Guys,


I just got my self some kimber 4tc cables which is long enough that I can make them into a pair of 8tc-biwire or separate 4tc runs in bi-amp configuration for my SC-05.

But I remembered reading that Kimber cables typically have higher capacitance due to their weaved-wire nature. Which could cause oscillation with some " lower end " amplifiers.

Has anyone used 4tc/8tc with their SC ICE receivers ? Do they exhibit any weird issues or even experienced failure ?

HELP....sitting here watching a MKV movie from My HTPC and my Pio SC-07 just shuts down during a loud scene. Only watching the movie at a reasonable level of -15. I restart it, lower volume to -19 and it powers off again, totally! Only little red light blinking.

I have the SC-07 hooked up to Emo XPA-3 driving my front LCRs. Can't it really be going into safe mode? Confused!!

Double-check the tips & steps described on page 112 of the manual (especially loose speaker strands).

Does turning on the "digital safety feature" changes anything?

Will my SC-05 (got it 2009) work with a wireless ethernet dongle that has the LAN OUT function, like the NETGEAR WNCE2001?

maybe... technically it should, but quirky results have been known to happen...

Does anyone have experience with their unit running hot? The power supply unit side/corner is abnormally hot and I believe the fan may be dead. Does anyone have any tips/advice for changing the fan or remedying the problem? Unit is probably 4 years old.

My SC-7 has always run extremely cool - unlike an older Onkyo that acted like a heater even with the help of an external fan. I never noticed the fan coming on either. Please note that was not in a rack, but if you search this thread the lack of heat is a common trait for this receiver.

Receiver works fine, I even did a factory reset still when i press home screen just green screen nothing else
after reseting the receiver all my speakers settings went to 0
I need on screen disply to set the receiver and speaker mcacc settings

do you mean green screen on your TV? or a blank display on the receiver itself? if its the TV, that sounds like an HDMI connection or a video setting issue to me. check HDMI output cable connections on both ends, TV & receiver, reseat both. I've actually had a cable recently go bad on me most likely damaged during a big gear change behind my cabinets.

check the HDMI outputs on the receiver. you may have accidentally switched from HDMI 1 out to HDMI 2 by hitting the button on the remote.

if the receiver's display is OK, go in and for now turn the video converter off. then see if you get display of menu on the TV. If yes, then you have the video converter's resolution set to something your TV cannot display. In that case, using the receiver's display, set it to Auto or to same as the TV, Auto is preferable. Make sure it's set to Through not scaling to some other resolution.

if the receiver's display itself is blank, you may have accidently hit "dim display" on the remote. try cycling thru those. if still nothing, then you may have to take to repair.

I have gotten green screen on my TV when I switched from 1080p to 480i/p when I had High Speed (Deep Color) turned on in a player. Cycling thru the player's resolution to something that supports Deep Color restores the video. If you had done something like with a player or source with Deep Color High Speed setting, then you'd lose video & the receiver's OSD.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else.

I checked the hdmi its set to hdmi out all
I checked the video its set to auto
My pioneer elite bluray player works fine my tv works fine its all going throughreceiver via hdmi
its just the when i push home menu to setup its green screen
any help would be appreciate it There is a green screen on the tv when i push home menu
you can see fine on the receiver it self

To check if its a problem with the video generating system of the receiver: Is the H.M.G. working? Can you see the HMG display?

Also, try the component or composite RCA outputs to see if its a HDMI problem or something (hope not...) more serious.

Hi. Thanks for responding. I have never played Home Media Gallery. I don't know how, but when I pushed HMG on the remote, it says Starting HMG on the receiver and the tv shows a green screen. What next? Please let me now. Thanks again.

info_dan has some good advice - connect rca composite video, s-video or component video. composite is probably easiest since you won't have to assign the input. then see if you get osd & setup menus. Composite & S-video should work regardless of anything going on with hdmi

did you try my suggestion of testing with the video converter off? that also is something to try just to narrow down possibilities?

So, if we recap, the AVR is able to pass correctly the video from an HDMI signal, but if you go to HMG or the Settings screen of the AVR, you see a green screen. Right? Unfortunately, that does not sound good. Looks like your AVR will need to be brought in for service (unless anyone has other suggestions to try?). It could still be worth it to try component or composite output to see if the problem is only with the HDMI output or not.

Thanks for the response. I tried the video converter off, and the result was the same thing, the green screen. I am going to try it right now the composite cable. The thing is that it works. You can see the receiver screen is working fine. It's just the on screen display won't show up on tv. I'll respond in a few minutes.

Ok, that's sort of good news, but you're far from out of the woods. It means that you either have a problem in the receiver, in the part that switches the HDMI output between the selected input or the internally generated video (HMG, settings screen), or that there is some weird setting that has changed somewhere (Input signal type, resolution, you name it...)

I can think of two relatively simple tests to attempt to prove failure in the SC-07:

1) Disconnect EVERYTHING from the AVR (yes, I know...) and connect only the power and ANOTHER HDMI display or monitor, using another HDMI cable. Go in HMG and see if you have a green screen or not

2) If you still have a green screen, do a factory reset of both the display, if available, and the SC-07.


If I were in front of the system, I might do some other checks before doing those tests, but there's nothing that comes to mind right now. What is the brand and model of your TV?

I have panasonic plasma 1080p tv, I reset both the tv and receiver
when i shut video converter off i dont see pic on my tv
when i leave auto on video and choose pure i see pic
when i go 480 no pic when i go 720 no pic when i go 1080p i see pic but it says on the receiver screen cannot play but i stll see pic on tv woring
so left it on auto
on home media i still get green screen and home menu green screen except with componet home menu works
when i play blay pionee elite bluray plays fine, But wheni tried to play my old dvd player with red white yellow cable nothing it wont play
last mont same dvd player was working fine with the same settings dont understand what went wrong

Well, as per the manual, it would seem "normal" that if you turn off the video converter, you loose input signals that are not already in digital format:
But before dealing with external input sources, I wanted to check the output of the receiver using internal sources like HMG or setup menu. Since the factory reset of the devices did not change anything, it's not looking any better. The only things I can recommend at this point is to try another cable and TV or monitor, or to have some tech saavy expert come to your place to have a look.

Hey guys it's been awhile since I've been here but the 05/07 will not provide any on screen menus through HDMI or RGB. You have to use a analog video cable only to see your menu on your tv.
This was a big gripe back when it first came out(I've had mine for about 5yrs). Inthink they changed it on the later SC models but I have a 521k (bedroom) and it won't do any on screen stuff through HDMI and it's only a yr old.
Just so you know and don't waste time sending it back and re-doing everything.

you SURE? i never had my 05 (or 09, ftm) hooked up any way but hdmi (when i had it), and i don't recall that...

it's possible i'm recalling incorrectly... but i don't believe i am...

Maybe I'm wrong but that is what I was advised here for my 07. I couldn't even run my Verizon Fios to my 07 with HDMI then to my tv as it caused the "green screen" issue and it was the same for my on screen menus.
I remember how frustrated I was about this and thought it was pretty cheesy of pioneer to make me use a video cable with there second best receiver at the time.

Search "green screen" for the thread and you'll see a bunch of posts and maybe that will help you find an answer to help.
I never was able to go up to the 09 as something else always needed the money!

I think we're talking about different issues here.

I currently have a SC-27, but had a SC-07 before that for about a year. It is true that through HDMI, you don't have OSD (On Screen Display, e.g. volume changes). But you do have HMG control and setup menu. As I understand jay4252's issues, it is the latter that is not working.

Yes there have been firmware updates toSc05 & 07 fix a few issues. Unfortunately, you need to bring it in to an authorized repair facility & have them do it. Check 1st to make sure they know how to do these updates. You can do searches on this topic.

I don't recall having any movie not play the audio correctly. Is there any particular title you could suggest I could play to see if I have this problem or not? Cause for me, having had multiple hernias through the years, I'd hate to have to bring mine in if not necessary, LOL.

I needed 5 FW updates 12-2010.

Pioneer SC 05 cannot decode DTS HD MA 2.0. Must switch Blu Ray player from Bitstream to PCM to get sound. Can decode other audio codecs. Pioneer says I need multiple firmware updates to fix audio issue. Service center can determine which FW updates I do not have & install all of them so unit is up to date.
