Official Pioneer SC-05 and SC-07 Owners Thread - Page 567

Hi all, I have the SC-07 and am curious to know if there is a way to play 3D content through the receiver. I haven't read anything on firmware updates for the system that include it. I am running an HDMI 1.4 cable through it but 3D still doesn't work. Any suggestions??

Thanks!
Not 3D capable. You need a Blu-ray player with two HDMI outputs to run one to a 3D TV and one to the receiver for sound.

All,

Had a question / issue with my Pioneer SC-05. I seem to get audio dropout (a stuttering) every now and then with Dolby Digital audio after pausing a movie. I've had the receiver for a long time, and read about firmware updates, etc. but wasn't sure if this even applied to me. I called Pioneer and all they said was take it to a service center, but I would clearly need to pay some kind of fee just to have them look at it.

Any ideas or suggestions? I wish there was a way to manually update the firmware on these, but I haven't found anything. I otherwise love the receiver, but this problem has been bugging me.

I was thinking of getting the SC-07 but after reading some comments from owners, the SC-07 seems to go dead after a few years of use. So is this not a reliable receiver? Or maybe the owners are not putting the SC-07 in a well ventilated area.

Also, if I buy the new SC-07, I need to do software updates at the local service center? I can not do a software update at home by using a USB thumb drive?

I've had an 05 for a little over 3 years. It's got at least 9,000 hours on it with no problems. Of coarse now that I've said that something is going to happen to it.

LOL!

I thinking if you put the receiver at a well ventilated area, the receiver should last many, many years. Like over 30 years.

I suppose if you abuse the receiver, that can make it go dead.

If you buy it new, what is the full warranty or how many years is the warranty good for?

I don't know what the warranty is but it's in a well ventilated area. Of coarse the Denon I had before this one died about a month out of warranty.

When you do a software update, do you need to take it to the Pioneer service center? Can you update the software at home using a USB thumb drive?

Never did an update.

Any model will have it's share of negative comments. I don't remember reading in this thread a lot of issues with the 07.

You say "the new SC-07"... Are there any places that still have unopened boxes? This model is over four years old!

And unfortunately, no, you cannot upgrade its firmware yourself (except the H.M.G. firmware). But I never needed to update mine.

Yes, the seller is selling a brand new SC-07 with full warranty. I am thinking he got it as a gift and never open it. What does Pioneer need from you in order to get the full warranty? Do they need a copy of the receipt?

Since this receiver about 4 years old, I am wondering if Pioneer will issue a full warranty for the SC-07. Long is a full warranty anyway? Is it 2 years or 4 years?
Anyone upgrade their 05/07 yet, and if so what too?
I haven't got the bug to upgrade since my SC 05 has been working flawlessly for over 4 years!
Same here, very happy with my SC07. I don't think I'll upgrade until another HT technology change comes about, like there was when bluray/1080p came out.
I'm not planning on upgrading until my 05 dies.

Is the seller a store or an individual? If it's an individual, don't expect any warranty from Pioneer, even if the box has never been opened. If it's a store, is it a Pioneer authorized dealer? The Warranty depends on the country. I'm in Canada, and if I remember correctly, we had 3 years warranty, and the U.S. had two.

I have a question for the SC-07. There is a feature called SW Input Gain. Right now it is set to +10dB. There is the other option to set it to 0dB.

Is everyone leaving the default setting which is +10dB?

Thanks for any advice!

Yes, it is an authorized dealer. I just received it and now I am trying to use it. It is a 2 year warranty from U.S.

I am confused right now on how to play blu-ray movies with the original sound track like DTS-HD Master Audio. The remote is quite confusing. How do I select the original sound format like DTS-HD Master Audio? Which button on the remote control do I select to get DTS-HD Master Audio while watch a blu-ray movie?

As described on page 94 of the manual, this is only useful when using the multi-channel analog inputs (the searcheable pdf of the user manual, available on Pioneer's site, is your friend!). If you're connected digitally, this setting has no effect for you.

Then you should be good to go. Just make sure you keep that official receipt from the dealer, to prove you really bought an SC-07 in 2014, should you ever need service in the next two years.

Which audio track is played is controlled by the Blu-ray player and the disc. Go into the movie's audio setup menu and select the audio track you want. If the player decodes internally, you will see "PCM" on the AVR. If the player sends bitstream, you should see the format name (DTS / DD /... ) on the AVR.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks Dan!

I wish there was away to make the LCD screen to stay light or lit up all the time on the receiver. The LCD screen only light up for about 1 second and you have to continually push any bottun to keep the LCD screen to stay light up so you can see what you are doing.

I was not able to find any information about turning ON the LCD screen on the receiver. I am not talking about the remote LCD screen.

To mantaraydesign post #16985:

You need to have an authorized Pioneer repair facility update your 05/07. Make sure they have done it b4. I did this for my 05 when I discovered it could not decode DTS HD MA 2.0! It could decode DTS HD MA; 1.0, 4.0, 5.1, 6.1 & 7.1. There were also some other fixes such as fix the remote power on issue where the unit will not respond to power button from the remote.

Mine was covered under warranty but, I think Pioneer may pay even after the warranty expires. Newer model Pioneer AVRs can do firmware updates online w/o a service call.

Until you get the firmware update if you have a Panasonic BD player:
change the BD player from bitstream to PCM.

This worked & I suspect is the work-a-round for anyone with this issue.

It is annoying to need to change the setting for one movie & then to remember to change it back to bitstream afterwards or else lose the ability to have your AVR decode the audio codecs for virtually any other BD or DVD.

Some DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 BDs:

Grumpy Old Men DTS-HD MA 2.0/ Grumpier Old Men /DTS-HD MA 5.1
Blair Witch Project DTS-HD MA 2.0
Bad Lieutenant - DTS-HD MA 2.0
Bloodsport - DTS-HD MA 2.0
Clash of the Titans (1981) - DTS-HD MA 2.0
Ancient Aliens:The Complete Season One - DTS-HD MA 2.0
PRESUMED INNOCENT/FRANTIC - both DTS-HD MA 2.0

Thanks hdcrack for the great information!

It would of been nice if Pioneer would let the customers do their own updates at home.

No one upgrading for 3D? Or is everyone using a work around with the dual outputs from a player.
Not that many are into 3D. If you do have a 3D TV then it is much cheaper to get a new Blu-ray player with two HDMI outputs than a new AVR.

Greetings,

Does anyone know what an approximate price point wouldbe for a mint used SC05? I will be replacing my VSX82TXS and really, am only upgrading to get the benefits of another HDMI port, and HD audio processing capabilities. Does this seem like a worthy replacement? SC05 seem like it has what I need and the ice amps to boot. Also, any leads on where to find one around 400 would be appreciated.

Thanks!

See "Dimming the display", p.99. Press the "Dimmer/[3]" button under the sliding door at the bottom of the remote.

Sc-07 issue.

We had people over for a party last night. We were playing music relatively loud but not terrible. Now all of a sudden I'm getting frequent but very brief audio drops. Any idea what this could be? It's happening on all digital sources that I have. Do not have any analog sources. They are very brief. Audio cuts out for a split second and then comes back perfect.
