Can anyone say how the picture on this player compares to the BD-UP5000?

Er, it does. When you press play the picture will reappear and after a couple of seconds the movie will resume.

It should be very close if not exactly the same. Both use the same exact chipsets.

The advantages of 2500/2550 over 5000 are:
(1) BD-R/RE support
(2) AVCHD support
(3) Can play 4:3 SD DVDs without strech them.
(4) Support BD-Live
(5) Support Netflix streaming (+ Pandora if you get 2550).

The disadvantage of 2500/2550 compared to 5000 is
* You can't play you HD DVD collections

Fantastic four: silver surfer would not play in my 2550. Disc is from Netflix and appears to be in perfect condition. Anyone else have a problem with this particular movie? I have had the player for 3 months and this is the first problem with any movie.

Is anyone else having an issue with Netflix streaming on the 2500? It was working fine but then after the most recent firmware update (I think), about 50% of the time now when I try to stream a movie, the entire screen messes up, distorting the picture into jagged horizontal lines. It does this on the movie and then continues when I stop the movie and go back out to the menus. I can only recognize the menu screen it's supposed to show by the colors (red/white/black for the Netflix screens or blue for the Samsung home screen). The only way I can fix it is to turn the unit off and then back on and try again. Sometimes it will work fine then and sometimes it does it again, I just have to keep powering off and on until the Netflix streaming works OK again.

Any ideas?

Or I guess one could also look at it this way. If one is not a netflix customer and wants to add streaming then I guess the cost is $9 per month. But in this case then one should consider the disc rentals via the mail as free - or a value added service to the streaming fee.

Either way it is a great deal.

Ok, this is a trivial distinction, a trivial discussion, but since we had to upgrade our netflix subscription to a somewhat costlier, unlimited movies per month status, the streaming feature was not completely free. But it is a small cost, so the main point is it's a great deal!

It doesn't do it every time, but sometimes it tries to force Netflix into 24FPS mode when it should show 60, and the screen looks garbled. It never did it with 2.3, so I did report the bug to Samsung, but I can avoid it altogether by ensuring all disks are ejected prior to starting the Netflix streaming or disabling the 24FPS mode.

I'll bet so, I've been meaning to test that.... will do as soon as I'm there and remember.

Thanks!

As discussed before, you need to turn off 24fps mode in order for Netflix to work correctly in 2.4 firmware.

I am going to check out my network settings on my router to see if I can fix my Pandora issues. I did notice that I did not get prompted to update the firmware after I hooked it up to my network, (I just updated it via USB drive) so maybe I need to make sure my firewall is setup to allow pings.

I had the exact same problem streaming "House on Haunted Hill" about two weeks ago. It just didn't work. Horizontal tearing throughout the picture. I left the movie in my queue and tried it again on Saturday and it played flawlessly. Go figure.

I've never had 24fps enabled. I have a 720p display so it won't even allow it, but I have also experienced this with one movie, the horizontal tearing of the picture. Unwatchable.

Hey gang,

Sorry if this has been answered before in this thread but I can't seem to find it and am hoping for a quick answer!! LOL

I can use both 24fps or 60fps but what is the difference?? Which one should I be using??

TIA!

Hi all~~

I am having a terrible time with firmward v2.4 on my 2550. Some BR discs play fine, others are not recognized.

I did not have this problem with v2.2, but don't have a copy on disc to revert to.

I have been talking to Samsung for over a week, and they still have not been able to come up with a solution to either make v2.2 available for re-download or send out a disc.

Does anybody have a copy of the v2.2 iso they could upload to my ftp site?

I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks~~

Todd

For those of you considering using this router bridge combination for Netflix streaming, it works, but not with the default settings. The D-Link rep had me change it to channel 11 and 100 mbps an all was good. Out of the box I got 5 to 10 bars, after the tweeks I get 13 bars and HD every time.

I just picked up the Samsung 2550 and i'm hoping to get insight on what's the best way to set this unit up for upconverting. i don't quiet understand how upconversion works and which unit is actually doing the upconversion

I'm currently running the folloiwng setup.

Samsung 2550
Onkyo sr706
Samsung LN52A650

The 2550 is connected to my receiver via HDMI along with my xbox 360 and then i have my receiver connected to the tv via hdmi.

When playing Sd dvd's which component is actually doing the upconverting? Is there a preference of having the blu ray player doing the upconverting vs the onkyo or vice versa?

TIA

I have been trying to get these divx-subtitles work..does anyone have idea what to do? I have noticed that subtitles work almost perfectly at the first minutes of the movie but later on it feels like the player can't keep up with the subtitles and that's why some lines are missing.. Any suggestions/ideas?

Can somebody tell me how I can stop a blu ray movie and be able to continue where I left off (after a power off). So far many of the movies watched, i don't think the bookmark work or at least I don't know how to use it .

For some (unknown) reason that is apparently not true for everyone. I have 2.4 on a 2550 with 24fps mode enabled and Netflix streaming works fine (for both SD and HD), and I believe others on this forum have said the same.

I have 2.0, 2.1, and 2.3 for the 2550 (the USB versions, not the ISO files), but I never knew there was a 2.2 (and the Samsung download page for the latest version (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/do...d&menu2=detail) does not list 2.2 in its BD-P2550 Firmware Update History section). Anyway, if you want any of the ones I do have, send me your FTP site address via PM (or post it here if you don't mind publishing it to everyone).

I have a similar setup (sr606 and 2550). Set the 2550 to output 1080i, set the sr706 HDMI settings under "hardware setup" to "through". This sets the receiver to just pass the hdmi video signals through witout any upconversion.

You will definitely want to use the 2550 for your upconversion, it is one of the best upconversion players on the market and the Onkyo upconversion is terrible.

As far as audio decoding, it is a toss up as both will work, but if you are using BDs with additional audio tracks and effects then you will want the 2550 to do the decoding if you want to hear them.

With that particular Samsung HDTV, wouldn't you want to set the 2550 to 1080p (NOT i) and connect the player directly to the TV via HDMI? Might as well go all the way with the HQV chip.

Thanks to BD-Java, the bookmark function doesn't work for all discs and you can't always resume. This is actually mentioned in the 2550 manual (in small print), and I didn't think to look until I wondered why my bookmark function wasn't working either. They didn't do a very good job with compatibility when they wrote the Blu-Ray spec (or we wouldn't need firmware updates every once-in-awhile just to play certain discs).

I got the player for picture quality...not necessarily the extra features. That being said my 2550 has only given me one non-repeatable "stoppage" with Rambo (new one). Everything else has worked just fine, except for a few minor bugs (i.e. a little bit of judder on particularly old Blu-Rays...i.e. Young Guns). Just curious if 2550s and 2500s would exhibit the same issues seeing as the only difference is supposed to be Pandora.

I have lots of non repeatable stoppage (seriously) and the discs are considered new.

Could it also be a problem running through a receiver? Maybe it becomes an issue with the frame-rate swap running through a receiver.

I also have a TX-SR606 with a 2500 connected to it and set to 720p output. If you look at the last page in the manual (Video Resolution Chart) it shows that HDMI inputs, no matter the resolution are passed through. The only signals that are processed will be the other non digital connections, which will then be sent through HDMI up to 1080i for the 606 and 1080p for the 706.

I use the Component input on the 606 with my HR21-700 for the Edge processing because my 720p TV does a poor job of deinterlacing. The smoothing of edges removes a lot of jaggies.

Alert! How to get rid off "Bonus View" on-screen message, the easiest way.
When the message appear, press "Audio" on your remote, then press "Cancel" on your remote. Voila, gone! Anytime you skip chapters or do something different than normal playback watching, it will reappear; just redo these two simple push-buttons on your remote, and gone again! About that? How do you feel now?, better than James Brown? Let me know, I'm curious.
This simple solution is good with all Samsung blu-ray players with profile 1.1 or more.
Me too, like tons of people was frustrated when I first notice this flaw; now you can have your on-screen display enabled on your set-up menu and just go with the flow.
I never read anywhere about this very simple solution. Anyone knew about that one? The other solutions were more complex and annoying.
Please don't be shy to tell me what you think, and if it makes your life easier?

My best regards, Bob
