My second display is a 2405 also, so that will be greatly appreciated if you can give it a quick test in clone mode. I don't have AnyDVD (yet... plus another $100!) but haven't had any issues playing DVDs in VMC w/HDMI to DVI via a 9600GT (HDCP compliant supposedly) on the 2405, thought for sure vista would give me grief.

Eagerly awaiting your next build pics!

This is great for people like me who are thinking of this board. Please post some BIOS screenshots of your settings as well as the temps you get.

Without getting too O/T that is one sexy looking case, I can;t wait till they are available in Australia. No fitment issues with the standard cooler?

Eagerly awaiting the results of any testing you are doing.

Will do. Vista installed without a hitch and SP1 is installing as I type this. Current config is an E8400 with 4GB of Crucial DDR-2 800 and a Raptor HD. Everything in the BIOS is at default settings for now.
Just as an aside, if you don't know, don't forget to do a cleanup after SP1 (run vsp1cln.exe). It deletes about 1GB. I didn't know this trick for a long time, now I just use a customized Vista dvd with SP1 integrated.

I'm up and running and posting from the P5Q. Installed Vista and SP1, followed by the Intel INF file, then the latest GFX drivers followed by the LAN driver from Asus. All is well and the install was very smooth.

Device Manager before and after shots:

Have to run. Wife is calling that dinner is ready...

I am dying waiting to start my build! The case looks great!

Is that unknown device after all chipset/driver installation? Did you install the intel storage driver before installing vista via floppy/thumb drive?
that's the Asus ACPI driver.... it's on the CD...

I actually install the ACPI driver first after doing an OS install. Then I do the rest of the hardware drivers, tuner last, and finally do the WUs.

Ordered mine today, can't wait to start building!

Hmm, I don't seem to be able to find it...

Some BIOS shots:

And a shot of the mobo info as reported by CPUZ. The mobo does indeed contain the latest 202 BIOS.

Great thread!

Side question: is it possible to fit a discrete video card (say, an AMD HD4870) in that case or does it only allow low-profile cards? It really looks nice!

That case only allows low-profile cards. Lian-Li makes the PC-C36 MUSE case, which essentially the same case, but with a small form factor power supply and a bracket that allows full height PCI-E x16/x1 cards (2 of them). In addition the DVD loading slot is different.

I own the PC-C36. As you notice in the PC-C37, the power supply overlaps with the motherboard. The PC-C36 power supply does not overlap the motherboard, allowing a full height card to fit sideways.

While I always admire Lian-Li's build quality (this case is my fourth Lian-Li case), the side panels are a little thin for my liking.

In addition you'll need a lower profile CPU heatsink/fan combo. I'm using a Scythe Shuriken (~64mm height) and it only has a couple of millimeters to spare.

True...
But you can also "update" the driver and point to the CD...

Newegg has them.

Hi there, sorry for this sidequestion but finally there is somebody who has this case. I was wondering about the noise from the casefans and the PSU. How do they compare to the Shuriken? Would be great if you could let me know.

I got the box hooked up to my Denon 3808 and Panny display. Sound worked right away. I then went in and changed from Stereo to 5.1. I then proceeded to run the built-in sound tests for Dolby Digital and DTS. Both bitstreamed to my avr as verified by the 3808 display. I was also able to test all the sampling rates from 32KHz up to 192KHz. Again, the 3808 display showed each sampling rate as I tested them. I should note that I never was able to get any of these tests to work with my Asus G35 mobo.

I installed the TMT Intro version and played a BD (Narnia) previously ripped and located on my media server. CPU usage was around 8%, and 5.1 LPCM was passed to the 3808.

Other than the latest drivers from Intel's site (and the LAN driver from Asus), TMT is the only application installed at this point after doing a clean install of Vista SP1.

Next I'll install the latest ffdshow built and test .mkv playing using VMC and MPC. So far everything has been working flawlessly.

Here are some additional pics of the case. It is indeed very quiet and I'm liking it more and more. Very compact mATX case, just perfect for this mobo as long as you don't need to add any additional cards.

I'm almost afraid to ask. I just noticed the PS2 port on the back of this mobo appears to have two colors and it is one plug? I looked on newegg and I don't see any kind of splitter for the two plugs (mouse and keyboard). I use a wireless keyboard that needs to see both the mouse and keyboard ps2 plug. Is this possible with this mobo?
I installed ffdshow rev2079 (8-15-2008) and madflac 1.8 and while my BD/HD-DVD .mkv rips all play flawlessly, there is no HD acceleration as my CPU utilization is around 50%.

I left all values at their default when installing ffdshow and I also didn't change any filter settings or anything like that in MPC at this time.

My TMT settings are as follows:

Yes, there is just a single PS2 port and you are correct that the mobo didn't include a splitter. The manual states that this port is for connecting a keyboard *or* mouse.

I went to do this and to my suprise I found that Vista apparently solved this on its own. Not sure how since I don't have updates turned on yet.

thanks a lot for the pics, and information, i just ordered my p5q-em and am anxiously awaiting to build my machine.

(continuing the hijack)
The case is quiet. From three feat away you can hear the fans, but they're not intrusive (unlike the same sized fans in my Lian-Li V880b case). I generally connect fans to the 5v header instead of the 12v header, but I won't bother with these.

I have the HTPC in a closed door cupboard so I don't hear it anyway.

If you have a longer DVD drive, it will partially block the fan on that side. I have the LG HD-DVD/BluRay combo drive and it does block the fan (a little).

The Shuriken is quiet, and keeps things between 40-48c. The fan is PWM 4 pin one and can be bought separately (it is the thinnest fan around at that size).

Anyway, to keep on topic. I'll probably end up getting this motherboard (eventually, after I get sick of the Asus 780g that I'm using now).

Just to re-iterate to people who are interested in these cases. There's the C37 & C36, the C37 allows full size power supply, but doesn't allow full wdith PCI-E cards. The C36 comes with a power supply, and allows full width PCI-E cards (length and height are different questions).

Are you in MPC or MPC-Home Cinema? I wouldn't expect HA to work in the former, but there is a possibility it might work in the latter.
