If you review the 1910/790 Owner's thread you'll find that folks are getting brand new 1910's with full 2 year warranty for not much more than that.

You could sell the remote(s) on ebay and get maybe $10/ea. You might be able to sell the unit as a whole for $50 if you're lucky. Or you can donate it to Saint Vincent dePaul and be able to claim $250 off your taxes next year.
I of course would compensate you $25 to box up the unit (what, put it in its box and tape it closed and put my address on it) and wouldn't expect it for "free".
The rule of thumb is to not spend more than 25% of the purchase price of a new item to repair it and new 1910's can be had for just under $400 while refurb 1909's go for close to $300. If the 1909 still meets your needs, see if you can get a better estimate from a local repair shop.
I wouldn't sell the remote though as you might get maybe $50-$100 on Craig's list for the 1909 from someone who is willing to get it repaired, perhaps looking for a 2nd room AVR. Perhaps get Splicer to up his bid to say $60 and call it a deal!
