I have the same problem. 3 out of 4 HDMI ports are not working suddenly. And there was some lightning around a few days ago. Sucks now that I have to replace this.

Hey yall. I own the Avr-889, and would like to use a the room-to-room control. I have tried using infrared extensions, but to no avail, which leads me to believe I need to have a powered infrared extender. Manual is useless in this matter, anyone on here have any experience?

The IR Extender would be plugged in to the IN jack (see image below) and does need to have a powered transmitter in the other room. Not all extenders will work correctly, so you may need to go through a few to accomplish your goal.

I can recommend this product for a powered IR extender: http://www.amazon.com/C2G-40430-Acoustics-Infrared-Repeater/dp/B001BLTDZA/

It's inexpensive and of good quality. Add a mono mini jack cable and you can plug in from any of the "blaster" outputs straight into the jack in the back of your AVR.

I used this successfully with my 2310ci so it should work fine with your 889. Some users have reported issues with this unit and newer models (Denon has changed their IR codes around since then), but the codes for the xx9 models are the same as the xx10 so I am confident it will work on your unit.

I screwed up my harmony remote and the profile at logitec for the 2309 does not have the audssey commands like midnight etc.I need to reprogram but I need a link to a profile at harmony that has the additional commands like mult EQ Multi vol etc. Can You guys help? I like to push the activity in blue ray and get the reciever to go to plII and evening automatically like it did before but none or those commands are available and I hate to spend 15 hours reading the old Denon manual:eek:

unfortunately none of the Harmony profiles will have Day/Evening/Midnight discrete commands pre-loaded. The basic profile should have control buttons for cycling through MultEQ modes (Audyssey > Audyssey FLAT > etc) and Dyn EQ/Vol (Dyn EQ/Vol OFF > Dyn EQ ON > Dyn EQ+Vol ON) but there won't be direct commands for the Dyn Vol modes.

the easiest way to get the Day/Eve/Mdnt discretes into your profile is to have Harmony tech support at it to the device profile for you. See this post for more info: http://batpigworld.com/wp/?p=106

Thanks I read about combining profiles but I don't remember how I found this out before. I think you may have given me a profile about 3 years ago that had 13 pages. The current profile has but 11 so the profile for another model (don't remember) probably had these programmed by Logitec. It has been 3.5 years so a lot of water has gone under the bridge. I will go back and search some post for the 1909 and maybe the link will be there.

generallee -- the old link you are referring to was a list of commands I had in my Harmony account, and Logitech probably copied over for you into your account. I actually took this page down because I received many emails from users that Logitech tech support either wasn't complying, or wasn't copying all the commands.

I strongly recommend you do it the new way as described in the link I posted above. Either way, you will have to contact tech support, and this method (sending them the codes directly) is more reliable.

Boo Hoo....I liked those commands and they really worked for me. I don't even remember how to find them on my Denon 2309CI remote which I dug out of the bottom of the drawer. I don't see anything on the remote that resembles Day, Evening, Midnight so now I have to dig in the closet to find the */(# manual. I guess it is a toggle hidden somewhere in the bowles of the -*/!@#$%^ remote. frown.gif.
Too bad Logitec took down the profile. Since my remote is an old 880 I doubt if L* will give me any support.

OMG, I found the manual and after reading page 50 about a dozen times, I threw the manual across the room, stuck my finger down my throat and puked. It told me that day, evening, and midnight were selectable.......but did not say HOW? As I recall, I was told that the manual was written in Nippon then transulated to Greek then to English.
Can anyone give me a KISS guide for dummies?

I went back to Batpigs write up on harmony remotes and followed his directions to add the Denon 4311 profile to the devices then added the multiEQ and DynamicEQ to the profile and as BP mentions that these harmony buttons will cycle through the different modes for these activities. I have tried using these toggles but they don't change except going through the audysey (4)modes.......but what I don't understand is why I can't do the same with the my Denon remote. With the Denon remote I must go to the parameters screen then do the toggle on that screen. That is way too slow when spouse is yelling to turn down the sound. Since nothing appears on the Denon screen about the mode and a green/red light to show off or on I am not sure which parameter I have selected.. I still don't get the day,evening,midnight. I can not find the profile in the 4311ci for DynamicVOL. The only way I can see to do this might be to try to record a sequance because the commands are not there. Anybody?

Dude, that's what I already told you. The Day/Evening/Midnight discretes do not exist on the factory remotes OR in the default Harmony device profiles (because they are set up to mimic the factory remotes).

In the meantime, why don't you just set Dyn Vol to "Evening" which is a nice all-around setting, and then just use the Dyn EQ/Vol toggle to cycle between Dy nEQ+Vol OFF > Dyn EQ On / Vol OFF (red light) > Dyn EQ+Vol ON (green light) ? That is the simplest way to have quick one button control... although you can't toggle between the three Dyn Vol modes you can use it as an "on/off switch".

Thanks BP. That sounds like a solution. I broke my hearing aids and won't get my new one's till Nov 20 so evening might work. I will follow your link and email (beg) Harmony.. BTW, I found out how to keep my 880 charging. The gold wears off the cradle pins but a quick disassemble>flux>drop of solder quickly gets remote charging again.

yeah, that's why I dumped my 880. The charging cradle sucked... and I hated the "clicky" buttons. The newer Harmony One (or even the contemporary 720) are much better IMO.

I will keep that in mind since I have 2 880's (one working and one with a button stuck). The One would probably work for me but as I reccall the 720 has but 5 activities and I still have a turrntable and laserdisk/cd player attached plus D* and 2 blue ray's, so I would be at the limit.

Some how I missed the command codes when searching before so thanks for the Link. I copied the one's I wanted into notepad then pasted them into my email to Logitec support.

I note that when I turned on my Denon before I messed with my profile I formerly got as default PLII Cinema when I tuned in Netflix but now I get DTS Cimema when I use either my blue ray or new Playstation3 (which has more apps to get from the net such as Amazon. Does it matter? II am running a 5-1 Denon 3290CI. and a Logitec playstation 3 adaptor to translate the harmony commands
Which I still love.

DTS Neo Cinema and Dolby PLII Cinema sound (to my ears at least) almost identical. It's easy to switch back though.

I went to Harmony and they would not add codes as Out of date warrantee. I tried calling paid support but after 15 minutes of listening music, i hung up.

I was wondering if I buy a new (or refurb) remote from them if they will add codes for me or just give standard support???? I have put the Denon in evening mode for now.
My new hearing aids are supposed to arive on the 20th. With TV background noise and music drown out speech so i have to be able to turn center channel up to understand. products in 5-1 like Hawaii 5.0 that have annoying background noise I have to turn off. people with normal hearing probably don't have this problem.

I was wondering if there other remote mfg that provide a better prroduct at a resonable price?

I really appreciate the link. When I called Harmony they said they would do the customization free on a new remote but otherwise it would be a paid service. They also told me the pronto codes needed to be in a excel spread sheet. The problem that I had when trying to add the codes is that leading zero's when entered into Excell are not displayed. Can you tell me how you did this? I tried to import the codes by HML but that did not work. your help is appreaciated....Thanks

Text does not work correctlyl. I have inserted commas in all blank spaces with word then saved the file as a txt file. After opening the text file >highlighting the data>Control C>start excel>Control v>selecting delimited >comma + text the first column comes in as text but then excel converts the remaining columns back to general.

the difficulty is not with text but is with putting each text into individual cells.
