Samsung BD-2550/BD-P2500 Master Thread - Page 227

Has Samsung pushed 2.7 via the net?
I updated to firmware 2.7 via USB last night and did a quick test with the Alien Anthology.

Load times are a little faster and MUTHUR mode works. It's very cool actually: just select tags during the films, put in disc 5, select MUTHUR mode and access your tags.

Has anyone been able to play Twilight Eclipse on the 2500 yet? I have had no luck at all with either 2.6 or 2.7 firmware. The movie will start to load and go to the Summit Entertainment screen, but freezes after that at a black screen when it should be going to the menu.
I am about fed up with Samsung. Soon to be in the market for a new player.

Here's a weird problem on my 2550. V for Vendetta "BonusView" is stuck on. Pressing the bonusview button just gives me a disabled icon; same when trying to disable it from the info menu. Anyone have this problem?

To clarify, the actual video is up, not just the bonusview icon that all of my google-fu is turning up.
Hey jw,
If you mean that the bonus view crap comes up while the movie is playing even though its turned off in the menu.....try turning the control "on" so it matches what it's doing. Then play the movie/disc a bit. Then go back to the menu and turn it off. Sometimes that works. Its a java thing.

I purchased this player a long time ago and always had it connected via ethernet, but our family has a new Internet provider now and the cable modem is no longer in my room, so I need a way to connect this player wirelessly if possible.

I found this adapter:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-WIS09A.../dp/B0021LA1BE

However, Samsung's technical support and customer relations both could not tell me for sure whether it was compatible or not. Based on this and other interactions with them, I will never buy Samsung again.

But anyway, does anyone know if that adapter is compatible? I almost feel like I should just buy a Roku or AppleTV given the cost of the adapter. As a lark I asked Samsung if they would send me a free adapter, which they replied no to.

Any other ideas?
The short answer is: no Samsung adaptors work with this player (that started with the next model cycle). Your options are:

1) Use a wireless bridge (search this thread for my posts on convering a router using DD-WRT)
2) Run a long Ethernet cable

I've used #1 for 2 years without issue.

I've been using powerline adapters for my network connections to my 2500 and PS3. Here is a Link. Check it out.

I hate to answer my own question after you all provided such helpful replies. However, I found a solution that had been staring me in the face for a long time. I have an Airport Express, and I swear I had read somewhere it could only be used for one function at a time, and right now I have it connected to a set of speakers. Just to try it, I plugged the Ethernet cord from the blu ray player into it, and it worked with absolutely no set up and my streaming to my speakers through the AE still works too. The Airport Express is a pretty amazing little device. I was looking for a way to fix this without spending money and found it.

Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions.

Eclipse plays fine on fw 2.7. This was a blockbuster rental, not sure if it is different than purchased blu-rays as some are. It loaded rather fast, no issues at all.
Whenever I have issues playing a disc, I either allow or prohibit the blu-ray live option and that change usually solves this type of issues. Hope that helps.

The disc I am trying to play is the Special Edition combo disc. I just tried playing it again with the player now disconnected from the network. Still no luck. A friend of mine also has this same player. It would not play on his either. It will, however, play with no problems on a Sony and on the PS3.
When I contacted Samsung they told me that I may have to wait up to a month for a new firmware release to solve the issue. Seeing as how 2.7 was just released, I am doubtful that a new one will be released that soon.

The blu-ray version of Eclipse that I played was the "Movie Only Edition"
I guess that would explain it. Also, forget disconnecting from the internet.
Go to setting/network and play around with the live option. Try prohibit, allow, or that 3rd option they had. Allow at least two minutes to see if progress is made. For some reason, every time I get stuck on playing a title. I go back to the menu, change these settings and the title plays. Worked on every title I had problems with so far.

Thanks for the help. I just got finished playing around with all that but still can't play it. I wonder if it could be the disc, but it is playing fine on the PS3. This is the first time I've ever had an issue with a blu-ray not wanting to play on the 2500. Even Avatar played flawlessly for me on release day.
Maybe someone else will weigh in and say if they've had a problem with Eclipse or not. Because if it's a lot of people having the same problem then I'm sure there will be a firmware update. But, if it's just me, then I'm not sure...

I just received my second three disc blu-ray Prince of Persia from Amazon. This new disc does the same video freeze / audio sync issues at the exact moments of the first disc. I wish I had access to more versions of this to test out.

Anyone still having issues with Prince of Persia after the 2.7 firmware update?
I'm still on 2.6 but have been having a major issue with my 2550. I have a Netgear 3700 wireless router and if I plug the ethernet cable from it into my 2550 the other wired devices lose connection. I thought it might be a problem with the router so I replaced it (twice) and I even tried limiting the number of wired connections on it but it doesn't matter, if the 2550 is plugged in all other devices lose the ability to get an ip address from the router. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of anything similar?

Same problem I described w/my 2550 a while back but with a Belkin router. No problem when the 2550 is powered on but I lose all internet access w/the 2550 connected and powered off. Unplug the 2550 from the router when the power is off and the internet comes back.

Also have a Sony 350 that DOESN'T exibit the same behavior. No problem with the Sony at all. Definately has to be a problem w/the 2550 in my opinion. I've called and e-mailed Samsung support but they blame the router. Told them I don't have the same problem w/the Sony or anything else I have connected to the router. They still blamed the router.

I had hoped 2.7 might fix this problem but did not. Anyone have any suggestions? Samsung is absolutely no help...

Disconnect it from the internet completely. Whatcha gonna miss, BD-Live? It's a joke. Anything on there you can get on the internet anyway. Mine took 5 minutes to load Spartacus b4 I unplugged the ethernet, now it's fine.

You're assuming I use and have BD-Live enabled. I don't and have it disabled in the menu. It is a joke. I do use the ethernet however for streaming Netflix. It works great for me, even the SD stuff looks good w/HQV and the HD titles look fantastic.

Doesn't solve the problem of losing my internet connection with the player off. You would think it would be the other way around. My workaround is to just unplug it when the player is off. A pain in the a** , but I'm not going to buy another player. Already have two...

Have had no problem with a Trendnet wap/router. My 2550 is connected via ethernet.

I used the USB method and it's been updating for more than an hour. How did you make out?

I tried the Netflix when I 1st got the player, and I thought it looked like crap. If the streaming quality ever looks as good as blu(higher resolution tv sets) maybe that will end physical media. I use an Apple Time Capsule BTW...

Get a faster internet connection speed. Some Netflix movies are in HD now. And it's not half bad. Just some moire type compression pixel blockification on similar color scenes, like skies.

Tonight I upgraded my BD-P2550 to 2.7 via CD. While the upgrade process seemed to work, the player hasn't worked properly since its post-upgrade shutdown.

When I turn it on, the front display says "LOAD" but the player just sits there and the TV doesn't receive a signal.

I tried holding the skip forward button on the player but nothing happens. I spoke with Samsung and they told me to hold the power button on the remote for 30 seconds. No dice, so they said that I'm going to have to take it in for servicing.

Has this happened to anybody else?

I was actually referring to the HD stuff. My connection is 55mbps down/8mbps up. I know of no one w/ a faster connection than I have, but maybe I'll give Netflix another try...

Wow. That is extremely fast. Who is your provider? The fastest I can get here is Baja Broadband -- 10 down/1 up -- and it is cable so it can be spotty.

Try this one for quality: http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Ye...?trkid=2430625

While the 2550 streaming Netflix HD content is not true HD, it is pretty good. If you find the 2550 unacceptable don't even bother with other players, the Sony 370 Netflix looks like crap compared to the 2550.

I just replaced my bedroom 2550 with a Seagate media player, and the Netflix streaming is OK, but still not the same quality of the Samsung. Unfortunately my bedroom player got hit with the dreaded "Loading" issue. Don't know if it's worth the bother to replace the Blu ray drive, I guess that is where the problem stems from. I never use it to play disks , only to watch Netflix, wish there was a way to bypass the drive and us it only for streaming. My 2550 in my main set up is still gong strong, knock on wood....

You hit the nail on the head: I don't think a lot of folks realize just how good the video quality on this player is (it got me to upgrade my projector to HD).

As for your loading problem, I have a feeling it's NOT the BD drive; otherwise I would suggest replacing the drive only (fairly easy to do).

I'm using an Onkyo TX-SR706 as my receiver, Samsung LN52A650 as my tv and my blu ray player is Samsung BD-2550. I can toggle between Normal and Low when I watch cable or playing xbox but when i switch to the 2550 this feature is greyed out on "Normal". Is there a setting I can enable or disable in the 2550 that will allow me to take control of this feature on my tv

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
