Samsung BD-2550/BD-P2500 Master Thread - Page 231

The only player that has 5.1 sound is the PS3, everyone else gets exactly what the 2550 gets---STEREO .

I only run my audio through my receivers and it sounds fine when processed through one of the various sound field modes. Netflix is surprisingly good through my Onlyo 807 using audyssey, and my 2550 in my bedroom sounds pretty good running through my older Kenwood receiver using one of the surround modes.

I'm using a Netgear 3700 router with standard cat5e cabling.

I agree that the audio sounds good when processed through a surround sound format mode on a good AVR. However, I would still like to be able to get 5.1 surround sound and 1080p video from Netflix. As you say the PS3 is the only blu-ray player that I know of that offers this. I am doubtful Samsung will ever offer it given the companies well deserved reputation of not upgrading its products. They make good products but then seem to abandon the consumer who bought them. It's a shame since my BD-P2550 with its Reon Video Processor does produce an outstanding image.

You can get surround sound for many movies using the Pro Logic II decoder on your receiver (as long as it was encoded on the original stereo soundtrack for the DVD).

Not all Netflix streaming titles have surround anyway. In fact, most of them DON'T.

I have a BD2550 and want to go wireless . Will the Samsung Linkstick USB LAN adapter work? My closest ethernet connection is 50 ft away.
There are better and cheaper options.

I've been using powerline adapters to network my 2500 and my PS3. They work great. Here is an Amazon LINK.

My father-in-law uses a Linksys Powerline Adapter that does a great job connecting his Samsung BD-P2550 to the internet.

However, this product is a much better price and Monoprice is a great company.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I purchased a Netgear 4 port Powerline Adapter and it performs nicely. I was able to upgrade the firmware on my Samsung Blu-Ray player via the internet. I was unable to do this with a cd or flash drive. I can now stream Netflix and Pandora. I am happy!!

Anyone have issues with Inception? I lost audio 3-4 times during playback. Had to rewind and got sync back.

I believe the answer is no, that will only work with specific subsequent Samsung models, not this one. I use a Linksys WGA600N ethernet to Wi-Fi adapter with my ZyXEL wireless router and it has worked great for years now. I actually have 4 of the adapters around the house and just never have any downtime caused by the adapter. Since I am not a network guy by any stretch, I wanted something easy to install and once I found this device and knew I could set it up easily, I haven't looked back.

Get a repeater-router from NewEgg such as the Encore ENHWI-2AN3 circa $25.00.

Has anyone tried playing the Tom Petty "Damn the Torpedoes" blu-ray on this player? It plays fine on my Oppo player, but stops at the menu on the Samsung.

The latest firmware update cured the "Salt" blue progression bar hanging at 80% issue for me!

It also cured the annoying auto-ON bonusview bug in "Book of Eli" and "V for Vendetta".

All while not bricking the player!

Is FW 2.7 is the still the latest? Thanks.
Yes, it's the 2.7 update, released last december. I got it on the Canadian support website and installed it by USB.

Salt got 2 or 3 minor audio dropouts and completely hung at one time. A few seconds rewinding made the playback resume. It's likely caused by the seamless branching of the 3 movies versions on the disc.

I'll hang on this player a while more, but I'm waiting for a sub 300$ player from Oppo to leave!

I've got the latest updates installed but Salt still gets stuck at 80% loading. Anyone have any other ideas for getting it to play? I hate to give up on this player, it's done great for every other disc I've asked it to play. The Oppo 93 looks really nice but I can't see coughing up $500 for that right now. My wife would absolutely crucify me.

Ok, it's finally running. I manually downloaded and updated the firmware to the Dec update using USB again. The disc is at least working now. I thought that I had the 2.7 update (downloaded via net conn) but apparently I didn't.

Yes I posted back a while ago, and I have FW 2.7, nothing I can do will fix it. The most annoying time for me is at the train crashing into the car as they enter the dream. I get a major audio drop out there and I have to pause and then play to re-sync it, sucks hope 2.8 fixes it maybe .

Anyone having trouble with the latest Disney titles? Neither "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" or "Tangled" will play. Both Netflix rentals.

All I get is the stupid castle animation playing endlessly. The player claims to have the latest firmware.

I ended up playing "Apprentice" on my computer, but I'll be damned if I'm going to do that every single time I get a new Disney title. I'd connect the laptop to the TV, but it refuses to play the movie audio anywhere but the laptop speakers.

This is very frustrating. I'm sick of perfectly good equipment being broken by standards changing every 5 minutes. I just want to play the freaking movie.

Any suggestions?

What firmware version do you have? Samsung no longer supports this player with online updates! If you try to update via an internet you will just get a message stating that you have the latest update. You need to Samsung's website and download the latest update.

I contacted Samsung and they're sending me a disc.

I'd download it myself, but I just bought a new laptop and I don't yet have Roxio, Nero or anything else installed that can burn an ISO.

I'm not sure why they can't do a push with the update. It's not like downloading the ISO vs. a network update saves them any real bandwidth. Further, not allowing that method is only going to frustrate people who don't know to go to the website for an update, especially when the player tells them no update is available.

I'm usually pretty up on this stuff, so if I'm wondering what's going on, how many average users are going to simply opt never to buy another Samsung product again if they don't know what to do?

At the very least, it ought to at least direct people to the website so they know their might be an update that isn't available directly through the player. If that's too much to ask, perhaps Samsung deserves to lose customers.

I'm pretty frustrated at their lack of current FW support for the latest BRs and decided to relegate my 2500 to my secondary setup and go with an Oppo BDP-93.

While the 93 is a bit costlier, I purchased the 2500 fairly close to when it was first rolled out, so it was no cheapie either and the 93 offers a heck of a lot more for the money as well as Oppo's pretty stellar track record on their products and support for them... -TD

With which version on it? I've never heard of Samsung sending someone a disc in lieu of download.

I think this player is a bit slow on the load time. I takes ~40 sec to load an HD stream (24 season 8, episode 23) on the player, which only takes ~7 sec on my computer. From conversations with I have had with Netflix support, I know that the player is the rate limiting factor in my system. My Comcast download speed on the wired connection I am using is ~60 Mb/sec. I posted a similar comment somewhere else and someone responded that their load time on a Panasonic player loaded an HD stream much faster. Is my load speed normal for the BDP2500/2550?

That seems too slow. I'll try to check mine tomorrow with the same episode. I've never had anything take that long to load - and I'm wireless with 12 Mb/sec.

I don't know. The guy didn't say.

He didn't even bring up downloading.
