Set mine up last night, got one NIB off evilbay.
Ran the auto MCAAC and it sounds good right out of the box, made some minor tweeks and it sounds great but I really need to play with it more.

Not sure where the EQ settings are, there are EQ adjustments somewhere right? I also would like to tweak the db setting for each channel.

Watched some SAT/TV sounded good, Apocalypse now was on and the dark low frequency's came through great (helicopters & bombs going off in the distance), ran my Who at Royal Albert Hall DVD that has a great 5.1 mix on it sounded fantastic, finished with a George Winston CD (acoustic piano) that sounded very crisp and better imaged than previous amp.

Like the speaker options, bi-amping and second zone options. I am even using one of the DVR channels for a VCR and sending the rear speakers in the "B" option to my bedroom.

I was just in BB and the factory sticker on the 01 on display claimed "1080P" upscaling. It also has the DCdi logo on the top of the unit.

I just acquired a Pioneer 1018, the sibling to VSX-01. Perhaps someone can answer my question on this forum.

I was under the impression that the receiver would do an on-screen display when I increase the volume or change the surround sound mode using the remote. However, the only time I get the OSD is when I am in the setup menu.

My receiver is behind a cabinet. It would be nice to see the volume level and other things on the screen.

Is there a setting on VSX-01 to make this happen? Perhaps I can try the same setting on 1018.

Had it for 3 1/2 weeks. Haven't run into that! No on-screen display that I know of. Possible through the HDMI control (but that depends on your t.v.).

I guess I should have ask what the upscaling refers to if not converting to 1080P via HDMI? I noticed that the specs on the Pioneer website are not always correct. What's the real story on the upscale of the 01?
I have one other question. I can buy a 91 or the new 01 for a little more. Price is not my main concern. Is the 01 with THX Select 2 Plus, along with other tech advancements the best bet?

Ijust ran the mcacc. my front speakers have a range down to 50-60hz. mcacc sets them to large. I am pretty sure that's wrong. should I set the speakers to small w/ the x over set to 50 hz or leave the speakers large and set the x over to 50 hz. HELP!!!!

If you have a subwoofer... set your fronts to small.

Actually that's what I ended up doing. I came to the realization that MCACC does not set the levels for the sub. Once I did that it turned out that setting the fronts to small and the x-over to 80 hz sounded the best.

Question......can this receiver accept firmware updates.....say via the USB input?

It may never have a firmware update, but you never know.

Does this receiver ( along with the 91 ) allow pure passthrough when using HDMI in and HDMI out? I don't want any degradation in pic quality when using my blu ray or comcast DVR to my 1080p/120hz tv. Thanks.

mcacc also set all my speakers to large sending no LF to the SW

I have two medium sized tower speakers in front so I left them set to large, changed the surrounds and center to small, now have signal to sub.

Also manually adjusted distance and db settings to my taste.

So far it sounds great, I am having fun playing with it and I would recommend this amp to anybody.

Still haven't found any eq adjustment. Anyone know how to tweek the tone on this thing?

I believe Eq adjustments are under "Manual MCACC". Good luck with that. The manual mine as well as be written in Spanish. I got my 01 to sound fantastic with a few tweeks. My B&w's have come alive!!!

Question for all you 01/03 owners out there...

I have an 03 connected to my Pio 111, with HDMI control on.

My 03 receiver powers on to the last input setting (HDMI 1), then mysteriously always changes to the TV input (i think it's the s-video 1). I don't have anything connected to the TV input, so it is really annoying having to pull out the stupid remote and change it back to HDMI 1 every time I want to watch directv. I wish it would just stay on the last setting. Anyone else notice this, or have a workaround?

My connections are:
directv dvr connected to 03 receiver, via HDMI input 1.
Receiver is connected to pio 111 on HDMI input 4.

You need to connect your component out from the sat box to your AVR, MacGuyPA. Then program the TV input to the component IN you plugged in to for HDMI Control to work. You will have to put a toslink or coax from your sat box to the AVR as well.

Another question, any of you 01 owners using and ipod with it? My buddy just got an 01, and he has an ipod, but it just seems to hang with 'loading'.....

He's not getting any errors or anything, just not getting past the loading part where it's suppose to syncronize....

What ipod version is he using?

I just ordered an Emotiva UPA-7 amplifier and I'm excited to pair it up with my 01. It's not that I was unhappy with the amp in the 01, I just wanted to try a separate amplifier to see what all the fuss is about. I'm out of town on business for a while, but when I have a chance to hook it up, I'll let you know how the 01 works as a pre/pro.

Does anyone know of the advantages of the 03 besides one more HDMI and the "HDMI Jitter" thing?

Understood, howellk.. it's still only one HDMI cable to the display.. the component wiring is necessary because the "tv" function button will only accept that under HDMI Control. If you do not use HDMI control, then the "tv" function should be able to be programmed to accept the HDMI input. Weird, I know.

I currently have a 5.1 speaker setup with Paradigm Atoms v.3 for my mains, CC-170 Center with ADP-170 for the surround and PDR-10 for my sub. These were previously powered by the non-Elite VSX-1014TX before the receiver died on me a couple months back.

CHP VR, thanks for your suggestion. After I set the input for TV to HDMI 1, do I still need the components, or can a unhook them?

Also, any idea is hooking up an SR cable will still allow me to still have the receiver turn on and off and have volume control that the HDMI control allowed?

Finally, Im satisfied!!! I've been back and forth to BB/Mag for days. I originally purchases the VSX-918 for the HDMI, but them came to relize that I need more than what that AVR had to offer. Then I decided to spend a bit more cash and get the VSX-1018. I hooked it up, but had issues with the HDMI passthrough. So tonight in a frenzy (Getting to Mag b4 9pm) I decided to get the VSX-01TXH. From everything I hear it's a great AVR. I hope I made the right decision. My wallet took a big hit these past few weeks, thank god for OT!

Just a word of advice for those people looking to buy this AVR, if you go to BB/Mag don't ever pay the $849 price tag. If you go to the Pioneer website you will see the MSRP price of $750. I'm not sure what the heck BB/Mag is thinking inflating the price of this reciever $100, but all you have to do is talk to a manager and show them the website, I did tonight and they matched Pioneers MSRP. Funny thing, I was talking to a guy and he said there REP sets the prices. It may not be BB/Mag thats doing it, it could be Pioneer scammin you.

Just be blunt with them with the price. They have to go by that $750 MSRP price tag.

My 01 was sitting on my front porch waiting for me last night, begging to be set up. I removed my 4 year old HK and placed the new Elite in the cabinet.

Spent a few minutes getting the basic connection ready just so could watch some tv last night before fully setting it up this weekend.

I have a Cox Cable HD DVR with HDMI, ran that to the 01, then the HDMI from the 01 to my Sammy 52". I could only get video. But when I hit the OSD button, the video would go away to bring up the OSD and then the audio would come on. After messing with it for half an hour I ran component and dig coax from the DVR to the 01 just so I could watch tv.

Anyone have any ideas why i cannot get my HDMI from cable > 01 > tv working?

I have a 01 and follow this thread, but I think it's a good idea as there isn't a 03 thread yet (AFAIK).
