LCD 3:2 vs DVD 3:2

I read a lot of complaints about the A550 having bad judder due to bad 3:2 pulldown, but if you have a decent DVD player, shouldn't the DVD player be doing the conversion and sending a native signal to your TV? Someone enlighten me please.

Thanks

Either device can do it; pick the one that does it best.

I understand that, but I want to know why people care that a display can't do proper pulldown, when their DVD player can probably do a better job. The reason I ask is because a lot of people complain about the pulldown process in certain displays, so it must be a big issue. Does everyone try both?

Well for one, not all DVD players or other devices (such as cable or satellite boxes) can output a progressive signal, especially for HD. So if you are stuck with 480i or 1080i output only, your set's IVTC/deinterlacing capability is very important.

Also, it's not necessarily true that all DVD players are better than all displays at IVTC/deinterlacing. You have to experiment to see what's best in your setup.
