er, I'm just a member like you DekPM19
This is a thread for all of us. But thanks for asking.
Here's some pictures from Sherardp . He doesn't mention what speakers he's using, but I'm sure he will when he gets some time from playing with his new toy
post #1382 of 17039
My Speakers are from Polk Audio Rti series, RTi12s(fronts) CSi5(center), FXi3( side surrounds) and Rti4s(back surround) subs are dual SVS PB12/Plus 2s paired with Velodyne SMS-1.

I'm more of a 2 channel music hobbyist but have finally decided to upgrade my 10-15 year old ProLogic based HT gear. I have a Samsung 67" LED DLP being delivered from Amazon today. Also have Direct TV H23-600 receiver. I I purchased a Pioneer -51 Blue Ray player and am about to buy the SC-07 receiver after reading the overwhelmingly positive remarks on this site. I'll run this 5.1 for now with existing speakers (Kef 1o4.3s) and sub. I hope to have a front projector and 104" screen within a year, but for now the TV will be the only display device. I plan on using all HDMI (except for my ageing Sony laserdisc player). Can you recommend how to best daisy chain this equipment? I'd like to have the choice of running everything through the receiver for DVD/BlueRay based movies, concerts, etc., but want the simplicity using the TV by itself for nightly news watching and regular programming. I'll pick up a Harmony one to control everything next month but just want the basic set up for the next couple of weeks, until I get things figured out. Thanks in advance for your help?

I have almost narrowed down the choices -

Pioneer Elite Sc05/07, most probably the SC-05 and the Sherwood Newcastle R-972 which is coming out in November.

Sounds like a great system, northwoods_maine
Setup should be pretty straight forward.
Satbox and blueray >> Sc-07 >> Display.
I see two options for allowing your tv to work standalone:
Since with h23-600 receiver A/V outputs are all active you can:
1. hook up component from the H23 to your Display or
2. hook up HDMI from the H23 to your Display.

You might want the simplicity of only two HDMI cables going to your display, rather than one HDMI and 3 cables for component (plus another optical or coaxial cable) so I would suggest running component from your H23 to the SC-07. (Directv HD looks the same via component or HDMI) and HDMI from your H23 to Display.

BTW, when you program your Harmony one, most people find the settings for the VSX-94TXH to be the best, until they come out with the codes for the SC-07. Let us know how it works!

Cool, let us know what you decide.

Guys,

I am seriously thinking of buying the SC-05. I am a VSX-1014 owner and have been very happy with it. In terms of SQ and power, how would the SC-05 compare to the 1014? BTW, I am using Ascend Acoustics SE line speakers.

Thanks
This SC05 is fantastic. I just unboxed the new member of the theater.

Whisked a little Ironman through the wires and am freakin' happy I looked at all my options.

I'll start the tweaking now. Looks like a long weekend.

It is good to have the right tools. Thanks for all the feedback in this thread.

i was one of the original owners of Ascends "back in the day". Replaced them with Rockets. Curious.....what do you think of those "new" Ascends?

Pleased with the Pioneer Elite AVR? I've got a 6020 and am thinking of going all Pio on electronics.

I didn't have the 1014, but I did have a previous Elite 45TX and the sound improved in my system. I use Onix Rocket speakers, 750's for fronts, 550 for surrounds, 150's for surround back and an RSC100MKII for the center channel. My bass also improved because of the updated MCACC, I use two SVS CS+'s for subs.

After the whole Digital Bits / Josh Lehman Power Buy fiasco, I got a full refund thanks to visa and placed an order on Wednesday for this monster. Axxis Audio took care of me and about 74 hours after I placed my order - I'm looking at my new SC-07 sitting here in my living room. It's OU/TX weekend here so I won't be tinkering with it over the weekend but will set it up on Monday...

Without hesitation, I HIGHLY recommend Axxis for your needs.

squigglyline,

That is good news, you will be enjoying the 07 in no time.
WRX_Rocky - I'm competely invested in the Definative mythos line but wouldn't consider myself in the high end category. I'm currently using Mythos ST SuperTower's with Built-In Powered Subwoofers for the front right and left, their voice matched Mythos Ten for the center, and I'm waiting for delivery of UIW RSSII reference surround in-wall speakers.

Thanks, I am torn between the SC-05 and Denon 3808ci at the moment.

CHP_VR - Thanks for the help. I know it's not rocket science, but due to kids college tuition, etc. I fell way behind the learning curve having not upgraded in a long time. I've been reading the hell out of this site and every HT magazine I can get my hands on for about a year now, so I felt confident that the equipment I've purchased will fulfill all my needs within a budget that was WAF (well, almost!). I just needed some assurance as to where everything fell in the chain. Thanks again.

gg...

i can't say enough about the sierra's... i gave them a shot when they came out based upon tom/gene's review at audioholics (as well as other killer reviews), figuring that, at worst, it would only cost me the shipping if i didn't like them... after they were here for about 5 minutes, i knew they weren't going back... i'm not really much into audiophile terms, but they are very accurate and pleasing (i'm primarily a classical/jazz listener)... great (not just good, but great) detail, clarity and resolution... with a minimum of fiddling, they "disappeared" into the room and throw a really nice soundstage and image wonderfully (recording dependent, of course)... they are built like the proverbial brick (^(&*-house... imo, they'd be a bargain at twice the price... and they passed the ultimate vote of my wife, who IS a bit of a golden ear... plus there's the positive of dealing with dave...

yea, VERY pleased with the sc-05... came from a pio 82txs, which i didn't have any "issues" with... but my "guy" and i were chatting after he came back from a pio demo of the sc's, and he was really impressed with them (and he's not given to bs)... i'm an ice amp fan to begin with, so when he offered me a good price on one, i knew i had to have one (i'd been flirting with the idea of a denon)... sounds very good, PLENTY of effortless power with a minimum of heat... easy to set up (reasonably modern gui), and the mcacc really works well... it has the usual collection of sound fields, etc., if someone is looking for that stuff... plenty of "tweakability", if you like to "play"... i'm not using the video part, so i can't comment on that... it's got the typical "nice, but understated" pioneer packaging... more than adequate number of connections, if anything, too many (i really wish cem's would ditch at least half of the number of 'legacy' connections, just to clean the back up some)... i'd buy it again, without a doubt... i'm a bit of a pio fanboy to begin with, but i'd say they have a real winner on their hands with these units...

nice display... i have a 8g pio (150fd), and that's another thing i'd buy again...

Gov,
patgilm came from a 4808.. here's his impression
FilmMixer came from a 4308 to a SC-09 and settled for the SC-07. Here's his impressions.
Kinda depends on what your main objective is.

Thanks

I'd had the 1014, was very happy with it.

The SC-05, especially with the improved MCACC, just blew it out of the water.

Here's the goofy post I made after setting it up.

As of today, I pretty much feel the same way, though I am still tweaking things.

WOW....sounds great, thanks. Do these receivers have anything like dynamic volume or dynamic EQ?

The SC07 has THX Loudness Plus... similar to Dynamic EQ.

cc....thanks for the comments. While I thought the original Ascends were a little "thin" sounding for me, I always liked what David was doing. Ended up with Rockets (which I'm pleased with). But, since I got the 6020 (which gives an absolutely gorgeous picture....just like yours), I'm wondering.

I had a 59 TXi and 59 AVi which I sold to a friend. Those were absolutely "rock solid" pieces. Tried an 805. It was horrid in comparison to the 59 TXi. Very fatiguing sound. Took it back for a refund in fairly short order.

Got a Marantz SR 8002. Very nice. Great power. Great sound. Still miss the Elite sound, though. Thinking SC 07. My PS3 is fine for my bluray needs.

My former Pio guy, Josh, is "out of business". From what I'm reading, he left some people high and dry on their orders. Personally, I never had any issues with him. But, that was few years ago. Still, it leaves me a bit "skittish" by ordering over the phone. May have to give Roman a call (that is, unless any of you have someone else you can recommend).

Soundpros.com!

No issues at all.

I had great service from Robert at ********************* ............. Ordered on Tuesday and took delivery on Friday of the same week, just as promised.
What's going on here when I am powering up my SC-05? When I power up my equipment the receiver goes to input "TV/SAT" instead of on of the HDMI inputs. I have HDMI Control set to on and I have the following Pioneer equipment connected:

Pioneer Elite Pro1150 Kuro plasma
Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver
Pioneer BDP-51FD Bluray

It seems to function correctly when it's been powered up and running but it only does this when I powering up for the day/evening for the first time. Why does it go to TV/SAT input when that input is not even an HDMI input?

Anyone know what to do to fix this?

I have used Roman for my SC-05 and my Pio Plasma, no problems at all and will be going back to him for future purchases.

Do you have a cable/SAT box hooked up to the TV/SAT input on your receiver? I don't have this problem, but I don't run my SAT box thru the receiver, I just hooked it up straight to the TV and use a digital connection to the receiver for when I want to watch something from SAT in surround.
