This site: http://www.dvdverdict.com/ used to review superbit upgrades, for example, AIR FORCE ONE: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/ai...nesuperbit.php

Some of my superbits (GATTACA, SILVERADO) seem a bit stingy with the disc sizes, but I haven't compared the images with the previous versions.

Try http://www.dvdbeaver.com/ for some extended analysis, and http://www.dvdcompare.net/ sometimes has interesting notes.

LEON has a complicated release history. See http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=467 and http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReviews7/leon.htm. My black-box "special edition" says superbit on the back cover, although I see nothing on the disc to support that. Severe compression artifacts or edge enhancement give it a sort of "glittering" appearance.

A key benefit to me of of Superbit is the DTS soundtrack, which unfortunately is absent from most DVDs these days.

However, with Blu-Ray coming along, my interest in upgrading to Superbit has waned to zero.

Why Superbit in the year of our Lord 2008?

Blu-ray CRUSHES Superbit.

Make the jump, and don't look back.

If you are a film buf, you follow the content. Of the four examples I listed, I believe only one is available on Blu-Ray.

Here is the complete superbit list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superbit. It would be interesting to keep a percentage score of these titles that become available on Blu-Ray. Since it was a Sony program, you'd think it would happen quickly.

And, of course, there are other well-mastered SD-DVDs. And a large catalog that would not much benefit from HD mastering. As long as content I want to see is not available on Blu-Ray, or is not improved on Blu-Ray, then the fact that Blu-Ray CRUSHES SD-DVD is not really relevent to those titles.

Oh, I was under the impression you were interested in the best PQ available.
