Sound System compatible with PS3 but nothing high-end

I'm looking for a sound system that includes the receiver but without the DVD player that I can hook up the PS3 into for greater sound quality. I don't need anything high-end, and of course I don't want a peice of junk. I've looked around but it's really hard to find a decent, cheap HTIB without a DVD player. I'm looking at around $200-$300

I've found this so far "Sony HT-DDWG700 5.1 Channel Home Theater System with iPod Dock"

First priority: sound system without dvd $200
Second priority: sound system with dvd $200-$300

Thanks!

I would change my priority to a sound system without DVD for $300. You have no need for the DVD and you will be able to get a much better sound system.

Thanks! I'll keep looking.

Also, what inputs/connections should I be looking for so my PS3 would be compatible? What would it be labeled as? They have so many technical terms for receivers.

Have you looked at the Sony HT-CT100 soundbar? It's not a full 5.1 surround system, but it's within your budget, and has all the features (I think) you're looking for, such as the ability to process uncompressed multichannel PCM audio from your PS3. There's a thread dedicated to it on this forum.

People are saying a lot of good things about it. However if you want true surround sound, and the ability for processing uncompressed multichannel PCM from your PS3 I'm afraid you'll have to go up in price. Take a look at the Sony HT-7200DH for about $500.

Oh, one more thing, i guess i'm not completely set, but i was looking at the Sony HT SS2300, and HT SS2000. the main difference i found between those two products and the Sony HT-7200 DH is that the 7200 has additional inputs, mainly video inputs/outputs.
With these video inputs/outputs provided, is it b/c of the dvd player that comes with it that needs to get hooked up to it.

I guess what I'm asking is why would video input/output be necessary?

Those extra inputs are just because it's a higher-end receiver. The higher you go in quality, usually means you'll have more inputs. For example in my system there's a TV, AV receiver, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Cable box/DVR, Ipod dock and DVD player. You want to make sure your receiver has enough connections to accommodate all your components.
