Got the trigger figured out...!

Anyone using a Harmony One or other Harmony with their Pio SC? Wondering if I should add any additional buttons that might not automatically sync with the Logitech software such as surround modes or anything like that?

Any suggestions?

I used to use a Harmony One but got tired of always hitting the wrong activity on that tiny LCD touch screen. I now use a Harmony 700. It seems to have all the A/V Receiver's modes contained but I don't have the patience to dig for them. So, I end up using the original Pioneer remote to have one touch access. The only thing I use the Harmony remote for, is turning my devices on, channel, volume and the occasional use to push "Play" for my BD player. I love using the Pioneer remote control. The only gripe I can find is having to replace the batteries more often than usual.

I use the Pioneer remote for the Xbox 360 on my SC-05 as well as my VSX-1021. I actually think it was one of the best Harmony remotes ever made for the price. I usually customize the buttons to get them where I want them in the menu or on the front of the remote itself. I just don't like having 50 remotes.

I was going to program some surround modes onto the ONE. Any suggestions on which 4 I Should program. 100% TV and movie watching.

Has this ever happened to anyone here with their 07 (and possibly their 05?)

I was watching TV last night and my 07 made a click sound and turned off. Obviously, the audio was cut off and video was shut off to my PRO-151FD.

About 3 to 5 seconds later it clicked back on...restoring audio to my speakers and video to my PRO-151FD.

I'm sure there's a fail safe or something that will shut the 07 off (to prevent damage.) However, I have not touched any of the connections or changed anything with the unit and I've had the unit for about three years (since new.)

I have the 07 (and other audio/video equipment) plugged into a Monster Power unit.

It's been about 12 hours since then and the 07 is operating normally.

If I had to bring up something that might have been odd, is (maybe???) I noticed my regular house lights quickly dim (but never went out) when all this happened.

What Monster Power unit?

Did it turn off and require a hard re-start?

Have you ever experienced a brown-out? Sounds like that's what you had.

If your power is that un-reliable it's time to call the power company - or turn off the heavy equipment in use on the same circuit.

Defective fridge? Carpenters in the house or hood?

It was the Monster HTS 5100 MKII

I don't know what a "hard re-start" is. It simply came back on within about three seconds after it shut off. I remember there was a loud click sound though.

It's possible there was a brown-out. However non of my digital clocks were blinking nor any other evidence that the electricity was off for a short moment. Except of course, it does seem like my lights dimmed for a very brief period of time.

The fridge does make a loud noise when it shuts off, however it's been doing that for years. And this happened at around 2am...no Carpenters in the house...

Hard off is when either a surge or a brownout causes the unit to trip off and turn off all manually switched outlets.

When power fails at my home I have to manually go and turn back on all of my switched outlets on the Monster 3600 mk II units.

The click is the protection circuit turning off the unit and all connected devices to prevent brown out damage.

Sounds like you had a pretty bad power dip and the unit worked as expected. All of my amps are on the triggered circuit just for that reason. If the power has issues I want to decide when I turn them back onto the grid.

Hey just wanted to keep this thread alive! MY sc-05 is still going strong. Last night was watching the Two Towers DVD, and noticed that the Tone Audio option was set to bypass. (Default setting according to manual)

While the credits were rolling I changed this to On. Bass and Treble are set to zero dB, but Once on the sound was fuller. Weird. Maybe it's my non-expensive speakers that make this sound good I don't know.

Let me ask, does anyone know why turning on Tone does something with all zeros for the two settings? Does anyone use this? Thanks.

I know a lot of people here use Direct, but I stopped since I didn't like how it sounded. I mean half the things I see on my TV are faked, so why not fake the sound.
I've never used the Tone Control on my SC-07 and have absolutely no idea why it would sound different engaged and set to zero. Unless, something in that circuit is changing the sound when it shouldn't be.

Funny you mentioned it because I was watching Netflix last night and decided to use Neural THX which I never used before. It sure made a difference for the positive when it was engaged. I tried it on some 2-channel songs but it sounded mostly good "Off" than it did "On".
Right now, I only have a 3.1 setup.
Neural THX 5.1 sounds better than PL2 movie to me. With 2 channel sources PL2 Is too focused in the center channel. THX5.1 sounds more spread out and open.

hey guys, whats the best way to hook up my ipod to my sc-05 to take advantage of the pioneers dac? All the music on my ipod is apple lossless. Right now I have it hooped up to the ipod plug in on the front, is that the best way and if it is is it better to control the music through the pioneers ui or use the ipod or does it even make a difference? Thanks!

I think maybe you meant the Harmony remote for Xbox 360. I agree that it's one of the best. I got in on clearance a few years back and have loved it. My wife appreciates not having 6 remotes laying around. It's very easy to program your own functions on the 2x2 screen.

Harmony seems to have all of the Pioneer SC codes in memory, but it did have a problem with the up, down, left, right buttons when it came to Home Media Gallery. It was basically double-tapping every time - very annoying. I just manually programmed them in (hold the two remotes front-front) and viola! Btw, do the firmware upgrade if you use HMG - it makes it so much more stable.

I'd highly recommend the Harmony Xbox 360 remote if you can find one (probably on eBay). It's great for the price.

Have you done the firmware upgrade yet?

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post16631529

Some folks have said that that helps. I mostly use my SC-05 for the HMG internet radio and file streaming functions, but if you are using Apple Lossless, I think will have to use the iPod plug-in. Plus, with the plug-in you can use the GUI to control the iPod.

Your other option would be to just use a 3.5mm to stereo adapter and plug it in the back - which would also work, just no GUI. I think you would have access to the Audio functions either way.

Doing this would limit you to the quality of apples DAC no? Since they will convert the digital audio to analog on the headphone output?

I would use the USB cable as this keeps the audio digital... right? Unless the files format is not supported by the sc-05...

I too have a 3.1 setup only... Yeah the tone control is weird... the sc-05 is not as warm sounding as I wish it could be, should of done the 07 when I had the chance. Maybe it's my speakers... oh well.

I agree that the THX settings are nice.

i do not remember for sure, but doesn't engaging the tone control disengage mcacc?

which would be why it sounds "different", even if the tone control is flat...

edit: yes. it's your speakers... avrs aren't warm/cold/whatever...

My SC07 just died a horrible death. I was watching True Blood and all of a sudden there is a crackling sound then it died to the red flashin MCCAC light.
so I did all the usual stuff, Unplugged it , read forum checked everything and connections and nothing.
So I ytried the red light flashing reset as a last resort and she lit up like she had a sparkler inside her and that is the end of her life. She was to young to go and had a full life ahead of her but when its time its time.
So now I have to stazrt the hunt for a replacement which would be a good thing usually but I just spent $3500.00 on my bike and this is going to go over like a lead brick.
Well atleast I'll get a new elite out of it.
Have a great 4th.

Is it out of warranty?

Try having it serviced first. It might cost a lot less.

Yes she is. I bought mine from a forum member filmixer a few years ago and have loved her ever since. I am going to replace it with a new elite that is 3d ready and I prefer MCCAC over Audussey so its not to bad but still.
Thanks for the help and input.

'Cause, Chris, I heard that ESS Sabre DACs are way kooler than any namby pamby room correction, bass management, and time alignment. Don't ya know that?

Not to mention, a single HDMI cable is for sissies. Running eight analog interconnects is the manly way.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. I have my OPPO BDP-93 plugged into the multi-channel inputs of the SC-07 strictly for beta testing purpose as well but use it via HDMI for pleasure because I don't care how good the DAC's are in the 95 if there is no RC.

My SC-05 I think just suffered the same fate. I turned it on about a week ago and had about 3 seconds of sound and picture, then nothing. Black screen. Also out of warranty. I am sending it out for repair, but they want $75 just to look at it and quote. I get the same $ as an in-store credit if I chose not to repair it, but the sad thing is that my local AV dealer (part of a small Ontario chain) just re-jigged its product line and no longer carries Pioneer. Mind you, they still carry some nice stuff like Arcam, Denon and Rotel but I had really come to love the ICE Power sound.

Hi folks,

I can get a 20 month old SC-07 for $525 shipped. Is this a reasonable price?

This receiver is 20 months old, so I'm kind of concerned about the life left since I've read a couple of posts above about the sudden death of these machines.

Or should I get a new SC-25 for 700 shipped? I'm not really into 3D so the SC-35 doesn't appeal to me very much. Besides it uses different DAC chips.

Please advise.

TIA

Martin

they will all sound the same... so that can be put aside...

that's a "fair" price for the 07, given that you can get a new 25 for only 175 more...

as far as lifespan, ime, any avr that has lasted 18 months is likely to keep working for a long time... sure, some will fail earlier than others, but I wouldn't let lifespan play into the decision...

IMO, if there's no feature on the 35 that you want/need, the 25 for 700 shipped is the best buy... if you can use the extra 175 for something else, the 07 for 525 is the best bang for the buck of what you listed... especially if you could push the seller to 475-500...

My HTPC is connected to my Pioneer SC-07 AVR via HDMI. The SC-07 HDMI outputs are connected to a 720p Plasma TV and a 720p projector. I have the SC-07 set to HDMI OUT ALL.

In XP, I'd get a signal on whichever display device was on, or both if the TV and projector were both on.

I made some changes to my HTPC and installed Windows 7. Now, when I switch between the TV and the projector (or vice versa), the video output doesn't change reliably. Sometimes I lose all video output from the HTPC and need to reboot to have it put out a video signal again.

Additionally, if I enter the on-screen configuration for MCACC etc, when I leave it and go back to the HTPC input, I get no video signal (just like above). I have to reboot the PC.

Any thoughts?
