Dual Core is a term referring to, basically in english, two chips (aka: CPU Core's) on one physical chip....quad core is a term referring to four chips (aka: CPU Cores) on one physical chip.FOR INTEL:
Core2Duo is Intels latest version of a dual core chip.
Core2Quad is Intels latest version of a 4 core chip.
Intel originally made dual-core Pentiums and Dual-Core chips before the Core2Duo and Core2Quad chips came out.....they were serious underperformers, thats why Intel wanted to change the name and architecture of the new chips to let people know these new dual core chips (The Core2's) were a whole new animal.
