Plasma Flicker Issue--Help!

Does anyone know what causes this and/or how to fix it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksj7TMgcKJQ

The screen cuts to black intermittently for a split second and then returns to normal.

I have a 50-inch Philips plasma -- 50PFP5332D and I'm hooked up through basic composite audio/video cables to a standard definition directv box. I'm moving soon, so I'm using the standard def box temporarily until I get an HD box.

I dont get any flicker when playing PS3 games or blu ray discs . . . Will this problem disappear once I'm hooked up to an HD signal through an HDMI cable?

The engineer at Philips who designed that set wouldn't know what causes it. A repair shop that services nothing but Philips sets wouldn't know it either - they would just swap boards until the problem goes away. Why would you think that anyone here can diagnose your set? Suppose someone writes back and says "it is probably the xyz module". Are you going to order it and install it yourself? If you get any responses they will be of the "I would call Philips" category. Just watch.

How can anybody predict what your defective set will do if you use the HDMI cable? If you are interested in the outcome, why didn't you try it?

I'm pretty sure from the video this isn't a flicker issue. Something is much more serious than flicker.

If someone had experienced the same issue, they would clearly be able to provide input. Don't ya think? Yeah, I thought so.

From my standpoint, ramazur, , I just purchased the television & want to find out whether it's a problem I should address with Philips immediately or whether I can wait until I move and get connected to an HD source to see if the problem resolves itself.

Thanks in advance to others that might provide input.

Thanks for your thoughts, oldcband. Yeah, I know "flicker" is a term of art used to describe an effect that is seen on HDTV's and my problem is not applicable in that regard. I just didn't know how else to describe the issue besides to call it a "black flicker."

If you don't get any flicker from your other two HD sources, I would think that the problem will go away when you get your HD box.
