Anyone in US tried 1.73 yet? If so, what were your results? I assume update is just a playability issue with certain new release BR's? Thanks.

I've only done one update that wasn't US and it went OK (they say there the same). If I'm not having a problem I just wait for the US update to come out. It'll probably be out in a couple weeks.

Just updated my 05-FD to 1.73...working great!

I'll update it again once the US version of 1.73 comes out...I'm OCD like that, and have done it this way for the past several releases.

I'm gonna wait... After 1.71 was released, there was issues on some Blu-Rays from Sony until 1.72 was released to fix the bugs that 1.71 introduced. Unless I find playback issues with 1.72 I'm going to hold off loading 1.73...

Yup. I don't think we're looking at any feature/performance improvements at this point. I think it's strictly playability at this point.

I am having trouble with the sound on Mission Impossible "Ghost Protocol". It sounds like clipping noises, the tracks are not in the correct "placement" and the volume is unstable to put it mildly.

Do you think the 1.73 with "fix" this?

Has anyone else had similiar issues with this Blu-ray release playing it in a BDP-05?

Would you mind sharing those "different reasons" with both of us. I would like to know because I might like to own both also, thank you.

I am on 1.73 and watched MI4 without any problems with audio.

Exact same version, just different sites.

@Jon S, playability of newer disc releases.

It makes a difference to some people. It's pointless and not informative to argue.
Not arguing, he asked if anyone was going to be first and I just pointed out that 2 posts above his was someone who did.

That I know, but what releases is my question... I have not had any issues so far with new releases.
Before anyone asks, I compared the files (BDP20A_V173.ZIP) from European and US sites, and they are bit for bit identical, as usual.

Dan.

Talked to my dealer... He talked to Pioneer USA... He said they told him they will no longer support the BDP05/51/09 players... Assume it also means the earlier models as well. I know that Pioneer has had major cuts in staff, maybe this is the result of said cuts.

I would take this info with a grain of salt. Pioneer USA has said other things in the past that turned out not to be true.

Time will tell.
+1, Especially as it relates to firmware, which originates in Japan.

Did your dealer also make a kind and benevolent offer to sell you a replacement?

I would suggest, a company that stops firmware support for their machines would only put a nail in their coffin in regards to future sales. Why would one invest in a companies blu-ray product if the company demonstrated abandonment of firmware upgrades for legacy product given blu-ray's dependency of this ritual?

Now, not having repair parts for "end of life machines" defined as some reasonable time past the warranty period is understandable.

I believe U.S. law is 7 years from when the product is discontinued.
