Can the blue LED on the SC-05 be dimmed at all? It's quite bright.

I looked (briefly) at my owner's manual and it shows a DIMMER function (for the main display) is supported, but the DIMMER button doesn't appear on my SC-05 remote, so I assume it's only a SC-07 feature?

There is a dimmer button on the SC-05 as well, I have used it, it is in the bottom, under the sliding door on the remote.

HELP!

So I just bought a PS3 to hook up to my SC07 as my lone and first BluRay player. I have it hooked up to my SC07 via HDMI, and my SC07 sends video to my projector via Component. I have no video put lots of audio. am I to assume that this is an invalid setup and that the HDMI chain can't be broken? Do I need to switch to component video and optical audio? I would have assumed my reciever could handle the video switching but perhaps not?

Thanks in advance,

Kyle

no can do kyle... hdmi in, hdmi out... it won't transcode hdmi to component (can't think of an avr that will off the top of my head)...

see page 17 of your manual...

The receiver will not send video signals to component or any other analog video ouput from HDMI. You will have to use component IN and component OUT to your projector.
alright, back to the store I go! LOL

Thanks so much for the lightning quick replies
post #1297 of 17039
you are welcome...

don't let them sucker you into ridiculously expensive component cables...
I am thankful however that the receiver will take those analog component signals and send them to the HDMI outs to be able to distribute the video to the rest of my TV's all over the house.

Its 40 bucks CAN for the sony brand cables, it uses a propriety connection at the PS3 end otherwise I'd just be using cables I already have here.

Just got my new SC-07 here at work and I'm sure it's going to be a huge upgrade to my old Pioneer VSX-811 which is about 6 or 7 years old now. Can't wait to hook it up.

Quick question though. I'm sure it's easy to look up, but was hoping someone could give me a quick run down so that I can get up and running quickly when I get home. I'm going from HDMI to the TV and optical for audio to purely HDMI to the receiver for both video and audio now. What settings should I be changing in the PS3 settings to take advantage of my new receiver. Thanks in advance.

Go into the PS3 settings and make sure you enable PCM out of HDMI, also, go in the settings of the PS3 and make sure you select the HD surround formats, I would also turn Dynamic Range OFF.

You're getting ripped off. There is a bundled package that includes a USB 2.0 cable that retails for $39.99, but the component cable by itself should only be $24.99. London Drugs still sells it for that price and I'm quite sure Walmart does too. Also, if you can still find it, the Sony ps2 component cable works just as well and is only $19.99

It's been several days now since Aquafire reported that he "was disappointed with what I was hearing" when he played a couple of CDs through his SC-07. Did he ever find out what was causing that and do they sound great to him now? I hope so, because otherwise one owner is saying that the SC-07 is disappointing playing CDs and none of you have responded to my question as to how FM sounds.

If CDs sound bad and FM sounds bad, and movie-sound sounds great, as Aquafire stated, that's a mixed bag. I should think DVD-As might sound good. LPs? Most of you are saying the 07 sounds really wonderful, so apparently Aquafire was doing something wrong in how he was playing CDs.

If CDs now sound great with the change(s) you made on your SC-07, I would appreciate hearing you say it, Aquafire. Your post about bad-sounding CDs created doubts. Just one owner saying that creates real doubts for potential buyers.

And if FM sounds really good on the SC-07, I'd appreciate some owner saying so. No one has commented at all about how FM sounds on the 07, and it's making me wonder if you are reluctant to admit how bad it is. I had another maker's flagship here in June, 2008 and the FM sounded like really, stuningly bad AM. I could hardly believe it. That makes me think maybe AVR makers are using really cheap components for FM now.

Let's clear up this report by Aquafire about his being disappointed by how CD sound IF they sound good to him now.

And let's hear an SC-07 owner report how the FM on the SC-07 is as good as you have ever heard FM sound, if it is. Otherwise, we have to assume you've heard better.

My applogies for not replying sooner.

I finally had a chance on Sunday to play a few different cd's. I'm starting to wonder if my disappointment is misdirected. I have Klipsch RF-82 front speakers and the SC-07....Im just not happy with the overall CD sound. Maybe the Klipsch just are not the type of speakers I should have purchased .

As I said movies sound great so im really confused!!!

I like them, but they are not for everyone, definately much different than my VA mozarts.

lots of processors do this, but yeah i cant think of any receivers that do this either..
can i have a show of hands of who all is using these bad boys as strictly a processor? I have low impedence speakers that love power so i will be matching them up with a separate amp. Thoughts on the processor portion? TIA.

In other words, no pass through when SC07 was off.

BTW, in addition to the HDMI connection, I also connected the Toslink digital and L, R RCA cables as shown on page 89 . Didn't work. Went dark, whenever SC07 was powered down.

Does anyone of you have a similar experience?

I've tried to resolve the situation a few times since my original post but have had no success.

Thanks GM.
So what is your current hookup? HDMI to TV directly and then optical from DVR to SC-07 separately?

Did you call Pioneer technical support?

You still haven't changed the SC-05 info to reflect that it too, has the HDMI Jitter Reduction.

But, I still have not heard much about what that really does??

Yes, that's correct on the hookup and
No, I did not contact Pio tech support.

It was only differences I was putting in WRX_Rocky, yes they both have jitter reduction via HDMI... In addition the SC-07 has "Sampling Rate Converter HDMI Jitter Reduction - Burr Brown"
Jitter has to do with timing (synchronization) between CD player > AVR.. it effects CD Audio quality only. It depends on who you talk to as to the importance of it for critical listening.. Some say it's not worth a pair of dingo's kidneys, others say it's the best thing since thong bikinis. YMMV. All I know is the CD audio coming through this unit is the best I've heard, especially when paired with my BPD-51FD.
In order to avoid the implication that the SC-05 may not have jitter reduction I have added: "Note, both units have jitter reduction over HDMI"
Thanks, input is appreciated

Blueste: Thank you

aquafire, how are you proccessing the sound? Are you using standard or THX? Try using Stream Pure Direct or of Stream Direct if that's the case. You may want to do the Advanced MCAAC again and save the settings to a different memory, just to check that's not the problem.

that might help, but i'm gonna "guess" he's probably on the right track in thinking about the speakers...

aqua, can you put into some type of words what it is you are "hearing" that you aren't happy with?
