Precisely why I disabled bd-live, studios abusing it like this. And calling it "updates" to make you think it's necessary? Arg! Not that this has anything to do with the movie not playing, just my 2 cents...

Anyone think we may get Hulu now that Samsung will be offering it on all their newer players and tvs ("Hulu Plus", a paid subscription servide)?

Is disabling that a function of the Samsung player?

Yes. Setup --> Network Setup --> BD-Live....

I also turn off BD-Live so I don't get the 'Netfix keys hacked' message.

Heck I just caught up to this post! Thanks. Are you telling me that my player telling me "no updates available all good" is not correct? That's pretty lame! I'll check the website. How do I update with downloaded drivers?

I swapped discs at the store but same issues.

I turned off the BD Live thing thanks. Disc still wont play.

I just tried this. After a few seconds of unscrewing my first screw, the screw head disintegrated and fell off. I guess my 2550 is going in the trash. Never buying another Sadsung product.

Actually, if anyone wants to buy my 2550 for parts, just PM me. (I posted above that I tried the tuner screw fix and the screw disintegrated). I'll cut you a deal. It was working just fine except for the freezing.

On my second unit I've been having the heat issue for as long as I've owed it. Finally got fed up, pulled the main board. Found the two foam pads positioned pretty much directly under the ICs. Removed them and the unit has been working fine since. Even left it on overnight and it still played. Still have the cover off but I've never had that much luck before.

I assume the foam pads were to act as heatsinks, but they did a lousy job of it. Might look for some "real" heat sinks and rotozip out the bottom to accommodate them. But I did pick up a Sony BX37 for $60 on ebay so this one might get shuffled to the closet for a while.

My guess is the "cover off" is helping a lot. I would still find some way to draw the heat away from those ICs so they don't age rapidly (or put a fan behind the unit).

I was still having issue with the cover off, been that way for months. Once I removed the foam pads, no issues. Is this truly the proper placement for those? Seems really stupid, foam does not transfer heat well.

I may try replacing the cover and see what happens...

That 'foam' is a special kind of heat conductor. Based on other posts, my guess is they either didn't use the proper adhesive or they weren't properly mounted (on some units), but either way you need to expel the heat from those couple of chips.

The Samsung is now in a bedroom without Ethernet. What is the best way to get WiFi to this unit? Can you hook up a USB WiFi to the rear USB port on the 2500 or do I need one of those expensive WiFi to Ethernet bridges?

You can either do a "bridge" (I converted an old Wi-Fi Router to a bridge with DD-WRT) or something like a power over ethernet adapter. Basically, there was no custom/dedicated Wi-Fi adapter for this model (which are overpriced anyway).

It's cheaper to crawl around in the attic if you have access to your attic and put in cat 5e cable or (cat 6) and use one of these hubs/switches:

I don't know about that. I did a wireless bridge (converting an old Linksys WRT54G using DD-WRT) as well. You can get compatible routers these days for $25 and get DD-WRT up and running on it within an hour. Another 15 minutes of configuration and you're good to go.

These work great. I use them at home to connect my Sammy and PS3 to my network. They are mostly plug and play with minimal or no setup required.

GUYS!! The amount of pressure needed to tune the screws is less than say "cleaning your eardrums with a q-tip"-THAT MUCH WHICH IS VERY LOW AND USE THE TINY TUNER SCREWDRIVERS.You can find them at Radioshack .

2 years and my playing wont freeze for nothing even does an increadible job of reading smudgy discs better than my 2010 sony dvd player/recorder.

Well, we are getting a new TV for the bedroom, and I think I'll change the 2550 to bedroom duty. Which of these players (~200) would be the best replacement for the 2550:

Panasonic BD85K
Sony S570
LG BD570

Picture quality is the main feature, but speed, reliability, and features are also important.

I bought a Sony 370 to possible replace my 2550. It's FAST! Lots of extras too. But I see from various reports that the 2550 is still tops with Netfix and DVDs playback.

The truth is none of those players really match up to the 2550. If you want comparable video quality, you'll have to spend more $$ (like the Oppo), but then you won't have Netfilx.

Thanks. I decided to get a Sony S570 and people on here are right. The Sony is blazing fast and a lot more responsive to commands (e.g. FF, Rewind, Chapter, etc.). Blu-Ray quality is as good if not better. The 2550 still trumps in the DVD upconvert area but the Sony isn't bad. I wish there was an affordable HQV or Anchor Bay player that had Netflix, Pandora, etc.

That's a coincidence. Just last night I was thinking that it was time to get rid of the 2550 for precisely those reasons.

Over the time I've had the unit, the lack of response to transport controls and the fact it has to slowly churn through menus when all you want to do is go into the player settings and adjust the PQ has worn on my nerves.

I'm on the fence about buying another player or just waiting for the next Oppo to be released.

Support for this unit is over beyond a major release incompatibility.

That's true for many DVD players. Buy a pre-programmed universal remote and select Samsung Blu-Ray for the device.

Right the universal is no prob but doesnt the P2550 have a play button on the front panel? Shouldnt that start the movie?
