I also didn't get the 2550 because of how well it decodes audio tracks. I got it for it's video quality and DVD upscaling (which it does very well). I also got my XBox360 for it's gaming capabilities, not because it could play HD-DVDs... Let the components shine in their respective area's. I'm not 18 anymore, I can afford to buy great components and don't need an all in one toaster-coffee maker-orange juice squeezer..

I'm picking up a 2550 from BB today, so I'm trying to read through the thread.

This is a great quote you got here Steve....I couldn't agree more.

But I have to admit...my Ronco "all in one toaster-coffee maker-orange juice squeezer" is pretty dang sweet !!!!

Yesterday i got the 2550 from bb at the sale price. After getting it setup and doing a quick blu ray test with 'Live Free or Die Hard' and 'Serenity' on SD I did the firmware update via the hardwire ethernet. The update process took around 10 minutes. After powering up the player I now have the netflix and pandora menu choices. The setup on their web sites was simple and the content did link to my existing accounts.

The netflix streaming worked perfect, and the pandora option is great too. I can't comment yet on PQ for netflix. Movie startup time is only about 30 seconds.

My only issue was that dhcp did not seem to work so I manually entered addresses for its ip, gateway, and dns servers.

This seems like a great product and I'm looking forward to next weekend when I can actually sit down and watch a movie!!

I have no issues with DHCP. It may be something with your router.

In my case I just plugged in the ethernet cable going to my router and it was online instantly, no configuring needed at all.

I'm really loving this player. Last night I watched a standard def. DVD and it looked really great. The upscaling is amazing!

I am coming off of a new gig switch that is hardwired to my router. I did plug in a laptop to test the link and it did get network access so i would guess it has to be something in my setup with the router. At least i was able to manually enter the data and get on the net.

I do have an xbox 360 connected to the switch too. I'll have to see if it works or not.

I am considering buying the BD-P2500 (or BD-P2550), but had been waiting for deals. Now, with the possibility of Netflix streaming, price seems less important.

My problem is: this would be a bedroom hookup, and my computer (with FIOS internet and ActionTec wireless-capable router) is located about 40 ft. away. Question: is there a way to tap into my computer setup wirelessly to watch Netflix shows thru the player, or must I buy and drag a lo-o-o-ng cable to my bedroom? Thanks for any expertise on this matter.

Just bought the BD-2550 and it's the shizzle. Netflix PQ is pretty good, and pandora is great. Check the alt country station for some good music. I can't wait to try a blu-ray disc and play with the settings.

Yeah!

Or you could do what I did and run a 50 ft. ethernet cable along the baseboard to the other room. I pass it through a wall via a cable jack that was on both sides, which worked out well.

Is anyone else having a syncing issue between the sound and video on netflix movies?

Also, I tried to find an updated manual for the 2550 because the one in the box does not include info about netflix. Any ideas?

Download it from the Samsung site.

Anyone had problems with Dolby EX tracks locking on? I was watching Star Wars Empire Strikes Back and the very first sequence would not lock onto the Dolby 5.1 EX signal. It just kept blinking. I had to fast forward to get it to work. I figured I would have problems with Blu Ray's maybe, but DVD's? BTW I am bitstreaming all audio to a Denon 3808CI.

I got this player Sunday at BB with the price drop. I have to say I am loving it. My wife had netflix and she loves that feature and now she is also hooked on Pandora! And all this is before the fact that it's a Blu-ray player! Finally time to get rid of the HD-DVD (RIP...I hardly knew ya!).

I did notice the audio/video sync issue with netflix...we watched the Office and it was pretty obvious. I can adjust the delay with my receiver and I got it close, but it was a little annoying to deal with. Video quality was great though...just below DVD quality.

Very glad Samsung came out with this or I might have gotten the LG BD300 and from what I hear the video quality on Blu-ray and upscaling is not nearly as good as this player.

Hi all, I recently bought a BDP-2500 from CC a few weeks ago. Now, I'm wondering if I should return it with in the 30 days and go grab a BDP-2550 so that I can have Pandora as well.

What differences are there between tbe BDP-2500 and BDP2550? As far as I knew they were identical, except the x50 was the Best Buy branded model.

Secondly, is there any word if Pandora would be available for the BDP-2500 down the road!

Thanks!

I probably would if you still can. I believe the only difference is Pandora but Pandora is quite cool.

Has anybody been able to compare the Blu-ray PQ quality between the new panasonics (25/55) vs. this sammy? I know that the SD DVD PQ is better on the sammy, but folks just seem to raving about the blu-ray pq on the panny.

I'm trying to decide between the two (and the BD oppo, but that's taking forever), and if PQ is neglible, than in my opinion the extra features of the sammy would make it the winner.
2500 vs 2550, the only real difference is Pandora (other than different graphics on the front). I believe BestBuy has some dealings with Pandora, so that's why the BB specific 2550 has that other (and yes it's a nice bonus)

Panasonic Vs Sammy...I looked at the side/side briefly in the store and couldnt notice any difference (so neglible I would say)...the netflix/pandora/better upscaling definetly tipped the scales for me
post #528 of 7056
Yes, Best Buy is an advertiser/sponsor of Pandora.

Heck, even if the Panny is slightly better at Blu-Ray picture quality (and I'm not saying that it is, I don't know), the Samsung would still be the one to get for the superior standard DVD picture quality and the Netflix and Pandora!

Does this player decode over 7.1 analog DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby True HD, and DTS-HD MA?
Below is the new firmware and upcoming firmaware updates. On-board decoding of DTS-HD HRA but DTS-HD MA is still bitstreamed and will not be updated via firware because the internal Broadcom chip is unable to upgrade to do DTS-HD MA internally.

BD-Live firmware upgrade:
Netflix feature upgrade:
Netflix/Pandora feature upgrade (2550 only)
DTS-HD High Resolution Decoding: 10/30 (both players)
I have a question about the audio. My AV receiver is a bit older but can do both Dolby Digital and DTS, but when I play a Dolby True HD track (via optical digital), I can indeed hear the audio. Does this mean that I'm getting True HD bitstreamed?

Also, how about through the 5.1 analog inputs? Is this any different or better quality?
Your Blu-ray player is downconverting the Dolby TrueHD audio to Dolby Digital for output over the optical cable. Without knowing what your player and receiver are, no way of telling you if the player's analog audio outputs are better. But in all likelihood they aren't.

Yep, Pandora is pretty nifty. I just learned about it a few weeks ago (gf got me hooked on it). And it would be nice to have a mult-functional device that gets used more than once a week.

Thanks for the feedback!

No to DTS-HD MA, but yes to the rest.

Anybody hook up their 2550 wireless? If so, what device did you use and how is the netflix picture? Was it hard to setup? I have WRT310N wireless access point and hope to use it to connect to the 2550.

Thanks.
Any news how to make the dvd-player in this region free?

I successfully got mine running wirelessly last night. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G2 (wireless router) with a Linksys WGA54G (wireless game adapter / bridge) and though it was a little tricky setting the thing up with the wireless bridge in the end everything works great! I notice no lag or quality loss either. I preferred the WGA54G because its smaller than a regular wireless bridge and its black so it blends in better.

I saw some comment on NewEgg stating that the range was a bit limited. I'll have about 50 feet and 3 rooms to traverse from my Fios router. Do you think that would work or have any other ideas?

If distance is the big issue I can only recommend looking around for a bridge that will meet your need. I was reading on the web that some individuals have purchased a 2nd Wireless router and config'd it as a bridge. The other bonus I can see with that is you'll be able to connect more than 1 item wirelessly in your home entertainment center. I actually would've gone that route had I not already spent $99 on my XBOX 360's wireless adapter 6 months ago. The Linksys WRT54G2 is $49.95 so for 100 bucks and some cat 5 cable I could've connected both my 360 and BDP2550 with other LAN ports to boot. Instead I spent $49.95 for the WRT54G2, $99.95 for the XBOX 360 wireless adapter and $79.95 for the WGA54G Game / Bridge Adapter. Damn, I could've used that money on some Blu-Rays
