I thought that I had the same issue with VUDU. NetflixHD streaming would capture in HD but Vudu would only do SD. I found that if I viewed VUDU on the computer, and on the TV, it would downgrade to SD.

But, when I viewed a different input on the TV (like Comcast), I would be able to record VUDU HD on the computer.

I hope that this makes sense and helps.

The only way around this problem is to purchase a product like the HD Fury. The HD Fury connects to the HDMI connection, supports HDCP and will convert that signal to a HD component signal which can be sent to the 1212.

OP, are you using a Sony Blu-ray player to access Amazon by any chance?

I had the same problem with a 2010 model Sony Blu-ray player. using component cables. The 2010 player should have been able to play HD content over component since it pre-dated the 01/01/2011 mandate for no HD over analog connections. It would play Blu-ray discs in HD over component, but not Amazon streaming. Amazon always switched to SD while the HD movie loaded. Amazon video customer service claimed they are not doing anything to prevent HD over component cables and said it may be something Sony does when you register the player with Sony to obtain access to web content.

I looked at the HDFury, but ended up getting the ViewHD product, which is quite a bit less expensive and does the same thing -- HDMI in and component out. It also has audio in and out (optical and stereo RCA). Here is a link to it at Amazon.

Slight retraction: the 1212 works best with 22 AWG component cables, as opposed to 18 AWG (see above). Sorry for the confusion. Shows what chemotherapy can do to your judgement.

Monoprice has great service, and of course, products.

I don't know and can't find any information that indicates whether the ViewHD product is HDCP complient or not. If it is not, once HDCP is fully implemented, the signal sent to the ViewHD will not be HD.

The HDFury is HDCP complient and will allow a HDCP enabled broadcasts to be delivered to the HDFury and out the component cables at full HD.

YES, the ViewHD box in the link above works fine with HDCP content, I have 2 of them and they work with HDMI from Blu-Ray players and HDMI from my WD Live Hub while streaming Netflix. The technical details in the link above state that it works with HDCP content sources. The LED lights on the HDMI inputs glow red when streaming non-HDCP content and then turn blue when HDCP content is streamed through the HDMI ports. You don't need to pay the higher price of the HDFury these work fine and I am picky about this stuff.

I lost my disc and am trying to make a dvd before xmas. When I try to select a source in the Arcsoft Totalmedia extreme program nothing shows up. I know the HD PVR is working cause its passing signal threw to my tv. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What to do?
I would try to uninstall, then reload Totalmedia. You should be able to download it from the website without paying for it again. I never got a disc from them; I downloaded the executable file and kept a copy of the file on my desktop.

For anyone who might care, I was having difficulty with Arcsoft TotalMedia's AVCHD disc burning program spitting out "coasters", a month or two ago. Nikknightt was kind enough to suggest alternative programs that indeed worked, and were even faster, but I still missed the simplicity of having just one program meet all my needs.

I have come to discover that although I had updated the Arcsoft software to their latest version, since it automatically prompts me when available, I failed to update the HDPVR's drivers at the same time, which I have now corrected (by right clicking it in Device Manager I see it is now: 1.6.29277.0 ). There was a minor alteration in recent months (if there's some "auto notification of upgrades" feature for that one, please let me know!). I believe it also corrects an incorrect remaining time indication in some media players, including WMC.

Since updating the drivers I have now successfully made a 2hr AVCHD disc!

The only problem with updating the driver to 1.6.29277.0 is if you use 64 bit Windows 7, there is no Video Encoder tab in properties. See post 2681.

^Although you can still set constant vs. variable bitrate, and the the value of the bitrate, .2 -13.5 Mbps, you seem to only lose the ability to differentiate the relative values of the peak vs. average values when using variable, only. Personally, that's not a feature I've ever had occasion to feel I was a better judge of setting than the video engineers who designed this thing and who have selected a default value I am quite comfortable with, so it's no big deal for me, but thanks.

Has anybody had an issue with Total Media Theater?
The app wont start up for me. I've tried from TME and going directly into the folder in which it resides. Everything else within TME starts fine..

I sometimes use VLC but VLC doesn't show the menu page on an avchd disc made with multiavchd. SO i kind of need TMT.

Boxee can offset audio, and remembers the offset, but it is sometimes quite large, 2-3.5 SECONDS!

And my experimental setup(s) have yet to capture 5.1 audio from any source.
Using TS or M2TS instead of MP4 has resolved that issue

*is there a more user-friendly front end scheduler than Titan TV/WinTV?
Still don't like Titan/Win TV but getting used to the quirks.

Blaster config app does not have the SA4250HDC set top box in its list.
Still no joy with powerup command; workaround is to leave STB "on" all the time. Has anyone sucessfully paired the 1212 with the SA4250HDC?

Thanks for your time,

Mike

The end product is very good to excellent. I have been using the default 9.0 Mb record rate, but tests at 6.5Mb show no obvious flaws. Working on a scheme to get the WHS server to automatically pull the 1212 recordings off the PC C drive in the background so I don't have to manually copy them over. Having fun learning, the hard way.

I never use it but I just tried it out to see if it was working , per your question. It seems to open and then successfully play an .AVI file I had handy.

I'm finally going to upgrade to making blu-ray discs instead of avchd.
I plan on using multiavchd to author the BD becuz of the many titles I will have compiled and need a menu.

Bpratt or anybody, Is multiavchd still a good way to do this?
Does it matter if I use m2ts or ts files?

Some of the discs I will make will be compiled from m2ts files already authored on avchd discs.
thanks
What's the best way to burn the BD? ImgBurn?
Does it need special settings like avchd does? udf 2.5 ?
Any tips would be helpful.
thanks.
Good question nik. I was thinking about getting one of these units and burn HD from cable STB to BR disk to play on my BR player.

Ck. on some past post and it seems multiavchd seems a little too complex, tsmuxer is something else mentioned, but cant seem to find anything specific. Having to comb through 91 pgs is daunting...

The beauty of Imgburn, besides being free, is its simplicity and hand holding. If you were to attempt to burn in the wrong formating system (sorry if that's not the exact term, but I think you know what I mean) it will promt you with, "I couldn't help but notice you are attempting to burn a bluray, yet you aren't in UDF 2.5, would you like me to correct that for you?"...also "I couldn't help but notice you haven't entered a title for this disc, but based on the file name, would like me to override that and title it 'Titanic' ?"

IIRC, it also gives you, "To increase compatibility, might I suggest you allowing me to add all the extra empty folders and subfolders structuring that make the bluray more compatible with certain playback machines?"

This saves a lot of time because otherwise I have to come back to this thread and look up what they are, each time, since it is infrequent that I burn BD and I forget the exact structure.

I always use .ts files, but I think m2ts would work just as well.

I still use multiavchd to create my blu-ray images on the hard disk of my computer. I have tried many other programs and multiavchd is a bit complex to use, but it processes faster than any other program I've used, and it always creates good output. I then burn the blu-ray disk using TEMPGEnc Authoring works 4 since I own a copy of that program and it works well.

I posted the steps I use to create a blu-ray or AVCHD image using multiavchd in post # 2503.

It doesn't matter because MultiAVCHD will put output video into M2TS container because this is container used on Blu-ray disks. I attached two .INI settings files for MultiAVCHD that might help you to get going. Just change extensions from ZIP to INI. Then when you start the program go to Settings tab, click Load Settings button and load any of those INI files.

Yes, ImgBurn is the best burning application in the world, it is the only one I use to burn everything.

Thanks. multiavchd isn't so bad once you use it a few times.
I use it now for avchd.

Thanks for the multiavchd settings.
I checked them out & they look like settings for just menu & audio options.. Do some of the settings have to do with making BD compliant files also? Because I think I would change some of those to my preferences instead.. (menu)

My modified settings were based on default settings. My main goal was to modify SLIDE main menu, one static, one with motion thumbnails. And most important for me was to relocate four navigation buttons and the way you cycle through them with arrow keys on your remote control. I don't think I modified anything in terms of audio.

Your video files should be compliant before you load them into MultiAVCHD. Otherwise it will have to re-encode them.

How much usable space is a 25gb BD blank?

I know that a 4.7gb dvd is about 4.35
8.5gb is about 8.1
About 23.86 GByte anf 47.36 for DL and I think the erasable ones are a little less space.

I have been creating a menu for multiAVCHD by importing a .jpg file I create with a title. I would be interested in learning how you get the menus you use. I noticed one of the lines in your script points to a "menu project" area. Can you explain how you create these menus or where you get them? Also, is there some documentation somewhere that explains the lines in the script files?

I use two approaches to create JPG file for the main menu.

First, I play video, that I am going to use to author BD disk, in MPC (Media Player Classic) and pause at the frame that has title for that video and then capture that frame in JPG format. Then I may or may not edit that JPG image in PaintShop Pro.

Second, I create menu from scratch with 1920x1080 image size in PaintShop Pro and save it as JPG image.

Then I load that JPG into MultiAVCHD.

That “menus-projects” area is just the folder on the hard drive.

You don’t have to worry about lines inside INI file. This file is automatically saved/updated when you click “Save Settings” button under “Settings” tab.

nevermind, found it..

It is very basic BD/AVCHD authoring without any menus, just straight title playback. MultiAVCHD uses TsMuxer for multiplexing during authoring process.
