...When i upgrade my Receiver to full lossless i will take any lossless codec and be happy but for now i prefer the dts core track.

No argument from me regarding OAR as that's how i want my movies too and same goes for excessive DNR or EE ( not wanted )

One other thing....I believe it's routine for film soundtracks to be redone for the home because of the nearfield experience...New Line for example always redid the soundtrack because cinema seating is different to a home environment - I believe Disney also redo soundtracks for the home ( The mix remains the same but they take into account the home environment is different to the cinema ) I do not know if this trend continues with the lossless tracks.

DD and DTS both (standard versions) at full bitrate are on equal terms IMHO, it is mix dependent, not implying you are doing this at all but most people assume that DTS having over double the size data rate of DD should sound better but that is not the case, they each utilize data differently

No i never do that as i appreciate Dolby is more efficient with their compression hence it can be a lower bitrate and the same sound that dts at higher bitrates achieves as far as the core tracks go.

All it is really with me i stick the disc in and if it's a DTS HD Master Audio then i'll take the core....If it's Dolby True HD then i'll take the core from that....Happy enough with both so perhaps i overstated things.

Truth is i can only take what is on the disc....When i eventually get a HDMI receiver i'll take the full lossless track and be happy.

On one final point....There are a few threads out there that say DTS HD Master Audio is more efficient and uses less space than Dolby True HD.....Now don't all rush in and say i'm wrong....Just saying there are some threads that say it and i remember someone giving a reason as to why that was ( but i forget ) - It's been said again on the Warner BD-25's thread just in case anyone is interested.

This is a very interesting thread that talks about the sound formats. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1#post14329704

Finding Nemo is supposed to be coming out in Scandinavia on October 18th with an english language track but might be locked to Region B.

So i guess that's Sweden, Norway, Denmark for sure.

Braveheart is supposed to be out on October 22nd a full five months before the American release also in Scandinavia - I believe Fox own European rights ( at least British rights ) and Paramount are America for that movie.

Looks like Gladiator is coming in the Netherlands on December 4th so an American release might follow shortly after. Dances With Wolves on December 5th - Hopefully the longer cut of the movie and that's a German release...probably won't have subtitles in English as my copy of Tomb Raider - Cradle Of Life didn't have any although the image and sound was superb.

I have not opened, i dont know how warner sent it to me so quick

It is true hd audio, video is 2.99 AR. I'll let you guys know. I would like a good total recall too, along with last action hero, and one with jamie li curtis, true lies!!
Just watched this one as I received my copy from WHV today.
I'd give PQ a 3/5 and AQ a 4/5. The TrueHD track is pretty good but like most Warner titles, you need to select it when the movie autoplays.
Detail is pretty good but the color palette is subdued. I enjoyed watching it though. Hadn't seen it in a few years.

I don't get it, do you guys pick the express shipping or standard? I just got my Sarah Connor Chronicles today, while others got it weeks ago.

I think it's the luck of the draw. I got JL S1 yesterday, but I got Blade Runner a month before release I also got the Pan's Labyrinth 2 weeks early when that came out. I always choose free and it'll ship Ground or sometimes Next Day air it's completely random.

It has a 2.99:1 aspect ratio???

I wasn't going to pick this one up, but if the scope is that wide I think I need to see it.

I still did not get around playing it. Just looked up cover. Ask Maestro to confirm AR, as he watched it?

No, it's not 2.99:1...it is 2.40:1

And patsfan, it does seem to be some lottery or something...most titles I get on release day from them but I received SCC and Eraser early. In Eraser's case, 2 weeks early. And I always select the free standard shipping (for $50+ orders).

Thanks for clarifying! May be I misread 4 for 9 lol!

I assume that was OAR for ERASER?
Just wanted to throw my 2 cents out - Eraser was made for HD! I hope it gets a great transfer.
