I think the 3900 will only support 24fps for 1080p resolution, maybe turn on upscaling to 1080p on the source device if possible.



Yeah it could be an EDID issue, will probably be hard to isolate the exact cause if it is.

Feel like an idiot, I've been trying to find firmware updates ever since I purchased my rxv1900 . Would u mind posting a link for me ? Btw I am in Australia and would really appreciate it

No updates were ever released for the 1900, the ones listed earlier were only for the 3900.

That is a Good thing. I looked for updates before I purchased my 1900.

When I searched the Yamaha site and nothing... I figured there were

not any issues...HDMI switching, DTS Bombs etc. It seems like the AVR

that go online and or have more functions seem to need the the updates.

I was told the 1900 was a warmed over 1800/3800 but the 3800 is like the 3900

more functions I don't use. So far my 1900 has been like my 2003 RX-V2400

a plug and play. My 2400 is in the bedroom and still works Great, but no HDMI

or HD audio decoders or it would still be in the living room.

Well don't feel like such an idiot. It's a great unit except I've noticed some hdmi issues with my oppo93 but Oppo is updating firmware regularly anyway.

18 months of no problems but I have a less expensive($200.00) Samsung Bluray player that has updated it's firmware 2 times in the 2 years I have had it. So far no HDMI issues... knock on wood. The only time I had to re-boot the 1900 was a lip sync from playing it all day and going from Verizon FIOS HD TV to CD then back to Bluray several times that day.

I am getting into 3D land so I need to sell my beloved 3900. It is in perfect condition and has box, manual, remotes, everything that came with it. If you're in the market for a 3900, you can pick one up for a really, really good price. PM me if interested.

Does anyone know what has been updated in this firmware release? I downloaded the update and the PDF normally lists the updates. I don't see anything.

hi guys just got my 3900 back from repair (power amp board) my firmware is at 1.17 and now 1.18 and my sub woofer does not work now it turns on i have it set to sub woofer in settings am i missing something? or is my sub out RCA pooched?

any help would be great!

Here is the info from the firmware update files I have, I'm missing info for v1.09 & v1.17.
I included all the updates I have for reference.

You could get them from Yamaha websites, but most only have the latest version for that region.
The US site has v1.18, the Aus site v1.16 the Canadian site v1.16 as well.

SYMPTOM: 1. In some case during BD disc playback, intermittent audio is output while decoding
Dolby Digital.
2. In some case during MP3 music playback with USB drive, less than a second of

SOLUTION: Update to the latest firmware as shown below. Download the data from Yamaha AV

Personally v1.16 reduced 1 second video dropouts, that would occur with a Motorola Comcast Cable TV box every 45 minutes or so, to almost none now.

Anyway to do 7 channel output from the 3900 from multi-channel sources.

Example: Source BD in True HD, when sent to The RXV-3900, is there a setting in the 3900 somewhere you can turn on so it'll output 7 channels. I don't think there is, but I could be wrong. The 3900 has only 2 THX output modes Nueral and ? and the 3900 is not THX cert.

For comparison: with a Pioneer Elite SC-37, I can enable, (Pg . 117 of it's manual), THX audio setting is set to "ON" and "Manual", then you can select THX output modes that will output multi channel sources to 7.1 channels instead of 5.1 like a some True HD and Master Audio encoded sources are.

Hope that's clear and just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head.

Yes, Dolby Pro Logic IIx (PLIIx). Many people with 7.1 systems use that for 5.1 sources. It doesn't mess with the front channels, just steers the two surround channels to four surround speakers.

Yes, the 1900 supports PLIIx just like the 3900. For 5.1 sources you need to change EXTD SUR. from AUTO to PLIIx Movie (there's a dedicated button on the remote labelled EXTD SUR.).

duh. tired. Grand Kids wore me out this week end. I forgot about the Extd Sur. button on the remote.

Well I had to go back to Yamaha after a brief flirtation with a Denon 2312CI that replaced my RX-V2095. The Denon did not have enough power or stamina to drive my Vienna Acoustic Waltzs. My 2095 drove them easily without a hiccup, but the Denon gave up after 1 month even though it was never pushed past 20dBs.

I brought back the Denon and found that the store had their RX-V3900 Demo left and had it heavily discounted. It sounds great and I am glad I came back to Yamaha. I installed my YDS-12 IPOD Dock and am a happy camper.

The Airplay on the Denon never worked as well as I had hoped, and even though the GUI looks better, it did not work better! The 3900 has worked flawlessly so far and I am still learning it's nuances. I am afraid I will be a Yamaha addict for life now.

Me too, my Onkyo 805 HD died and I have a 2003 model that still works (bedroom now) RX-V2400 (non HD or HDMI) so I found a RX-V1900 that had Best Buys extended service policy and 1 year left on Yamaha warranty :-) I never stack on a AVR and added a fan in the rear of the cabinet now just to make sure.

Does anybody know if it's possible to disable the front panel buttons i.e. volume and input selector due to an extremely curious 10 month old son ;-)

Bored(retired) I will read my 1900 owners manual....... we have Grand Kids......... sold tube seperates several years ago when the kids thought the tubes were rocket ships......Blast Off.... jerk out a tube and run around the room like it was a rocket ship.......sigh. I was in the back yard 5 minutes, wife went to shower..... 3 year old see's tubes........... I should have built a shelf and got them up out of their reach... my fault. DVD with 5.1 was getting much better and flat screens were cool..went AVR and added more Klipsch speakers.Blurays and HD AVR now kids love the subs in small den on Blurays. Miss my McIntosh.oh well it needed maintance before the NASA launch

I have a grand son who loves buttons also.

It's a 3900, I think I might have to resort to duct tape (on the amp for clarification). Only worried it will leave marks. As it is now the sound is either screaming high or whispering low and picture if lucky, what can it be ? 1 in 10 chance my kid picks the right input.
The amp itself is to large to hide inside bench and to low to be out of reach. The other stuff I can hide inside the bench.

It's time for hifi companies to think about parents and there needs :-) it shouldnt be to hard to implement a disable function.

3M painters tape does not leave anthing on the unit. Install a fan if your going to enclose any equipment.

Hi guys, long time since I've seen this thread, My 3900 still working Great almost 3 years now.

Anyone have a source for cheap replacement remote controls?
I wore out the contacts in my volume control (up and down) everything else works fine.

I've been waiting forever and the prices finally dropped below $200 here.

Go to Ebay. and enter remotes, I found a vendor with several hundred used remotes that were less then 15 bucks. Found one for a 15 year old Sony DVD player last year.
