Kuro Elite 111 vs. Panasonic TH-46PZ850U

Need help with this. It feels the 46" Panny would be a better fit for the room.
The 50" Kuro with the speakers on the side ( which I need) seems so huge to me. I haven't seen the sets side by side but the Kuro is getting such rave reviews. Any thoughts from people who have spent time with both as far as picture quality and relative size. I sit around an 8' distance from the screen.

Thanks!

I have the 111fd and simply love it. The kuro is simply amazing. I've never seen the 850 but I did have the 800, the set was all kinds of meh. I didn't look good during the day, as the screen is a shade of greyish brown so all the blacks look greyish brown whenever there is ambient light, I didn't look good at night as it still glows, not as bad as an lcd but it was quiet a few steps behind the pioneer.

That being said have you considered a 5020 (if side speakers/width is an issue) it's a solid set and I have one of those as well the picture quality is definetly miles ahead of panasonics (at least in my opinion).

i'm curious, considering the Panasonic is considered 2nd only to a Pioneer. If it was all kinds of meh, then what set would you get if you could not get a Pioneer?

Are you actually planning to use the tv's speakers?

Samsung A650 is a good alternative if price is your concern.
OR 8G Pio if you can find one.

I have the 110FD and 150FD and can't recommend them enough, and I did own one Panny 50 inch. IMHO you will keep the Pioneer much longer since the pic is so good so figure the cost per year in any comparisons. As for size that's another matter but 50 would be max at 8 feet. If you have a CRT now keep in mind that the flat screen will be further back.

111FD is an amazing unit. Since you mentioned you have not looked at them closely I would do that and see what you think. It depends on your budget as well and you can take a look at the 5020FD too.

I haven't thought about the 5020 because of the fact that it can't be calibrated.
Although, if i'm in love with the picture as is, i may not feel the need for calibration. Are the speakers on the bottom of the 5020? Maybe I could put
the speakers of the 111 horizontally across the bottom of the set.

I'm surprised the Panny 800 only looked fair - it seems to be recognized as a fab set.

Alkrio, since you have both the 111 and the 5020 can you describe the the differences
for you in quality?

Thanks all

If money is no object get the Elite 111, I doubt there is anyone on this forum has seen the Kuro Elite and a 850 side by side. The thing they both have in common is more tweaking options for your display that can have a dramatic effect on your display without having to go into the service menu (doing so might void the warranty, not to mention SM are rather archaic and are not for the faint hearted).
If you really like tweaking your plasma then the Panny 800 and non Elite Kuro will be disappointing in their limited controls, the 5020 even has the gamma adjust removed which as a far as I am concerned blows.
