Madden 09 Full Game Impressions

First of all, I'm loving the highlights (had to delete some to make room for new ones):

http://www.easportsworld.com/en_US/video/169177

Secondly, I'm more and more impressed by this game the more that I play it. I've mentioned before the database issues that this is my first 360 Madden and the presentation alone makes it much better than the older ones I've played. Also, the commentary is not nearly as bad as early videos made it seem. The gameplay is different from what I'm used to on the Xbox and Wii, but after getting adjusted to the playbooks, I like it. I also definitely like the Madden IQ feature with the auto-adjusting difficulty, but it negatively adjusts me too much for a few mistakes when I've played great the rest of the game. The Backtrack replay is awesome though. Rewind is kind of annoying but you can't use it in online play anyway. All in all, I'm loving this game.

(Though, it seems like everyone online so far always picks the same teams, usually the ones with ratings in the 90s, which puts me at a major disadvantage being a Jets fan).

get used to people always coming across the same teams online. Some people are just front runner lovers. I usually try and play balanced games online and will pick a team that matches my opponents teams ranking online.

Hit me up sometime for a game GT= coffeemugg

GO PHINS!!!!!

lots of people have the game by way of mom and pop shops. In fact yesterday I decided to stop at one and both my brother and I picked up a copy of Madden 09.

Besides the fact I bought it through a friend who is the manager of a game store. A little shady, yes, because he's not supposed to have sold it yet, illegal, no.

Anyway, Head Coach is horribly boring to me. I liked the original much better than this one. I tried it out yesterday and if it wasn't included in the Collector's Edition I wouldn't get it. It just seems even more boring than the original if that's possible, and doesn't look nearly as nice as Madden. Also, when I tried it out last night and went online, they still didn't have the Favre update on the roster, even though Madden did. A lot of my videos are with Pennington because I couldn't figure out how to update the rosters manually in Madden. In Head Coach, there's a specific option to update rosters, in Madden, you just have to start an online game and they update. They still have Pennington on Free Agents and not on the Dolphins yet though in both.

Also, Madden 93 on the Collector's Edition is neat for nostalgia reasons (though its the Genesis version and I had the SNES version) but I doubt anyone will be able to play it for more than 5 minutes without wanting to go to the real game.

Is there any achievements for the Head Coach since it is supposed to be integrated into Madden?

Yes, Head Coach has its own set of Achievements. Its not integrated into Madden, its its own disc from the Collector's Edition.

22 achievements for 1000 points.

Head Coach 09 is only part of the Collector's Edition. Besides that, it's really its own separate game, so I wouldn't expect it to be in a Madden review.

I wonder if its worth the CE.... depending on some other reviews I may end up getting this friday and may get the CE if its worth it, and if it happens to be there.

That was a big time block in the back on your second highlight

Game is great, been playing for the past week. I love it. It finally has presentation. Gameplay finally good. I really dig.

Hey does it have a mode like Legend mode in NCAA where you pick a player and try to play him through a bunch of seasons? And can you use the exported NCAA 09 legend?

Yes, its called Superstar mode, and yes you can import your NCAA 09 legend (as well as import the draft class from NCAA each year).

Here's the replacement cover officially from EA:

Collector's Edition: 9.1 http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/898/898076p1.html
Regular Edition: 8.8 http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/898/898052p1.html

(The only difference between the two reviews are the last two paragraphs in the Collector's Edition one.)

I can't wait....my copy is being delivered to my house today, while I am stuck at work. Hopefully the day will go by fast and the football will go by slow.

Don't think so.
What about multiple ppl online playing:

A) same team against the computer(from two different xboxes with valid gtags)
b) playing on the same team in a league.(again 2 dif xboxes and valid gts)
Can anyone confirm custom teams in Online Leagues, and if you have the option to customize logos/uniforms?
I plan on waiting a week or two until the honeymoon reviews wear off. I'm just interested in knowing if it's substantially better than ncaa, or suffers from the same AI problems.

new to madden. how do you update rosters so that favre is on the jets?
Living in the NYC every major is release has been sold days before its street date. This is going back to the beginning of videogame history.

And there has NEVER been someone banned for playing the legal version of the game early.

Where people get confused is that there have been hacked demos or pirated copies.. mostly software that can be downloaded off the internet. And if you get caught playing those online.. you will be banned.

Legal copies.. never.

Madden will sell a good 6 million copies.. they could care less that 10,000 people out of that 6 million bought and played it a few days early. It wouldnt even be worth the legal trouble trying to catch them.

just sign into the game and then go online, assuming you have xbl
post #28 of 186
I'm probably way late on this or maybe I'm just missing something, but when did they take out Al Michaels and John Madden commentary in the game?
I know that was the case for Madden 07 and 08.
I haven't picked up this year's Madden yet to see if it's still around.

Yeah, there's no actual "Update Rosters" button, but just start an online game, or create a custom session and it'll update your rosters while its waiting for people to join.

In this game, Madden has a very small part in the commentary. He basically is the person in the studio that sends it out to Collinsworth and Hammond in the stadium. They come back to him at halftime and the end of the game, but he doesn't say much.
