Hey guys, had anyone had any luck getting Sirius Internet Radio to work in Canada? I'm running 1.07 firmware and can't find the option to enable it anywhere.

Thanks.

Maybe its just me. Or my room acoustics. But I'm just tired of the look and sound. Maybe i'm just looking for an excuse to run up the credit card too. These monitors Had a different sound. A sound i liked.

It's been a while since anyone has posted anything about the infamous Motorola DVD 480i down-convert bug.

Honestly, if this was somehow fixed I would be 100% happy with my 3900.

Has anyone been told by Yamaha that they plan to fix this problem via FW. Better yet, any FIOS users out there that have a newer DVR (preferably not made by Motorola) that do not have this problem?

Regards,
Brian

I sampled some of these last night. Looking to get rid of my klipsche speakers. Need more highs. I sampled these monitor audio speakers and was blown away.

Check the Monitor Audio Threrad. A friend told me to listen to them when I was looking for speakers to go with my 3900. I have the full 5.1 set of the Silver series. The Gold series sounded better on some music, not with others -and was a lot more expensive. For music, the Monitors really shine on minimally processed ("pure audio" or "straight" 7 ch stereo), though you will certainly want eigher straight or processing for movies. Some have said the sub is not so strong - I like it a lot - provides full support without being overbearing. In any case, for speaker shopping, take lots of different kinds of music you like - I always make sure I have good piono and voice because they show off coloring - and let your ears be the judge.

Happy hunting.

Most iPod docks are analog, so you should be ok there. The tuner is exempt and will work with any zone, same with network audio/Rhapsody.

Shoot, that's too bad. I bought this receiver with the aim of eventually being able to route sound to the speakers on my back patio. The Zone 2 control seemed ideal for this. I don't ever see a need for running two different zones simultaneously from two differnt sources, but I would like to be able to turn my main zone on only OR zone 2 on only OR have both on. Kind of like the A, B or A+B speaker switch on my old receiver. Can I do this?

Also, most of my music is on an HTPC and is currently routed to the 3900 via HDMI. I can configure my pc sound to output analog to the 3900 if I want, but I get an annoying low level ac hum. Any idea how to solve that? Also, the analog output should carry all the same sound information as HDMI, correct?

I don't know wheather the this applies to the US but the RX-V1900 has just been discontinued in the UK. The replacement will be the RX-V2065 due in August/September. Just managed to grab myself one before they're gone

I'm not too surprised they're replacing the 1900 first, because it's based on an older design. It's basically the same as the 1800, whereas the 3900 was all new. We ought to be getting leaked specs of the 2065 soon if it's out in August/September.

Based on the cost cutting on the '65 series (speaker clips, non-assignable inputs) and the general trend of all new recivers reducing the older input connection count, I'm happy grab an older, proven and highly thought of model!

Apologies for asking what might seem a very basic question, but does anybody have any tips for network connection via an Apple Airport Express?

I'd normally expect any connected devices to automatically pick an IP address via DCHP. However, the AV receiver doesn't seem to be able to link up in any way.

FWIW, here's the basic network setup:

AT&T Road Runner cable
RCA cable modem (supplied by AT&T)
Mixture of Airport Extreme and Airport Express wireless stations
(And all computers on the network are Macs)

Thanks,

J

If you don't need multiple sources, you can buy a speaker selector box and use that. An impedance matching one is best, but the 3900 can handle two 8 ohm speakers on the L/R channels according to the manual.

This works just like the old A/B speaker switch did.

My 3900 is connected to my network via an Airport Express; getting it to find and use an IP address assigned by DHCP has been a fairly straightforward exercise. I have connected an Ethernet switch to the Airport Express, which lets me connect my TiVo Series3 to it, too.

Sorry, I just noticed your question. Since we aren't supposed to discuss pricing, I'll mention an integer with interesting digits: 1188.

My receiver is plugged into a switch which is plugged into an Airport Express which is bridged to a a Time Capsule and it works fine. Try manually assigning an IP address to the 3900. You will need it's MAC address to reserve the IP address on the Airport you use as the primary router.

I agree that assigning a dedicated IP address to the 3900 will eliminate the occasional glitch of DHCP assigning a new IP address after a reboot of the router. I haven't bothered with doing that, though, because in the greater scheme of things it has been easier for me to stick with DHCP.

Did you run an ethernet cable to it? If so, are you getting an ip address on the 3900? The 3900 does not have a built-in wireless adapter.

Are you using the Airport Express in WDS mode? That's the only way I've been able to use it in this situation... just checking.

I no longer use WDS by the way. Too many issues with WDS and Time Capsule (as in, it stops working if WDS is active on the network). It's an expensive fix though for me, as I had to buy the newer Airport Express units which can bridge without WDS.

Michael.. thanks for the tip...

I'm using an older g Express via WDS to connect my two DirecTv HR20's together to share video.. I am surprised it works as well as it does..

I haven't had the issues though with the Airport Extreme (N/Gigabit) and the older Express using WDS, but a bridge solution would be simpler and in the long run more stable.
I should have made clear that I am using a later model 802.11n Airport Express with my 3900. It is bridged, or in Apple's nomenclature, set to "Join a wireless network," instead of "Extend a wireless network."

Is this the beta software for the HR20's?

That's way too broad of a question.. you should try and find a match for your main LR's... it's always good to get a speaker with similar components to your others to get an easier timbre match.

It will probably be better answered in the speaker area under the thread for the manufacturer of your other speakers...

Hey, my questions is along the same line as Khwadi. I am going to be getting a 3900 by the end of the summer and want to slowly upgrade my speakers. I have athena AS-B2 (floors for the L/R and book shelf for the C SL/SR) I will have limited resources to upgrade. I only use the receiver for movies. If I was to upgrade my center first, what should I be looking for. Also can I use a hdmi splitter on one of the 3900's outputs?

Thanks

Is it possible to overly Yamaha's 3D Processing (using the the front presence / effects speakers) when listening to Dolby True HD/ DTS HD Master?

I have a Yamaha 3000 and it permits use of the front effects speakers with both DD and DTS. Wanted to know if you could do the same with the 3900 with the new Bluray audio formats.

Thanks.

I've had Monitors for about 6 years now and have been extremely happy with them.

Yes IF only 5.1 or less.
The rear surrounds of 7.1 OR presence fronts as still only 7 amps.
