Paradigm speakers - many questions

My setup will look like this:
- Sony 46 XBR5
- Paradigm Studio 20 -fronts
- Pzradigm J-29 stands
- Paradigm Studio 590 -center
- Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH
- DV-48AV
- Sony PS3 40GB

I already have a TV and PS3. I have a few questions before I get the remaining items:

1) How much discount should I expect for a demo speaker? The dealer has the 590 on a floor and wants to sell it.. I know you can expect about 10-15% off for new products, but no idea about demos
2) Why should I NOT buy from vann's.com => the listed receiver + DVD can be purchased $300 cheaper then from the local dealer
3) should I buy my center speaker or subwoofer first?
4) any recommendations/hints for the listed system

I am new in the whole audio/video world... and I appreciate your input.

Make him a "low-ball" offer. Go from there.

If it means anything to you, in buying from a local dealer, you help support them. They take quite a beating from the internet retailers. Establishing a good relationship with your local dealer can have benefits down the road.

You'll get a lot of opinions, here. If you have to buy piecemeal, personally, I would buy the subwoofer first. It can have much more impact on your overall HT. Phantom center can work quite well. Others will say that the center is the most important speaker in your setup and that that should be bought first.

Nothing really except you didn't list a subwoofer. Spend as much as you can on it. (And you'll probably eventually want some surrounds, too.)

thank you for prompt response.

1. what would be a resonable "low-ball" offer. The speaker retails for $999..

2. I am thinking about some 8 inch sub - since this unit is for my condo. I do not need anything big.


I will try getting 15% off for new speakers - but will be happy with 10%

No such thing as too big a sub.

Calibrated properly, a bigger/better sub won't really be any louder. Just lower.
