I have this DirecTV channel I watch daily called TVG - Channel 602 and this channel uses a 480i broadcasting resolution. If you get a chance, view the channel before replying to this message. I have a high end 46" Sony XBR4 HDTV flat panel. This TV really exposes the flaws of SD channels, especially if set to "Vivid".

The problem:

This channel has a terrible look to it, epecially around the edges of the 4:3 picture. What is this? Why does thie edges and the fonts on the screen look like this? It looks horrible.

First, because you are using Vivid which is only meant for Showrooms to attract customers to the one with the brightest picture.

Second, because D* broadcasts 480i in 480x480 - the lowest resolution for SD channels of any provider. You screen isn't square and the picture resolution shouldn't be either.

Congratulations - you have SD-Lite.
