Thanks.

That's what I did. Choose Samsung and the model number. I did have to tweak a few buttons to get it to fully work correctly. In my case, my 610 has hard buttons for Red, Green, Yellow and Blue along with most other functions. I used the selectable "soft" buttons for the Pop-Up, Bookmark and Disc Menu and Eject functions.

I also manually added controls for volume to the BD function set that control my AVR. I'm not sure why it didn't add that function to all devices since it specifically asked me how volume would be controlled. Instead, it left the volume controls blank for any device that doesn't normally have them (BD, DVR, etc.). I didn't want to have to switch modes to raise or lower the volume, so I applied it to all devices.

I had a similar situation with a URC R50 I just bought, but at least they had SOME Blu-Ray code sets built-in. The weird thing is most of "soft" buttons worked (a/b/c/d/etc) but the PAUSE and STOP keys didn't (go figure), so I just programmed them into the existing key.
These players are too new for a lot of universal remotes.

i added the Pioneer 51d to my 720. It was listed in the Harmony data base. Suggest you send them an e-mail and ask when the Sammy will be added.

Thanks.

Did you have to add it under DVD though? I did end up adding it under DVD but not sure if most of the buttons work since I don't actually have it.

Going into the settings menu and enabling 24f every time we watch a Blu-ray or DVD is kind of irritating.

Anyone else have this problem?

That's a well known issue that many users have with firmware 2.4. There are two solutions to this problem, 1) Disable 24p, or 2) Install firmware 2.3. Both solutions work perfectly though option 1 will still give you 24p video.

I personally am using firmware 2.3 and all appears to work well.

Yep. All Blu-ray and HD-DVD players are listed under DVD.

I don't remember!!! Give me until tomorrow to replicate my steps. All I remember is that it went extremely smooth, which is why I do not recall what I did.

Once it comes back on I go back into the Blu Ray player menu and the 24fps is back to off. I thought I read in this thread that the TV could do 24fps. Am I doing somthing wrong? Thanks again. Jon

You've got an Onkyo/Integra which has handshake issues. If you want to use 24fps through the AVR you'll have to search this thread for the workarounds.

Make sure you also contact Samsung because they are more likely to issue a firmware fix than Onk.

Since the Netflix HD movies are at 720p/24fps does anybody know if these Samsungs player can scale these and output at 1080p/24fps?

If so, that would be a good reason to put my old PS3 on eBay and buy one of these players.

Should I pick up the 2550 for 320? or get the 3600 for 80 dollars more. Is the 2550 master hd upgradable?

Get the 2550. It is not known if the 3600 has the Reon HQV chip (and, if it did, you'd think Samsung would want to advertise that fact!), and you DEFINITELY want this for SD DVD and Netflix streaming playback. And, yes, firmware update 2.4 will enable DTS-HD MA decoding to the analog 7.1 outputs. (The 2550 will bitstream DTS-HD MA via HDMI even with the original 1.0 firmware, so you don't need that firmware update if you have a capable AVR -- many people believe that the 2.3 firmware is more stable than 2.4, although I've had no problems with the latter. But I don't use Pandora on the 2550 since I have a Sonos system for that.)

I bought the 2550 a week ago and it works great, I have it wired with ethernet and netflix, but last night right after watching a movie I got a message on screen saying there is new firmware for my player and asked if I wanted to update now. I wasn't sure so I hit no, should I have let it update ?
present system info is
SW 081017.02_111208B0_1254.08_XXA
region code A/1 BD/DVD

what firmware is this and should I let it update ? I have read where some guys have gone back to previous firmware

I just got a 2500 yesterday and cannot get Dolby to my older Yamaha receiver. I switched from PCM to the two Bitstream settings with no luck.

The DVD I was testing with was Love Guru which only has Dolby True HD. In the manual it states:

"When the player outputs HD audio bitstream(Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio) from the Optical jack to an HDMI 1.3 receiver, only 2 channel PCM audio will be heard."

I'm not sure exactly what this means. Does this mean to get Dolby True HD you have to have a receiver that has HDMI?

I still need to test with an older movie that has plain dolby digital 5.1.

I have not upgraded firmware yet on the 2500.

The yamaha works with dolby digigital and dts.

My setup:

DirecTV>hdmi>Philips LCD TV>digital coax>Yamaha htr5240 receiver = Dolby Digital

Samsung 2500>hdmi>Philips TV>coax>Yamaha = no Dolby Digital

Samsung 2500>hdmi>Philips TV and Samsung 2500>optical>Yamaha = no Dolby Digital

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I am in the same boat. I haven't upgraded yet because I wanted to see how everything worked before I did the upgrade so I could attribute any problems to the new firmware. Plus, looking at what is in the new firmwares, the only thing I see that I would want is the HD Netflix streaming... so I am thinking I will upgrade eventually from the 2.0 just not right away.

yes TrueHD and DTS-MA can only be sent over HDMI. Of course you can let the player decode the audio and send it to the receiver over analog. This is one of the features of this player is that it allows you to get these current audio sources without needing a receiver with HDMI. The trick is you have to use the analog ports and not the optical.

Your firmware is 2008 October 17 (081017), the newer firmware is 2009 January 6, this is version 2.4. Some people think that the older version 2.3 is more stable.

People have successfully updated their firmware via broadband. Being a very conservative computer person, I updated mine by USB technique. I believe that is the most reliable method for this device. I also have a wireless repeater bridge setup and sometimes that gets interferences from other 2.4 GHz devices in the vicinity.

The latest firmware works fine for me ( Pandora and Netflix).

I also just noticed this in the manual:

If the HDMI device (Receiver, TV) is not compatible with compressed formats (Dolby digital, DTS), the audio
signal outputs as PCM.

I have a Philips 47PFL7432D/37 which the owner manual says is compatible with dolby digital but I need to check the settings to make sure it's enabled. Since I'm getting the dolby fine via DirecTV I'm guessing it's on.

Unfortunately, my receiver has two opticals, one coax but no 7.1 or 5.1 analog inputs....

The only analog inputs are stereo.....

Looks like I might be screwed for TrueHD.

I still need to check to see if Dolby Digital 5.1 will work...

Get 6 RCA cables and hook the outputs of 2500 to the 5.1 inputs on your 5240 and let the 2500 decode for you.

From the Yamaha website..........

"DISCRETE 6-CHANNEL LINE INPUT
High quality performance today and ready for tomorrow. The HTR-5240 can easily accept the decoded output from any 5.1 channel surround system, whether it's MPEG-2, the new DVD Audio, or a system not yet developed."

Yes, I just looked at the HTR-5240 manual online and the analog 5.1 inputs are in the upper-left of the rear panel, labeled "EXTERNAL DECODER INPUT".

OK, I'm an idiot, it does have analog inputs, I took quick look yesterday and did not see them on the back.

Just took look at manual online and the inputs are labeled external decoder inputs.

I'll try this tonight and post the results.

Thanks!

I dropped my Sony for this Samsung. So far, loving it. Yet to have issue with Blu-ray or DVD. DVD looks awesome on the Samsung.

I picked up a 2550 the other day to and was wondering what would be the best way to hook it up to my receiver.

I currently have a Denon AVR-3805 which does not decode DTS-HD.

Would it be best to hook it up via the analog outputs on the 2550 or from the optical out? Also what setting would be recommended for the sound output, PCM or one of the bitstreams?

Thanks

I would use the analog outputs if I was you. The analog outputs will allow you to experience the DTS-HD and DolbyHD sound formats. Those sound formats can not be sent over the optical output. You would want to set your Samsung to output the sound as PCM. The Samsung player will decode the sound formats and send them to your A/V receiver through the analog inputs as a PCM signal. You should set your speaker size to either large or small depending on the size of your speakers in the Samsung menu. Most A/V receivers allow you to do settings for the 5.1 or 7.1 analog inputs such as distance. You want to do these settings through the A/V receiver. I hope this information and advise helps.
