Moxi vs DCH-3416

I currently have the Moxi but might upgrade (or downgrade?) to DCH-3416. I got used to the format of Moxi and its pretty neat. i do however would like to use the HDMI connection and use a bigger HD which is the reason i might switch to 3416. However, if the Moxi box is a lot more better in terms of ease of use, no freezing, and features, then i don't mind staying with Moxi. I also like the fact that i could scroll through the channels w/o actually changing it by using the directional buttons. I noticed that the DCH-3416 directional buttons control the live tv rewind/forward/play/pause function. Is there way to change this? Should i stick to Moxi or does the DCH-3416 does a lot better overall?

Not sure where you are are what guide software would be used, but it's iGuide on the DCH series in most markets.

In my opinion, the MOXI software was superior in every aspect when compared to iGuide. The 9012 was an inferior box, but they did add external storage with 4.1 (which my market never got).

You can scroll through a "mini-guide" at the bottom of the screen with iGuide - no worries there.

Have you thought about TiVo?

I have TWC Southern CA and i believe they use iGuide. We have a non HD downstairs and it seems unresponsive and slow at times. So should i decide on the box based on the software? How about picture quality? Is it significant between the 2? If both are similar in terms of features, then i prefer the Moxi software. Haven't really thought of Tivo. Would i need both the cable box and tivo? or does it work alone?

also, are u able to record by setting time frame, instead of the whole segment. For example, I just want to record the basketball part of the olympics, so i would like to set 2am-4am instead of recording the whole olympics. Reason is space.

I didn't notice a difference in PQ, but using HDMI did clean up the cables quite a bit MOXI has more features than iGuide, but iGuide will generally do what you need it to do (pause, rewind, record).

I had to trade in my MOXI because the drive was too small and we weren't going to get the 4.1 software which allowed external drives.

I still have a DCH3416 in the bedroom for VOD or in case SDV hits before the tuning resolver, but I much prefer TiVo.

The TiVo HD just requires a cablecard from your cable company to work. You can add external storage, schedule from the web, download videos from Amazon, etc. Watch out for SDV - check your local thread. TWC is aggressive with the roll out from my understanding; and until the tuning resolver is released, you might not be able to get all their channels with TiVo.

Yes, both iGuide and TiVo allow you to set up manual recordings.

hmm, i can't figure out how to do manual recording for the Moxi.

I never got the 4.1 update that was to include this; what version do you have?
