It would probably help you as well to review pp. 62-63 to learn how DEV(ice)1and DEV(ice)2 mode is used. Generally when there's a "/" (eg. NET/TU), it means the button has to be pressed twice to get to the 2nd option. In this case, as JohnAV indicated, the DEV(ice)1 is for NETworked devices, and DEV(ice)2 is for the TUner/radio (actually a reversal from the setup on the 2808).
Regarding Denon tech support ... first ask them if they're from Texas or New Jersey. The Texas folks were added about the middle of 2008 and are generally very inexperienced (at least from my conversations with them). Unfortunately it's the luck of the draw which call center you get, and 9 times out of 10, you'll probably get Texas. My general rule of them (for ANY customer service organization for that matter) is if you don't get the answer you want, or it just doesn't sound right, or isn't helpful at all, call back again and speak with someone else. If still unsatisfied or confused ... repeat that step again.
