AudioAccess W.H.E.N.??? What do you think?

Hi,

I found a short thread here from last year about the AudioAccess W.H.E.N. (Whole House Entertainment Network) system but no one had actually used one at that time.

It looks decent on paper. Distributed audio, intercom, 7.1 surround, etc. But, I only found one review (also from last year) and the reviewer sorta liked it although he said the keypad scrolls crazy slow through the IPod menu and....no audio server (but one "on the way" although last I checked there was still not one listed at the AudioAccess site).

Anyone have one of these? Or even just seen and used one?

Never mind.

Finally got with AudioAccess tech support. Fyi (in case anyone else cares):

1. No music server on the horizon

2. Keypad lagging with aDock (IPod dock) "under technical review for a possible fix". (doesn't sound too encouraging, does it?)

Too bad. Looked like a nice idea.

The WHEN system is one of the most advanced DIY multi-room systems on the market.

Some of the features are:

1. 100 watts per zone (50w x2 @8ohms).
2. Intercom
3. Security Camera distribution
4. Composite video distribution
5. Can be set up for component video distribution
6. Door strike functions
7. 7.1 receiver in the package (good power output too)
8, Multiple colors for keypads
9. Line level in and out from each keypad (think of using this as a local source, audio distribution to receivers/pre-amps or for use with power amps [great for outdoors] - also passes digital audio...)
10. Ipod docking station and control

If you want a music/video server, pick any. Make sure it is IR controlled. You are good to go.

Homework is required to understand what this system can do.

I believe the W.H.E.N. system is an excellent value.

I was wondering if anyone has purchased and installed an audioaccess W.H.E.N system. There seems to be very little about this product on the web. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi I installed this in a clients home 5 yrs ago. last yr they had issues and it was hell trying to get the unit repaired.

long story short, the company charged me for the price of a new unit however that unit doesn't work.

they won't take it back and they won't credit me.

clients are not happy. I'd like to know what your experience was with the system. I can be reached at 508-two one two-7993

thanks

Michael

JFYI this thread started in 2008 so I doubt the OP is still interested in this discontinued product. wink.gif
