resellerrating has a 8/10 rating

They may have a good score at resellerlating, but they are not listed by Denon as an authorized internet seller. Denon has a very clear warning about this: "The warranty on DENON Electronics products is NOT VALID if the products have been purchased from an unauthorized dealer/on-line E-tailer"

I just looked here on Amazon and I can't find it either, if anyone has a link I would appreciate it...Thanks

Amazon is being blocked by AVS. Google for AVR-1909 it should be within the first 20 search results. BTW it is 588.95 shipping from hookontronics.

edit: It was there just awhile ago. Not anymore.

Does Denon provide warranty service on items purchased from a non-authorized dealer?

The hooked on electronics link above looks like a good deal on an instock item but I dont think they are authorized-- means no warranty?

what always amazes me is those of you who take the time to post a message which is critical of one who does not know an answer. either because they dont understand what they read or dont search the threads such that they find the answer.

you could just not answer and ignore the question rather than be critical. it also would save me the time of reading your snobbish replies. it is of no assistance to anyone.

these "official XXXX" threads get hopelessly bogged down with repetitive questions that have already been answered. it's not like this is a 5,000+ post thread with 120 pages. I think ignoring the question is much worse than trying to gently help people learn how to use this forum (and other similar internet resources) more effectively.

Nope.

Amazon has the 1908 listed, but not the 1909 yet.

Did you buy it stocked and shipped by Amazon? Otherwise they are not going to honor it.

Yes, I did. You may recall that I posted previously that Big River had the 1909 listed as a pre-buy from about 7/12 - 7/16. I placed an order on 7/14 and Big River (not a reseller) shipped it on 7/23. I don't know why they have not re-listed it, since they clearly had at least one that they shipped to me. Hopefully it's just a matter of a few more days, and they will list it at below MSRP.

You do have 15 days to return for any reason. Generally it has been my experience with receivers if you have not found a defect by then you are good to go for a long while before normal use and wear takes it's toll long after warranties have expired. Also, there are good warranty sponsors of the AVS web site that offer far better values than the CCs, etc. of the world.

I guess I am confused. Who is Big River and how do they = Amazon?

Sorry, Big River is a pseudonym for Amazon that many people use on AVS to skirt the prohibition on discussing prices and sources.

I know what you mean, however the Denon warranty is particularly attractive because it's for 2 years for an AVR.

This is my 1st post here. The 1909 thread has been very helpful. I am in the process of putting together a HT for my family room. I was leaning towards Yam V663 or the Onkyo 606, but now the Denon 1909 is probably the favorite.

I have a question, which might be simple for the regular posters here. It is about Zone 2 options. It applies to the 1909 but also to any 2 zone receiver.

On page 69 of the manual is shows you the setup for 5.1 in the main zone and powered stereo speakers in zone 2. This is the setup I will be using for the main room and my outside speakers. However, I also have 2 speakers in a 3rd location (dining room). I would like them to play the same input as zone 2. On page 71 it shows the setup for 7.1 with zone 2 powered by an extra amp. I wonder, can you do both? I have an older but perfectly functional NAD stereo amp. Ideally, I would like to run all 4 speakers in zone 2. I know that hardware exists to do this external to the receiver, but it would be much easier if it was all controlled by the receiver. I anticipate the problem being volume control, since the 1909 will have control over the volume of the 2 powered speakers but the NAD will control the volume of the extra speakers.

Thanks

Is this a good deal?

Just a heads up, the Apple TV is about to be refreshed with new hardware. I'm sure at the very least it will have a larger hard drive for the same price. http://mactactic.com/detail/AppleTV/

Not that it matters but it looks like actual front display is not as it is pictured in the Denon site and of those pictures widely available now. Can our early owners post a pic of the front while it is playing a source. tia.

Excuse the crude editing, I was trying to show some 1909 detail without washing out everything else, but I wasn't all that successful.

Zone stuff is a bit confusing. Okay so the 1909 can power 7 speakers total. Basically you can have 5 speakers in your main room, and it can also power 2 surrounds that can be in your main room, or elsewhere (your outside speakers). This would be all considered Zone 1 since those 7 speakers must all be the same source.

Simultaneously, it can also send a signal out from zone 2 out that can be a different source, or it can be the same source **if you've run analog cables from your sound source to the receiver in addition to the digital cables**. Basically the digital cables will provide the sound for the the 7 speakers (zone ) and the analog will be used to provide the zone 2 output sound. From the zone 2 output you will need to connect to an amp, and then from there you can power as many or as few speakers as you like. Depending on your needs and the amp you select, I have a Niles one that I like very much and is very flexible.

Obviously the need for analog for zone 2 can be problematic as some audio sources require you to select in the menus the output, be it digital or analog. It's an annoying limitation but apparently there is nothing to be done about it currently. Just hope my XM tuner for this XM ready receiver can be sent to zone 2 without any trouble.

Which old Yammy you are referring to? I have 9 or 10 years old RX-V995 myself, for which I paid $900 in 1998/9 (can't remember). Would be interested to hear more about the difference (whichever Yammy you used to have).

I've been planning on the RX-V663 for some time now, but the 1909 room eq features seem they could be better than in the RX-V663? 1909 has one more HDMI input, but no pre-outs. Are there any other notable differences, featurewise?

Has anyone anything to say about the audio quality between these units?

Thanks!

My old Yamaha was RX-V1105. I was also looking at the RX-V863 while deciding on an AV unit. The only reason I got the 1909 was the salesman recommendation.

The 1909 sounds good to me and I noticed more of a surround sound split from the speakers. The auto set-up was easy. I have the Audyssey set to Evening and the sound level is constant between explosions and dialogue.

None of this is technical. It's just what sounds good to me. I don't think you can go wrong with either unit you're looking at.

Bear with me, I'm testing to see what AVS will allow me to upload. If anyone needs to see higher rez, PM me.

I just replaced my Yamaha RX-V1400 with the 1909 and couldn't be happier. The Audyssey features (MultEQ, Dynamic EQ, and Dynamic Volume) were what sold me, and they are EVERY BIT as good as advertised. I echo everything solcris has already said.

Just a tidbit for you: my TV and audio system was calibrated last year by Jeff Meier of AccuCal, who did a masterful job. He has become my "guru" about A/V because of his knowledge and also because of his familiarity with the rest of my gear and my listening room's characteristics. When I looked at upgrading my receiver thia summer and told him I was looking at the new Yamahas (I have ALWAYS been a Yamaha receiver guy, all the way back to the CR-840 back in the late 70s), here is what he told me:

"I would avoid Yamaha receivers at this time. I have found serious audio and
video problems in many models at all price points recently. I would look at
either Denon or Onkyo. Yamaha quality has fallen
dramatically"

I originally looked at the Onkyo 605 and 805, but the feature set of the new Denon's were what sold me. The Dynamic Volume feature is what sold my wife on it, and she is glad I bought the 1909.

Hope this helps!
