Or, more likely, the firmware/system software uses some open source code that has to be sited to conform with GNU licensing or similar?

Maybe their app store is coming to the 2500/2550.

I believe it may be possible to stream video by using a bd-live connection. I heard somewhere that this is how netflix it streaming to the PS3. They send you a disk that you load into the playstation and zap, you are connected.

This software allows streaming on any Blu-ray player that supports BD-Live as I understand the announcement starting with the OPPO BDP-83.

There is a discussion of this at this thread:

Just couldn't take it anymore and decided to "jump ship". Contacted Square Trade this afternoon and already received UPS shipping label. My sad little BD-P2550 is all boxed up and ready to go out on tomorrow's Brown Truck. After $50 deductible, my reimbursed check will be for $190. That is more than what I payed for it on Ebay last year. Now to decide on what decent BD-player to put this money toward. Not sure if I can wait on Oppo or not.

What do you mean by, "wait on OPPO"?

I was hoping that the new model that Oppo was going to announce this month would be available within reasonable amount of time but, I'm not sure how long before that will actually be. The price is supposed to be a lot less than their model 83.

Thanks, I hadn't heard that a new one was coming out. Any streaming functions advertised?

Without going through all the posts has anyone had the audio and video section of the menu show---no menus found. My player will play dvd's , but not blu-ray discs, but even the dvd's show this same message. Any thoughts? Thanks.

None of my BD-P2550's have exhibited that problem. Have you called Samsung? There is a forum section on CNET where you can ask questions to Samsung technicians and get help. I wish Samsung and other companies would offer a similar program over here.

I hooked up my Samsung BD-P2500 to Netflix using a Netgear Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit (XAVB101 model - 200Mbps). I had to reset the player settings - due to previous attempts with the Samsung Wireless Adapter (which I found out the hard way -does not work with the 2500). Once I reset the player - it connected to the network and now I am playing Groundhog Day. The sound is off ever so slightly. Pic quality is fair (not the as good as a normal DVD). It does fills up the full screen on my Samsung 52inch - so that's good. I tried Silverado - but sound was way off and only picked up half the conversation. I will have to play around with that.

Anyway - for anyone who is thinking about hooking up Netflix to the 2500 and you don't have a wired router or wired network connection next to your TV - this works. The Powerline adapter acts as a bridge through the powerlines in the house to my Comcast modem/wireless router. You plug in one adapter at the TV and hook it up to the BD-P2500. You plug the other adapter in to the router like you would your PC. Load the software (which really only shows me they are connected). Then follow the connection set up instuctions. Luckily I did not have to mess with any of the advance network settings. It just connected automatically. The player gives you the code to enter in the netflix website from your PC. Then Netflix on PC says it's connecting. By the time I got back to the TV - my queue was on the screen. The queue even updated and synched up without having to reboot the player. The movie list is pretty limitted - but at least it's another option - and is free if you already have Netflix. I am a little concerned about surges - since you plug this directly into the wall - but - hey - it works. I wanted Netflix to hook up to my BD-P2500 - and I got it now. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks, Ill give it a try. I have to admit I am close to wit's end with this player. I know other players have issues, but these problems seem to arise every three or four months. When it is functioning properly I love it, but---

These adapters are a bit expensive, about $130. If you have a Directv account (or have a friend with one) you can pick up a pair of powerline network adapters for about $70. They are Turbo 85s from Turbo Technologies. I'm using them with my 2500 and PS3 to stream Netflix HD from my Verizon FIOS router.

Took about two weeks (it was during Christmas so it might not take that long normally). I got it back Wednesday and every DVD and BD it had trouble with before plays fine now. It even seems to be a little quieter. I put a notebook cooler (Antec) under it to help pull heat away so hopefully I can avoid any heat related issues. I had it for almost a year before any problems and the picture quality was so good I decided the $85.00 was worth it instead of buying another player for more money. We'll see if it was worth it in the long run. The lack of firmware updates is really annoying though.

So are you sure it was the drive that was failing? I went and looked back in the thread and saw some folks who'd stocked up on parts for their 2550s, and one of the things I found was a drive on ebay for $23. As my 2550 is out of warranty, I was considering just dropping the cash to see if that's the issue. Has anybody else gotten the "This Disc Can Not Be Played" error and replaced the drive? Or is it more likely a mainboard issue (which costs a bit more)?

In addition to my earlier problem(see post 6100), I was troubleshooting to determine why I cannot get audio with the 2500. I hooked it up to another receiver (newer Pioneer model) and it played the audio(still no video or audio menu). I then switched HDMI inputs on the Denon 3806 I usually use and it still would only play video and no audio. I took the sat box with HDMI and switched its input on the Denon and it played both video and audio. I switched HDMI cables and got the same results. My 2500 has April '09 firmware and Samsung states it is all updated. Service call?

Based on (lots) of previous posts, the actual BD-ROM drive is probably the highest failure hardware item/assembly in this unit. Your error message could very well indicate a failed drive. If you really like the player (as I do), and don't mind risking a few more bucks, I would pick-up another drive (I did). YMMV.

That's just what I decided to do. I figured it was worth a risk of $23 to see if I could repair the player. When I took it apart last night it looked like the big NEC chip along the bottom of the drive may have overheated as the words were barely legible (and I mean barely). Of course that also could be because that's where the thermal pad was making contact?

Anyway, here's hoping that the drive was the issue. If it turns out to be so, I'm definitely going to invest in a laptop cooler to make sure it doesn't happen again. That and maybe another drive as insurance...

Where did you buy the Drive? I need one and haven't had any luck locating a drive for my BD-P2550.

Used the information found in this post. Searched ebay and found the part. Ordered last night, it shipped today and should be here Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes...

Wow, wierd coincidence. A year to the day since the above quoted post and I finally rented and watched Band of Brothers and experienced the same thing, although I'm connected through HDMI. Have been running firmware v2.4 as it plays everything I've purchaced/rented including my AVCHD discs.

Upgrading to 2.5 not only didn't solve the problem, but stoped playback of my AVCHD discs (that play fine in my Sony S350). So I went here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...6#post16039436 and downloaded v2.6 (that was briefly available from Samsung and then pulled, anyone know why? And thanks to wobbegong for hosting the files), burned a disc and tried that. Bonus View Audio now works with Band of Brothers, but still no luck with AVCHD. I've noticed no other problems in running v2.6 other than no AVCHD support.

C'mon Samsung! Get your act together and provide a firmware update that makes everything work like it's supposed to! Sony can do it, why not you?

Samsung USA and Europe today (Jan 20th) posted a new firmware 2.6 for the BD-1500.
May be the rumored update 2.6 for the BD-P2500 / 2550 will also arrive very soon...

If not, I'm going Oppo. I'll never buy a Samsung again!

An odd thing happen to me. I was trying to watch Smokin Aces 2, the player was attempting to download the previews off the net. I've never seen that before. I couldn't bypass it, it was just stuck. After five minutes I gave up and powered it again. Same thing.
So what I did, first erase the internal memory and then unhooked the internet from the machine. And it worked, went straight to menu.
I'm on fw 2.6, hope this helps those of you who might get stuck on this movie, which was great.

I think trying to watch Smokin Aces 2 was your first mistake

Some studios check your BD-Live connection and attempt to download additional content before you get to the menu. Very annoying. No permission asked (or they disguise it by telling you it's an "update"). I have disabled BD-Live on my players to avoid it, rarely use BD-Live anyway.

If you disable BD-Live will you still have the ability to stream NetFlix?

Yes, NetFlix streaming will work just fine with BD-Live disabled. This is how mine is currently setup. The two features/settings have no bearing on each other.
