True, but I watch almost all the stuff on HBO, figured he may have seen it and did not notice her.

I guess my comment was lost on you guys...I know that she's been in alot of movies before but "I never really noticed her" in any of those (i.e. she wasn't that noticeable). Here, she is.

There was also the matter of that little golden statuette she won as Best Supporting Actress for The Piano back in '83. I think maybe the youngest ever...? That's the sort of thing that usually gets you noticed.

Was she wearing those short and tight little numbers in that one too? Something tells me not.

Ana Paquin was also one of the 'band-aids' in Almost Famous.

Well, her Oscar for The Piano was in '93 not '83 (yeah she really would have been the youngest ever if she had got it when she was a toddler ) but I've always wanted to see her on the first day of filming X-Men, walking on set flashing her Oscar at Patrick Stuart and Ian McKellan going, "What, you guys ain't got one of these?"

So you're not impressed with talent only with T&A?

Hey, I'm in the True Blood thread, aren't I?

But no, not just that...she just never stood out before in any of the films I've seen her in. I've never seen The Piano though.

The young (10 or 11) Paquin was brilliant in The Piano. Nevertheless, I thought the move was a self-regarding downer, which largely wasted Paquin and the equally wonderful Holly Hunter. I saw it, but once was more than enough for me.

The first I remember seeing her was in Hurly Burly, then Almost Famous.

Wasn't lost on me, I know exactly what you mean. While I knew who she was, and have seen her in other things, I don't recall her ever making as much an impression on me as she is in this role, not only does she have the physical looks, she's an incredible actress, her facial expressions and delivery are one of the very best attributes of True Blood.

This show must be cheap to produce.

It appears to be inexpensive, we've only seen a few locations, and it's primarily character driven. The CGI(I'm guessing they use CGI for the vamp effects) is probably the most expensive aspect of the show.

OTOH, HBO may renew everything in hopes of getting back that one, or two, water-cooler show they used to have. Showtime is eating their lunch big-time.

lol at you guys arguing gay or racial metaphors. The show is just a reflection of reality. If vampires showed up , they'd have to endure the same xenophobia any minority/sex/religious group etc. has to deal with in modern society.

You do realize that you just agreed that the show is a metaphor, don't you?

Yes, it is a joyful parody of the history of persecution of metaphors in America.

Last night was interesting...I'm glad they aren't taking the whole premise too seriously...

I have no idea where this show is going though...it seems like it lacks direction and is not really going anywhere...

I saw hints of the Politcal agenda and the infighting it causes
They hinted at the true Blood may not be all its cracked up to be.
Sookie's Brother is being 'targeted'
Straight guys will dance for Gay men over V Juice.

About sums it up

Anybody else disappointed in the apparent demise of Dawn? Gonna miss seeing her.

But it's not specific to anything other than xenophobia in general.

Which, in all likelihood, would be the reality.

My point was that the logic behind linking it solely to homosexuals or race is just as silly as saying the vampires are a metaphor for midgets or albinos.

And if the show had a midget albino writer and featured midget albino characters then that might be more likely.

In this case we have a gay writer, a show which uses spins on well known phrases and slogans such as "God hates fags" and "coming out of the closet," openly gay human characters and last night, gay sexual content, that hardly counts a "silly."

Especially when almost every media outlet that's covered the show broaches the same questions about the subject.
