Mine was an open box and I didn't get a remote with it and I tried to make them lower price more to make up for the remote but they wouldn't budge...bummer

I know their policy...but do you think they would actually deny a warranty claim?
I think it always seems peculiar that there are always so many "new in box" on ebay...and the 25/27 was there on ebay right after they were introduced
And if it it was "new in box" and $500 less than Magnolia's sale price( about 300 off list).... is it worth the chance?

picked up a open box sc-05 at best buy today to replace a vsx-91txh and love it so far. got a great deal too!! 549.95 seemed sweet to me couldn't resist.

Warren, I am big on warranty for expansive items and to me it's a deal breaker. If you do get one from ebay then I would highly recommend getting a warranty plan from BB. It will be worth it. Though I am not sure if you can get one if you didn't buy it from them.

Loudness Plus works in ONLY ONE direction - raise the volume of sounds such as bass frequencies that would ordinarilly be imperceptible at lower volume levels (i.e. NON REFRENCE levels). Dynamic volume works in both (raise/lower) such as with loud TV commercials during a standard Dolby Digital program source.

My setup is SC-05 with Pro-111FD connected via HDMI. The source is a Motorola PVR also connected via HDMI to the SC-05. I have HDMI Control enabled on both the SC-05 and Pro-111FD. This works fine for having the TV show the SC-05 volume on screen.

But I have a somewhat undesirable "feature" with this setup. If I have the SC-05 on and listening to music via HMG for example (TV is off). I then turn on the TV (using the SC-05 remote). The TV turns on just fine but about 3 seconds later the SC-05 switches to the TV/SAT input. WTF?

I have nothing connected to the TV/SAT input. Is there a way to define the input that should be switched to when the TV is powered on? Ideally I'd like to make the HDMI input the PVR is connected to be the input that gets selected by the HDMI Control when the TV is powered on. But I can't see any way to do that with the SC-05 menus.

Any suggestions very welcome.

Pictures welcome, but make sure the stickers are off

Thanks!

Haven't had much time to play around (that whole annoying work thing). I actually haven't even hooked it up via HDMI, although I will be. Here's a quick picture of the upgraded system. I've given up on my wife putting her decorations all over my stuff.
So far, it crushes my old Yamaha RX-V1400 which it replaced. But then again, it should.
The stickers were the first thing to come off.

EDIT: I just realized how bad my photography skills are. I'll have to work on that.

Is the reverse also true? If you aren't in a THX mode THX Loudness Plus isn't active?

I have a issue I need to get resolved, it's driving me crazy. I have ran Full MCACC, changed what speakers were set to Large to Small with 80 Hz crossover. Here's my problem, all audio formats sound great except DD 5.1, there is way to much base, the Sub is bottoming out. What I have tried is turning off THX Loudness, selected "no" to THX Select2 Subwoofer, this has not helped. Any ideas?

Thanks

Steve

The switch to TV/SAT is a "benefit" from HDMI control. If you're turning on the TV, it's because you want to watch tv, right? (You can have any flavor you like, as long as it's vanilla...)

The quick work-around is to turn off HDMI control in the 111FD.

Dan.

I haven't posted in years and couldn't find or recall my old account.

I recently had some lucky chance encounters with several local area Best Buy stores in the Houston area that enabled me the opportunity to update an aging media room and make another one. New Def-tech mythos one floor standing speakers and matching sub. My surrounds are the Mirage Nanosat Prestige 5s, (4 Surrounds and 1 center) making it possible for a clean looking 7.1 surround room. It came with a center channel that could not cut the mustard with me, so I purchased a martin Logan center speaker and all from best buy. Believe it or not, it all sounds really great together and have had mouth dropping moments from not just friends that get into this kinda thing, but my WIFE! All items together were reduced in price along with 2 Pioneer amps the 05 and 07 for around 2,200. Honestly, I have no idea all this equipment BB was willing to let go for such a steal. It was a fall clean out for new equipment. I have to believe that pricing errors or something rewarded me all this equipment. I don't often get lucky like this, but I suppose I was due. I feel very fortunate since purchasing such equipment with normal pricing would have made all this impossible as my wife would have skinned me alive! I'm not trying to gloat here, I'm just happy as um heck!!!

Moving forward, both receivers I have work great. I was concerned about the class D amps, but WOW, they really sound amazing... They both from time to time make a tick noise thru the speakers that I never noticed thru my old trusty Onkyo 989. It only happens from time to time, but does happen on both amps. It happens with all media sources. So, I dunno... No major deal, I was just curious if others have had similar issues. I was also curious if Pioneer has any firmware updates that are available and if so, have their been any complications with the updates that have had any negative impacts.

Yes.

I believe Pioneer's new "Optimum Surround" mode does something similar in non-THX modes, but it only became available in the SC-25/27 series.

Congratulations, and welcome back.

You have a very nice system there, and a great bargain. BB managers have a lot of discretion on pricing, so if you catch an aggressive one at the right time, some great deals can be had there. It's kind of hit or miss though, and you have to be lucky.

I've never experienced the clicking sound, nor do I remember it being an issue here. My first inclination would be to guess that your receivers might be picking up some interference from another device in your house (e.g. an appliance turning on and off). Maybe someone else has a better thought.

Pioneer never has been big for firmware updates, and there are none specifically for the SC-05/07, at least none intended to be applied by the end user. There is one for the non-North American models which a few people have successfully applied to their 05/07's, but it is only to update the HMG function. Most of us haven't bothered with it.

More information about this can be found in a link on the first post on first page of this thread. You'll find that first post an invaluable resource as you get acquainted with your new receivers.

Why two Monster power centers?

I would suggest that you call some of the Best Buy's in the Los Angeles area...

Guys--Dumb question here.

I searched all over the thread and others and can't come up with the answer....

I have an SC-05 hooked up to a samsung bd-p1600 BD player, and do I set the player default to PCM or Bitrate (audiophile)?

I'm running this through HDMI exclusively...

Same with the PS3.

Yesterday, I swapped my SC-07 and BDP-05FD for a SC-27 and BDP-23FD. Here are some tips and remarks:

1) Tip: When using the 23FD with the SC-07, for the HDMI connection, you have to select "High Speed Transmission" OFF in the 23FD, otherwise you get "NOT SUPPORT" on the SC-07 display. Took me a while to figure that one out, since my 05FD was set on high speed ON.

2) About the "Optimum Surround": The first thing I noticed when switching from Optimum surround to another mode (like stream direct) is the much higer level of background hiss in optimum surround!!! That's one mode I don't think I'll be using much....

3) New features in SC-27 (don't remember if they're noted in the SC-0x/SC-2x differences info):
- You can set the power-on volume level ("Last", or any specific level)
- You can set a maximum power level (None, -20db, -10db, 0db)

That's all for now, got to go setup the SC-07 and BDP-05 at my mother's house...

Dan.

While I am a fan of Samsung (particularly my FPT5084 plasma), that picture frame cycles through various images such as THX, DTS Master, Dolby TrueHD, Klipsch etc.

The 2 power centers are for stuff you don't see. My router, modem, and MRF-350 are behind the curtain along with an amplifier for my cable line.I also have a couple of strings of LED's along the backside of the glass shelves, which give a nice green glow through the glass at night). I have a laptop and an iPod dock in the drawer. I'm also using an Airport Express for more music distribution. There's also the $5 blue clock behind one of the holes in the back of the stand (looks built in, and I needed it since my TivoHD doesn't show the time). Oh yea, and the 2 subs off to the sides (RSW-12 and BA BT1100/not pictured). All in all, around 16 things to power.

The real jewel isn't shown. The MX-980 which controls the whole system along with 5 zones of music.

With that said, I'm pretty proud of my "wire management". Oh yea, I got both the power centers for free too, so no busting chops for spending too much on glorified extension cords!

But I digress.

as well you should be... where the heck did you put them all? if i attempted to wire that much stuff in an open stand like that, it would look like the kitchen of an italian restaurant after a major disaster...

digression is fun... and more than welcome...

ps. where'd you hide the rf receiver for the mx-980?

damn. i AM impressed... any chance you want to visit the toxic waste dumps and clean my wiring up?
The MRF-350 is on the windowsill behind the curtain, and the antenna runs up the side of the window to the top.

I took a while to make it look like that, but it's a labor of love. It didn't come without some pain tho. When attempting to hang the 106lb. TV, I tore my bicep tendon! Don't worry tho. the TV was ok.
well, as long as the tv was ok...

gotcha... i too really like my mx-980 (i use a msc-400 with it)... although i still occasionally curse ss for getting me to spend the money on it, i'm really glad he did... after heaven knows how many hours of learning and programming (not to mention debugging), i have something that truly "works" all the time (and, at least to this point, is idiot-proof)... plus it's fun to play with... i'm presently playing with loading up "holiday" backgrounds as we "speak"...

the lutron switches for urc are quite cool as well (albeit a bit pricey)... by adding a couple of those in, i can control everything from everywhere... other than the dadgummed casablanca ceiling fan...

Do you think it was worth the $$$$ to do so? I'm not a huge fan of BD Live.

Just curious......
