Right. Consumer electronics equipment is notoriously less picky about EDID than PC equipment.

If you want to say that video card manufacturers should relax their specs a little, I won't argue with you.

So, is there a way I can dump the EDID that my receiver is using?

I am having a similar issue as well. When I first installed 7RTM to my DG45ID my audio device in the sound menu showed up as 'SC-07' which is my receiver. I installed the audio driver off Intel's website and all was fine, showing as my Pio receiver with 7.1 audio. But then I installed the integrated graphics driver off the web and as soon as I did so my audio device is now listed as 'HDMI device' and only lists 2 channel support.

Right now I have my PC connected via HDMI to my Pioneer SC-07 which is connected by HDMI to a Pioneer PDP5020FD which is usually on and a HC1500 projector which is typically off. Almost seems like its reading the TV's audio capabilities instead of the receiver. Anyone else experiencing this issue or know a better solution than running the Win7 generic graphics driver to get multichannel audio?

I had the same 2-channel thing displayed, but it still passes 8 (or however many you setup in the device configuration dialogs).

Go to the Intel Graphics Tray. Click on the "i" icon in the upper right hand corner of the tray. Save to Disk. Open the saved file and the EDID should be at the bottom of the file.

I am not using the Intel Graphics. I have a ASUS 4350 card.

Doh! Sorry. Monitor Asset Manager from Entech will give it to you.

I ran this utility. Here is the part that I think is relevant:

CE audio data (formats supported)
LPCM 8-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48/88/96/176/192 kHz
DTS 6-channel, 1536k max. bit rate at 44/48/88/96 kHz
AC-3 6-channel, 640k max. bit rate at 32/44/48 kHz
DTS-HD 8-channel, 16-bit at 44/48/88/96/176/192 kHz
DD+ 8-channel at 44/48 kHz
DVD-A 6-channel at 44/48/88/96/176/192 kHz
DVD-A 8-channel at 44/48/88/96 kHz

CE speaker allocation data
Channel configuration.... 7.1
Front left/right......... Yes
Front LFE................ Yes
Front center............. Yes
Rear left/right.......... Yes
Rear center.............. Yes
Front left/right center.. No
Rear left/right center... Yes
Rear LFE................. No

The receiver definitely supports 7.1 but the only option I get for sound over HDMI is stereo.

I'd have to see the raw EDID to be sure, but it does look like from what you've posted the ATI drivers should be seeing the LPCM capabilities.

I just returned this board as I was having horrible issues putting this board to sleep. When waking the system I get no video until I power the machine off and then back on.

Has anyone moved to either the ASUS P5Q-EM or Foxconn G45M-S? If so, what are your impressions? Thanks.

Welcome to the club. I'm still dealing with the Standby bugs in the board. See my earlier posts if you're interested. To sum up: With the current BIOS version, the system finally stopped waking from Standby by itself, for no reason. Now it stays in Standby, but sometimes it wakes up to a black screen, and the only remedy is a cold reboot.
Intel support is currently back to acting as if the bug never existed...

I use the ASUS P5Q-EM board, but I never put it to sleep. I am going to wait for Windows 7 before trying again.

Spending a little on electricity is a small price to pay...missing a show the wife wanted recorded is a sin akin to infidelity.

FWIW I've had no problems with sleep. I'm running the latest BIOS (113) and using the HDMI connection.

What about the network drivers? What version are you using?

Whatever the latest ones are for Win 7. I'm not using the onboard network; I'm using a USB wireless N device.

Nope, looks right to me. I thought it would be the 2-channel-then-8-channel "Denon bug", but it's not.

Okay... I'm running XP SP2. BIOS version 113 seems to have solved the problem of not staying in standby, but now the system sometimes wakes to a black screen. Somebody here suggested I try the newest network drivers, but it didn't help.

OK, so that rules out one of the possbilities. Where do I go from here? When I go into control panel -> sound and click on the Digital Output Device (HDMI) and configure, I get a box that has speaker setup and show stereo as the only option. The SPDIF shows 5.1. The video card control panel doesn't show anything about sound.

Hi all,

I have built an HTPC with the DG45ID, and there seems to be some video scaling issues. My setup is the following:

HTPC with DG45ID m/b
connected to HK 354 AVR
connected to Epson Home Cinema 1080 projector

I have taken a picture of the video output of the project, see http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink

In this picture, there are three information pages:

- top right is the property page for the Intel driver
- bottom right is the property page of the projector
- left middle is the property page of the HK 354

From this picture, it seems that the HTPC is outputting 1920x1080, the HK says it receiving 1080p, and the projector says its receiving 1125p. I initially thought this was the problem, until I saw this message in the Epson forum that says 1125p is the same 1080p (supposedly a terminology issue with Epson):

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...734929&page=53

You can see the scaling issue in the Intel driver property page, you may need to zoom in real close though. For example, if you look at the words "Enable Rotation" it can be seen most clearly. Can you think of something that could explain this scaling? Thanks.

Has anyone had a problem with live or recorded TV freezing up on them when using the onboard Sound? It happens frequently for me when FastForwarding/rewinding .WTV files in WMC7. When I hit Play again the sound won't come back, and then the video will freeze a second or two later. Restarting WMC won't fix, must be rebooted to get sound back. It happens about 1 out of 5 rewind attempts, enough to take a toll on the WAF.

It's a new build and I haven't installed any codecs, manual registry changes or done anything fancy with it - a very bare system. Here are the specs. I've been searching around but haven't found anyone with the same issue.

DG45ID (using onboard Sound and Gfx, latest drivers for Win7 x64)
Case: Antec Remote Black Fusion (latest IMON drivers)
CPU: Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93GHz 3MB L2 LGA775
Memory: A-DATA ADQVE1B16K DDR2-800 2 x 2GB Kit
HDD: Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB SATA
PSU: Corsair VX450W CMPSU-450VX 450W
OS: Win7 x64 (thinking of trying 32 to see if I have better luck)
Tuner: AVerMedia AVerTVHD Duet PCIe x1 Card (White Box)
Temps are good, ICH is a bit high at 72C, everything else very low.
WHS serving movies, but recorded TV is going to the local Hard Drive
Sound is via SPDIF to Onkyo receiver (TX-DS797)

I'm running low on ideas so any thoughts are welcome. Its a shame b/c everything else is working great so far.

I have the same problem but with channel switching. I thought it was my tuner (using Hauppauge HVR-1250) but it's possible it's something with 7MC. It seems to happen when switching between NTSC and ATSC channels. Maybe it's something with the hybrid tuner switching over? Reocored/time-shifted TV I have no problems.

I think it's hung up once on me when switching channels, but I don't channel surf heavily. Just curious, you using Win7 x64?

One other detail - sometimes when it dies the audio makes a low rumble sound. This is more rare though. Usually the sound will just stop and the video will grind to a halt. When I shutdown, I get the "waiting for iexplorer.exe - playing logoff sound" message, and I have to click on the 'force restart' button.

Yep, Win7 x64 RC. I'm reinstalling things this weekend with the retail version (got my Windows Party Pack in the mail).

DG45ID BIOS version 0117 was released today with the following fixes:

  • Fixed issue where the system would be unrecoverable if unsuitable manual memory settings are used.

  • Fixed issue where system is unable to boot to hard drive when Boot Type is set to Advanced.

  • Fixed issue where Express BIOS Update in silent mode fails in Windows* Vista with Service Pack 2.

  • Fixed issue where the BIOS Setup Compliance Test failed.

  • Fixed issue with POST code 51 when using certain wireless keyboard.
Regarding item #1 (finally! woo hoo!), who wants to be the first canary in the coal mine?

Well, after reading posts from IDT audio driver users in general I just now uninstalled IDT's latest driver and let the windows driver install --- surprise - no more freezing issues with FF/RW(so far). My wife will be thrilled.

Minor annoyance, when I fastforward TV in WMC7, the volume jumps up. Anybody find a way to deal with that?
Upgrade to 0117 did not go as smoothly as expected.

The flash process itself took at least a couple of minutes longer than usual (almost 4 minutes total). Then, after the reboot, the system started to boot with my current settings (I have a RAID1 mirror), then rebooted on its own and applied the default settings (non-RAID). For some unknown reason, I can't get into BIOS setup with my USB keyboard and the default BIOS settings, I have to change the BIOS jumper to force BIOS setup.

After restoring my saved custom settings & rebooting, all the fans remained on high speed. The hardware monitor showed "N/A" for all settings. Basically, the Intel Management Engine wasn't initializing, the ME version showed '0.0.0.0'. Reverting to default BIOS settings didn't fix things. I was about to reflash when I though of completely powering down the mb. This fixed things up after powering back up & rebooting, but I decided to re-enter all the custom BIOS settings instead of loading the saved settings.

Another half hour wasted, but things are back to normal. And, so far, resuming from suspend in Vista 32 has worked successfully 4 times in a row.

Hi all,
Reading the thread from page 60, I finally registered to join your community of DG45ID users.
Sorry, the following is long, because it's a long story.

My system:
DG45ID rev. 308 , E8400 proc. with boxed heat sink / fan,
4 x Corsair PC6400 C5DHX (1,8V) (8GB) , set until now at SPD standard 800MHz.
Corsair VX450 PWS, 2 x Seagate Sata2 disks, Optiarc 7200S burner.
No PCI /PCI-e adapter on board, no BR drive.
USB kbd (IBM) & Mouse (Logitech LS1)
Display: HP 2159m DVI link.
Not using the RAID driver, no matrix driver installed.

Home PC usage: Internet, Office, Photo, video, DVB-T viewing (including HD), not HTPC.
Vista Home Premium 32, (8GB is for Windows 7 coming soon!).
Globally satisfied, except for what concern the long bios story with the same problems described here by other people.

I got the board with bios 0077 Q1-2009 and updated quickly to 0089 in order to (almost) solve the fans problem with spurious up/down RPM.
At this moment I had the bad idea to go and see what about the ME bios extension... did nothing, never restarted.
This was my first experiment of recovery bios 0089.

There was still a noise from inductors (?) when scrolling with the mouse wheel, updated to 0093, then to 0095 bios with no change.
From 0089 to 0095 I had the unexpected wake-up from S3, like a lot of people.

I tried to install bios 0113 from Vista, which gave me the second opportunity to use the recovery CD because the system never restarted after the "update", thanks to the recovery CD.
I read in 0117 bios relnotes that this errata is fixed.

Bios 0113 fixed the noise problem and seems to have fix the unwanted wake-up from S3.

Now, starting with bios 0113, I got the S3-wake-up-with-no-display problem, which can be exit only by powering off / on.
Same result with one kit of 2xDIMM modules, the other one, or both.
I got the problem several times even with latest drivers ( at oct. 11) except Management Engine driver at the previous revision. Maybe I was confused by the revision number from 5.0.2.1129 to 5.2.0.1002 (the latest).

Also starting with bios 0113 spurious voltage alerts from Intel Desktop Utility appeared. These alerts are obviously false ones, because giving the values of 12V voltage for the +5V and so on.

I did not investigate a lot about this.

Yesterday (oct.12) I updated ME driver (to 5.2.0.1002) and also switched the RAM bus timing to 333MHz instead of 400MHz because benchmarking with Passmark gave me very similar results than with 400MHz, some better, some worse.

I again got a no display wake-up. I observed again that reset button does nothing, and with a wattmeter fortunatly installed, I have seen that the system was consuming about 68W while in this strange state, which is just a little more than the typical I read when at Vista desktop. The standby voltage on the DIMM was 1.8V.
The proc. is running, running what ?
Display selection in the bios was set to IGD, but I also had the problem in auto mode in the past.

Now (oct. 13) I just upgraded to bios 0117 using recovery CD .BIO file.
After flash was complete, I powered off, removing also the AC mains, put the jumper back in normal position, and then power on, going to bios setup with F2.
I loaded optimum values to the cmos and did minor changes.
The memory is back to auto SPD 800MHz.
Then Vista 32 boot was ok. (I am not with RAID).
