Worst case, check out Bill or Will on videogon. They sell for a nice price, but will add shipping.

Sent you a pm

Before I continue I want to thank you in advance for all your hard work. I know some of your buddies here have moved on to the SC-09 world. I for one am glad you stayed

I don't upgrade very often as I have not even made the jump to HD. The SC is the first step in that direction. The SC will be replacing an old Sony DA80ES. I still have to upgrade the TV, and the DirecTV receiver (hopefully before the end of the year). My Definitive BP 2002,CLR 2002 and BP-1X are staying. Not sure what to expect once I get the SC all setup (audio wise). And I'm not sure if I should try bi-amping the speakers the SC.

Now the fun begins. I will definitely check out the first page of this thread.

No thanks required. We love this equipment.

Personally, as tempting as it was to jump on that deal for the SC 09, as I certainly seriously debated it, I don't need 10 channels. LCD OCD is certainly "cool", it isn't a "gotta have" feature for me. I've been more than pleased with my SC 05.

Questions are always welcomed.

Glad to help where we can.

For those who asked about 6th Ave, I've ordered other gear from them, but not any Pioneer Elite gear. I've been pleased in the past with their price and service.

But, do check with ROMANO from time-to-time at buybestplasma.com. He's an AVS sponsor, and although he stated there is no stock on the SC 05/07, you never know when some might crop up.

You just need to know what you want and have a good idea what it's worth. More often than not, they'll meet any price. For those that asked, they were selling the 05 and the 07 at just over 60% off retail and they do indeed ship anywhere. However, if you call a store, they do not seem to be in that loop and will not quote prices anywhere near these. Bang for the buck, nothing out there even comes close - even a lower priced SC-09. The more I use my 07 - the happier I am about my decision. It's the bomb!

Mike.....we really don't know. Fact is, Pioneer really plays it close to the vest when talking about new releases on their AVRs.

Here's what we do know........Pioneer announced some new BD players that have the capability to use PQLS over all channels. As of right now, the SCs are only capable of using PQLS over two channel. So, it would stand to reason that when the new Elite's hit the street, that would be the "big" feature update to coincide with the capabilities of the new BD players.

If Pioneer's history with AVR announcements is any indication, they would announce the new Elites (standard line AVRs are already out) sometime in the next 45-60 days. And, they'd hit the market sometime in August/Sept.

From a personal standpoint, aside from "all channel" PQLS (which would only be useable with Pioneer BD players), I can't see any major updates. Maybe expanded capabilities for I-touch/i-phone. I can't see them changing the amps in at least the SC series as they spent a lot of time and money on them. Maybe Dolby IIz capability? But, best I can tell, Dolby IIz has met with very tepid response. More HDMI connections?

It will be a month or two before we hear anything. Seems stock for at least the SC series is starting to get scarce according to reports, though.

I am sure even if they do come out with new receivers, you will not get them for any where near for what these are going for, which is exciting and a little worrying. Getting 60% off from a company, in which even several months ago it was difficult to get a 30% discount is a big deal. That's how heavy handed Pioneers approach was towards their dealers. Heck, when I went to 6th ave they were still trying to sell the 82tx's for almost as much as the SC-05, which means their cost from Pioneer was still pretty high on the 82tx. Just hoping they continue making these things, especially since I have two of them. They really are great receivers. It's just that Pioneer is acting like a company having a firesale, for almost all products(TV's, Receivers and BD players). I hope it doesn't mean more than than that.

Hi CHP_VR,

Sorry for the late reply, went out of town for a few days

I did get this working - thanks for your help. Instead of using the DVD input, I used DVR2 instead - works like a charm.

added reviews from Home Theater Choice (Tech Radar) for the SC-LX71(SC-05) and SC-LX81 (SC-07) (Five Stars) to the front page.
Thanks for the heads up, eyesofra

Hey Guys just wanted to let everybody know that I just ordered an 05 from 6th Ave. It took me three calls to get someone who would sell me one.
The 3rd guy i talked to was totally cool. They are still selling them at the same prices they were durring the name you price promotion. He told me they have (54) 05's and (10) 07's and wont be getting any more. I'm not sure how acurate that is, but I've been kind of kicking myself for not acting on the name your price deal and I wanted to make sure and get one before they are gone. If Pioneer does have some new Elites coming then you might wait a couple of weeks and get them further discounted....or they might be gone. I didn't want to chance it.

Actually, the X-overs are 50, 80, 100, 150 and 200
80hz is for THX settings/conformity.. but that's the most used, in general

Trying to get the receiver to read a Western Digital USB HDD without much luck (unless I'm just too impatient - definitely a possibility). Total of approximately 20GB in music in two separate folders, nothing else but pre-loaded setup files on HDD. File system is FAT32 straight out of the box - so that shouldn't be the problem. Drive has separate power supply, which is attached and functioning. When I first accessed HMG menu it sounded like the disk was spinning - 45 minutes later and nothing happens. I can't move the selection bar within the HMG menu, but can still play with audio settings and volume control. This is the first time I have hooked up the HDD, is this amount of time to "load" normal? If so, slightly frustrating - if it's a one time thing, great. If it's not normal, any suggestions?

Also, this forum is fantastic, and the advice of many of you helped me setup my current system:

60" Kuro
SC-05
Aperion 5 series all around
Samsung 1600 BD (waiting for the OPPO - my wife is THRILLED hehe)

I've also been sitting on the fence but would love to take advantage of the lower SC-05/07 prices. How can I get my best price from 6Save or elsewhere? Could someone PLEASE PM with who and how much I should request?
Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I did some research and found that the BDP that I own doesn't bitsream so this is why I'm not able to have the sc07 decode True HD, however I'm able to get PCM and allow the BDP do the processing. With the newest firmware downloaded I am able to get the True HD sound.
Until I upgrade to a BDP that bitstreams, this is the way I'm going to watch movies for now.

I have to say this receiver is incredible. I followed the instructions to take advatage of the Advanced version of the MCCAC. Prior to calibrating the acoustically challenged room, it had a tremendous amount of reveb from the sub, but th MCCAC eliminated the standing waves and has my sub producing bass I was unaware of. This calibration tool in itself is amazing. The front alignment, and symmetry setting brought everthing together, to give a detailed, full sounding front stage that I have never experienced. I must admit I was on the fence with this receiver, but after a couple of days toying around I am sold on the product. Simply put AWESOME.

Now onto the Streaming aspect of this receiver. Hopefully it won't be too challenging, I really want get this part dialed in, it is one of the reasons I bought the sc07.

Once again thanks for the help.

Gee, everybody else gets a PM with the math already done.
How do I get "about" 60% off of list? Just continue to call 6save until somebody cooperates? Thanks in advance for any help / advice.

Should just be plug and go, justinvanausdal..
One of the limitations is the number of songs under a folder cannot be over 2000..
You might want to check page 120 of the manual for anything that might be going on with your drive.

All I ever had to do was hit HGM, switch the slider to source, and select USB..

Last night I watched "Bolt" - I used Source Direct on the SC-05, and the sound was incredible!

A question though: When I switched to Source Direct from THX Cinema, the DTS light on the front panel went out (Bolt is DTS-MA 6.1), and it read "PCM". I'm using a PS3 and sending the signal LPCM to the SC-05. Why would it not show it was DTS?
the dts-ma signal is internally decoded in the ps3 and therefore sent out as LPCM to the sc-05. That's the reason it reads it as " PCM " . Technically it's the same thing as decoding the signal in the receiver itself.

Your SC isn't doing the decoding. That's why it's not showing DTS on the SC OSD. Your PS3 is doing the HD codec decoding and sending it out LPCM. That's what your SC is "seeing". Therefore, that's what's displayed.

EDIT....just saw "eyes" beat me to it.

Thanks, now I understand. But I'm pretty sure I saw "DTS" in really small letters before I switched to Source Direct - is this correct?
