Ah, obviously not. That did the trick. Thanks!

Great! Enjoy.

Hey Guys,

a quick question though: my 2809 is up & running wonderfully since day one, so what's the reason for a FW upgrade if everything's fine?

I do recall reading about this new FW, but I just can't find it though.
I see no problem at all in upgrading my 2809 to the latest FW
post #5464 of 5602
if you haven't had any problems, don't worry about it
post #5465 of 5602
if it ain't broke, dont fix it!

The firmware update resolves audio dropout issues with the Star Wars: The Complete Saga BDs. PM me with a non gmail email address if you want a copy of the update and loading instructions.

Thanks a bunch guys and to JD, for his goodwill in providing the new FW

So I was trying to set up a separate input with settings for music and movies but looks like you can't select the same hdmi source for multiple inputs. Is this correct?

Correct

Yes, but you can set up a different Quick Select button for each input type.

Is there a way to see which firmware version you are running? and how do you do it?

Hi darkhorror,

In order to check your Main Ver, turn the AVR all the way OFF (not in Standby). Then turn the power of the AVR-2809/989 on, while holding both [STATUS] button and [RETURN] button on the front panel simultaneously. After the unit powers on, each time the STATUS button is pressed, it will cycle through the various software version numbers including the MAIN VER.

Hi everyone,

after researching here and deciding on a 2809Ci based on your recommendations, my receive has gone kaput. I bought a Best Buy/Magnolia extended warranty fortunately so I can pick up something that is comparable. what is the present equivalent of the 2809Ci in Denon's lineup? Also, I am open to going with something else if there's something better out there now. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

The 3312CI is the current model that replaced the 2809CI, although depending on your requirements (ie. if you don't need preouts, multi analog inputs, or PCM 2.0 to Zone 2), you may be able to use the 2112CI or 2312CI as they both have the same Audyssey MultEQ XT and all three have networking and Airplay.

hey I'm trying to do some REW measurements and was trying to determine the best way to connect REW through the receiver.

REW outputs from a usb sound card with only left channel or right channel signal. I have made my sub measurements by connecting directly to the input on the sub for measurements without audyssey. Now I would like to make some measurements with audyssey.

Should I use the left channel in on the front aux input or use the ext in on the back plate and use sub or left right depending on what I want to test?

Hi veger69, when I ran REW ... sound card red output -> single RCA cable to RCA Y-cable -> Receiver "AUX INPUT" (red/white).

I am having problems with certain audio channels dropping out and not coming back when the receiver is turned on. If it's been on for a minute and all channels are working everything works fine from then on.

But if I turn on the receiver sometimes one of the audio channels will drop out. I have noticed that the center does it the most the rest are ok most of the time. What I have started doing is turning on the receiver doing the tone test let it cycle through twice. If everything is working I don't have any problems. Sometimes the channel will cut in and out a couple times then cut out or start playing then cut out.

There is no distortion, no popping sound or anything when it does that. The sound is ether just on and sounding great or no sound at all.

I tried reattaching the speaker wire, did a processor reset, there are a few other things I want to try out. But has anyone had this happen? Or any suggestions on what I might try?

I've had my 2809 for a few years and it has worked flawlessly. Lately I am having the following problem: My DirecTV HR22 DVR (which was just replaced) and my AVR are not playing well together. The 2809 is not accepting a 1080i signal from the DVR. After checking out HDMI cables and various configurations I have determined that the 2809 seems to be the problem. If I connect the DVR directly to my TV I have access to all DVR resolutions, including 1080i & 1080p. The TV also displays a 1080i & 1080p when using my Blu-ray player as the source. I also changed the DVR HDMI Denon assignment from port 3 to 4 with the same results - no 1080i resolution.

Anyone have any experience with a similar problem? Suggestions welcome!

Was the DVR changed "to" the HR22 or was the former one an HR22 as well? It could also be an HDMI handshake issue caused be a recent firmware update to the HR22 in which case you'll have to connect the box directly to the TV with optical from the box to the AVR until DTV issues another update.

^^^

does it accept a 1080i signal from the bdp?

if so, it is almost certainly the dvr's "fault", not the avr... d* boxes (as well as other providers boxes) are notorious for causing hdmi woes...

hooking it directly to the tv proves nothing, unfortunately... it's when you insert a hdmi repeater into the chain (the avr), the box does not behave well...

edit... y'know jd...

Hey ....

y'know Chris ... there's a lone "2909" new thread just posted a short time ago just begging to be answered.

The "new" HR22 replaced an identical HR22 and while the new 22 worked for a day or 2, it now exhibits the same problems as the old HR22. DTV seems to update the software every few days & while I suspect that's where the problem is - DTV seems to think differently - that why I did some testing today, waiting for the tech to schedule another service call.

And yes the TV/2809 accept both 1080i & 1080p via BDP - It's wierd - everything is OK at 720p - but as soon as I change the DVR resolution to 1080i (where it's supposed to be - the screen content & sound disappear.

The fault remains with the DVR .... connect it to your TV directly and your issue is resolved.

It's the DVR. I have the 989 and HR23-700 and have the same problem. It was fixed via a DirecTV update a few weeks ago but then they downloaded another update yesterday or the day before and now it is jacked up again.

It would take 25-30 seconds for the picture and sound to come back when switching channels.

I just set my DVR output to 720p because I got tired of the annoyance. I'll check back in a week or two to see if they fixed it.

I noticed yesterday as soon as I pressed the menu button that I got a message stating Whole Home DVR was available to my account. That's when I knew they had installed a new update.

I love DirecTV but this has been very annoying.

Absolutely agree - the problem is that their support staff seem oblivious to the situation - but I guess the complaining should find it's way to the DTV thread. But thanks for your confirmation - stops me from trying to replace, diagnose, cables/connections/equipment, etc.

I had the same problem after the software update. For me it just started working again and I did not check to see if they had issued another update. Sorry I can't be of more help but just letting you know you are not alone

Thanks for the feedback - I have the Direct TV techs making a house call Saturday so I will see what they have to say. I can get 1080 if I run HDMI from DVR to TV and sound using TV speakers - and can also get sound if I run Toslink from DVR to 2809 so it looks like DTV has created a handshake problem as a result of ongoing software updates that didn't previously exist. my problems started earlier this month.

I just recently noticed that there is nothing going to the surround speakers. They are hooked to the surround left and surround right amplifier outputs. To test, I went to:

Menu -> Manual Setup -> Speaker Setup -> Channel Level

Made sure Test Tone was set to Manual, then did Test Tone Start

Front Left: working (going to external amp via preamp)
Center: working (powered from denon center amp output)
Front Right: working (going to external amp via preamp)
Surround Right: no sound (tried setting signal level all the way up to +12db)
Surround Left: no sound (same)

The surround speakers work. The connections are solid. It's possible that the wires have become severed, but I don't think this is likely since there are two dead at the same time (I might crawl under the house to verify this evening when it cools down). This same config used to work, though I do have a young child who loves to mash buttons (but this is normally locked cabinet, but remotes are still fair game), so it's possible this is some strange configuration problem, but I'm also wondering if I have some dead channels in the amp?

Anyone have any troubleshooting tips?

Oh, I also did a microprocessor reset, did not fix the problem.

Disconnect the SL/SR speaker wires from the SL/SR speaker posts and connect them to the FL/FR speaker posts and see if they work.
